“Information we have is Dwyer,” Nelson said.
“Curtis Dwyer?” I said. “I thought he was locked up?”
“He is, we think this is his kid, Dennis trying to run things.”
“Dennis Dwyer? I thought he was some high rolling attorney, threatening small businesses with handicap access lawsuits.”
“Yeah, among other things.”
I pondered that for a long moment then said, “In a way, you seem to have painted an even grimmer picture than the one I had. But if this is a Dwyer operation, why is Tubby Gustafson involved?”
“One of many questions,” Nelson said. “Did Tubby suggest any sort of time frame to you?”
“Not in so many words, but he sort of left me with the thought that sooner rather than later would be a good idea.”
“Let’s just say we raid the place, shut it down, arrest Ozzie and whatever scumbags we can get there. What sort of position would that put you in?”
“Me?” I had to think for a moment. “Tubby might be pissed off, maybe, but as long as they don’t actually see me there, I’ll be okay. It’s still not making sense, if it’s a Dwyer operation, you’d think Tubby would jump at the chance to see the thing shut down.”
Nelson drummed his index finger on the arm of the chair. “You know, I’m thinking we can do a couple of things. Bring some equipment out, park it there, make it look like street repair. That’ll cut down on the immediate traffic, then we can set up a post to film activity.” Nelson had his eyes raised, clearly thinking. “Let me check out a couple of things, not the least is why we don’t have this place listed to Tubby. I’ll keep you posted. You willing to lend a hand if we need it?”
“Me?” I said. “Yeah, sure, I guess. I just don’t want to see anything happening to this upstanding citizen, Daisy, she’s my main concern.”
“Let me get on this, I got some ideas,” Nelson said, but didn’t elaborate.

Just in case you missed it I’d like to offer you two FREE Dev Haskell tales.
Novella #1; Twinkle Toes is the fast-paced search for an exotic dancer Dev knew in high school as his pink-haired prom date, ‘Twink’. Twink hasn’t been seen since she went to a photoshoot for a sleazy car dealership and Dev sets out to find her.
Novella #2; Dollhouse when Dev’s very close friend Sallie decides to conduct an undercover investigation of the Dollhouse, Dev pitches an uncharacteristic hissy-fit. Sallie’s a big girl, but Dev could be right about this one. The Dollhouse is an adult entertainment establishment with connections to local mob boss Tubby Gustafson.
