“Where do you live?” He pretended to ignore her worry about work, but it was noted in his mind. He would never ignore anything she told him.

“I’m staying with a friend from school until I can find a place of my own.”

“Would you consider moving in with me during your therapy?” His eyes were locked on hers. He wanted to see her reaction to his words.

Jessica’s lips curled up. “If you feel it is for the best, I’ll move in with you.”

Richard stood up and looked down at her. “I don’t feel it is for the best. I know it is. You still seem to think this is a game: that you can control me or tempt me. I’ll show you that you can’t.”

Jessica nodded at him. A cold chill went down her spine, but at the same time she felt excited.

“How quickly can you be moved in?”

“Umm – whenever it’s convenient for you.”

Richard noticed her manner changing. She was suddenly becoming unsure of herself. It was already working.

“You’re my last patient of the day. I don’t want to let you out of my sight. So the answer is: there is no time like the present.”

“Of course. I’ll call her and warn her I’m coming to collect my things.”

“That would be best.” Richard went back to his desk and worked on several things he needed to finish before they could leave. He listened to her talking to her friend. Jessica lied to her, telling her she found an apartment she could afford.

After that, he ignored her completely. She needed to learn she couldn’t always be the center of attention.

Later, he would give her so much attention she would wish he would ignore her.

  Chapter 3 – Promises

Scott parked in front of the motel and looked over at Brianna. “Are you sure about this?”

  “Yes, I really am.”

  “Well, I’m not.”

“I don’t want my first time to be on my wedding night.” Her eyes widened, imagining it.

“Our wedding night,” he corrected her.

“Yes, of course,” she answered dismissing his words.

“It really is my wedding too.”

“I know that. And I’m happy for you. You’re getting a great girl,” she teased him. “However, you have – done ‘it’ before. I haven’t. That’s the difference.”

“We could wait the couple of days – until we’re married.”

Brianna sighed loudly. It was clear Scott didn’t want to do this, and he didn’t understand. “It’s just that I don’t want to die on my wedding day.”

“So you want me to kill you beforehand?” Scott’s fingers went back to the key to turn on the ignition.

“No.” Brianna laid her hand on his elbow. “You don’t understand, and I’m not good at explaining it.”

Scott removed his hand and shifted in his seat, so he was looking at Brianna. “Then tell me – because I don’t get this.”

Brianna took a deep breath and thought how she should word this. “You remember how scared you were to take the bar exam? I had to drive you there because you were so nervous.”

“Yes, I remember. It was only a couple of months ago.”

“You were scared, but you didn’t need to be. Still, it was hard for you to get out of the car.”

“I was worried you would ruin my car. You had only had your license for a week.” Scott smiled at her. He loved to tease her.

“That’s beside the point. The point is you were worried, then you took the test, and everything was okay. You didn’t need to be scared and in the back of your head you knew that, but still you were. The best thing for you was getting it over with.”

“So you want to get making love with me over with?”

“Yes, so I can enjoy our wedding day. I don’t want to spend the happiest day of my life worrying about what might happen that night. I want to promise myself to you with a genuine smile on my face. I want us to dance together and to enjoy every moment we can. It should be the best day of our lives. Afterwards, when you take me in your arms, I want to be relaxed and able to enjoy our special night.”

Scott’s forehead wrinkled. “You do have a point. Nevertheless, it seems odd to do this a few days before the wedding.”

“I trust you to make an honest woman out of me.” Brianna wasn’t worried about him backing out.

“Of course, I would. I’ve wanted to marry you for so long. I honestly don’t want to have to explain to anyone what we were doing at a motel. Could you imagine that phone call to the police? I would have to explain what I was doing at a motel with a woman who wasn’t my wife and why she died of a heart attack and was no longer a virgin.” His fingers returned to the key.

Again Brianna reached out to him. “I promise I won’t die.”

“And if you do?” Scott hated that he was capable of hurting her.

“I’m not going to. See, this is why I want to get it over with.” Brianna opened the car door and got out. She walked over to the office to get a room, but Scott caught up to her before she could go in.

“I feel like I’m being blackmailed,” he whispered into her ear.

“Blackmailed into having sex with the woman you love so much you want to spend the rest of your life with her? I doubt anyone will pity you.”

Scott rolled his eyes and opened the door for her. They had driven two hours away from home to find a place where they hoped no one would recognize them.

Scott did the talking, checking them into a room for the night as Mrs. and Mr. Green.

Brianna stood next to him, trying to act like they were already married. She figured the man handing Scott the key wouldn’t care, but still she did have a twinge of guilt for being here.

Once Scott had the key, he turned back to Brianna. “I’ll get our bags out of the car. You can go to our room and freshen up.” He handed her the key.

Brianna nodded at him. “Thank you, Scott.”

He had to smirk because she sounded like a sweet little housewife, the complete opposite of the woman who had read him the riot act in the car.

Scott got their bags. They each had their own. His car was full of their things. They had moved out of their apartment today. That paragraph of their lives was over, and now the real story was about to begin.

Brianna was sitting on the bed, waiting for him. She looked scared.

Their eyes locked. “May I, please, have my bag? I’d like to change – before we start.”

Scott handed her the bag, thinking how brave she was. He loved her with his whole heart. He was hoping she would back out. If anything truly did happen while they were making love, he wanted her to at least be his wife.

He sat down where Brianna had just been. Terrible thoughts went through his head. He knew she wasn’t supposed to do any type of physical activities. Sex was very physical.

They had gotten very close the last couple of years. They kissed a lot; there was no part of her body he hadn’t touched. They often showered together, and the feeling of her hand wrapped around his penis was a very familiar one.

Brianna and Scott often shared a bed, his. Cathy had been a very bad chaperon lately. She was now a registered nurse. She worked in the same ward as his best friend, Chandler Bentley. Everyone had been surprised when he spoken up, choosing Cathy to work with him in his ward. The two of them definitely didn’t get along.

Apparently, they were a good team at work. However, the second they weren’t wearing white, things got out of control. On Saturday, the two of them had to walk down the aisle together. Cathy was Brianna’s maid of honor, and Chandler was his best man. Hopefully, they wouldn’t scratch each other’s eyes out on the way to the altar.

The bathroom door opened, and Brianna appeared in a silky nightgown, which clung, to her body, allowing him to see every curve.

His penis was flooding with blood. Damn it. All hope of stopping this madness was crashing at his feet.

He stood up and grabbed his bag. “I guess I’ll change into my pajamas too.”

Unfortunately, he slept in his boxers and T-shirt. The collar of the T-shirt was frayed. It hadn’t mattered up until now. Even when Brianna slept with him in his bed, he hadn’t thought twice about it, but she had never showed up in a negligee before.

Scott washed his face and looked at himself in the mirror. His heart was pounding in his chest. If this didn’t work out, he would be left all alone. After so many years, he couldn’t bear to be without Brianna. She was his soul mate. Was this worth the risk?

Noble thoughts of not risking her life were easy to make when she was in the other room. Standing in front of her and seeing the outline of her breasts against the silk of her nightgown, would make it impossible for him to stay so noble.

He desired her, in every way a man could desire a woman: as a friend, a partner for life and as a bed companion.

Scott changed into his pajamas and looked at himself in the mirror again. He certainly wasn’t up to snuff with the goddess he had just seen. He took off his T-shirt and looked at his chest. Scott pictured Brianna’s head resting against his chest, and his right hand moved to cover his heart.

He sighed; there they were again, his feelings of protection for Brianna. He loved her so much.

Scott went in the bedroom and saw her looking out of the window. He hoped no other man could see her dressed up like this. This was only for his eyes.

  “I’m finished, darling.”

She turned around and smiled at him. Once again, she felt scared.

Scott went to her and ran his fingertips along her jaw. “You look so uncertain.”

Brianna closed her eyes. “Believe me I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid like every woman is before her first time.” She opened her eyes and looked at him.

“I hate that you’re afraid of me. I wish things were different. It doesn’t make sense for it to hurt you. You’re so precious.”

Brianna shifted her weight to her other foot and narrowed her eyes at him, giving him what he called ‘the look’. “You’re backing out again, aren’t you?”

“No, I’m not. I was just feeling sorry for you.” That was something he knew she hated. His teasing would get her mind off of the pain she would soon be feeling.

He kissed her before she could say something.

Scott pulled away from Brianna. “I love you.”

“You do?” She beamed up at him.

  “Would I marry you if I didn’t?”

“I don’t know.” Brianna pulled away from him and walked over to the bed. She grabbed the comforter and pulled it back, so she could sit down on the bed. “I’m a rich man’s daughter. Perhaps you’re more interested in my father’s money than in me.”

“Perhaps you need to go over my knees before we make love.” Scott sat down next to her and laid his hand on her back. He was pushing a little like he would if he were really going to spank her.

“No, Scott. I was just teasing you.” Brianna pushed back against his hand, which made her breasts push up.

Scott couldn’t look away. Brianna was packed up so beautifully. His left hand moved to her breasts as if a pull was guiding it to move, magnetically. He cupped his hand, feeling the soft fabric, which covered her soft breast.

Brianna realized he wasn’t going to spank her. She grinned a little because she thought she could use her body to get out of future spankings too. She laid her arms behind her on the bed and thrust her breasts up a little higher.

Scott moved his right hand and turned towards Brianna, pushing her down on the bed. “You look fabulous.”

Brianna moved her hands, so she could touch his chest. The muscles there had always fascinated her. He was ripped and so hard, her opposite. “I like how you look too. You’re so strong.”

“I try to stay this way, so I can carry you around when you’re sick.”

Brianna pursed her lips together. This wasn’t the moment to talk about that.

“Don’t make faces at me. You’re too pretty to do something like that. I know you don’t like to hear that you’re sometimes weak, and that you need help, but it is a fact of life. You should be thankful I’m the kind of man who plans ahead. Besides, I think you’re very healthy, but to be sure I think I should examine your entire body.”

“You want to play doctor with me?”

“Oh yes. First, I’ll examine your breasts, thoroughly, and then I’ll examine the rest of you.”

Brianna was feeling a little silly, and she wanted to tease him a little. “I think I may have twisted my ankle on the way in.” She wanted to throw him off course a little.

Scott raised an eyebrow. He sat back and lifted her foot off the floor. Her nightgown slithered up her raised leg, giving him a glimpse of the area between her legs. He cocked a smile at her. “You’re right. This is a very good place to start.” He kissed the inside of her ankle, slowly working his way up.

Brianna grabbed onto her nightgown and laid it over herself, so he couldn’t see her down there.

“Too late. I already saw you,” he goaded her.

“I was thinking we would take it slowly.”

Scott kissed the side of her knee. “I’m moving slowly.”

  “Yes, but the direction.”

  “I’m getting closer.”

“And I’m getting nervous,” Brianna confessed.

Scott was at a point where he didn’t wish to turn back. Brianna was right, she was just scared, and she needed to get it over with. He kissed the inside of her thigh. “I’ve always loved your legs.”

  “Really?”

“Since the first time I saw them, getting out of my car.”

“When was that?” Brianna asked, confused.

Scott stopped mid-thigh and looked at her. “It was our first date. We had fish. Don’t you remember that?”

“I remember. I just don’t remember my legs in particular.”

“Well, I do. It was the first time I really noticed them. It was when you were getting out of my car.”

“I remember the fish was good.” Brianna was hoping to throw him off course.

“Personally, I felt your legs getting out of my car were the highlight of the evening.”

“So you merely love me for my body?”

“Among other things.” Scott was grinning at Brianna’s feeble attempts to slow him down. The funny thing was this had been her idea, and she was the one who pushed to come here.

“I thought the fish was excellent.”

Scott grinned at her. This wasn’t the sort of conversation he had expected to have when they were about to make love for the first time.

He moved his knees up, and his face moved towards hers. He kissed her to stop whatever nonsense she might have said next. Slowly, he laid his body down on hers, testing to see if she could take his weight.

Brianna had to breathe deeply. Scott was so much bigger than she was. He was heavy, and it felt like he was squishing her.

Scott sighed, seeing that he was too heavy for her. He moved to the side.

Brianna slowly exhaled, hoping he wouldn’t notice. If she couldn’t sleep with him, then he wouldn’t be happy with her. Their marriage would be doomed. She feared he would lose interest in her and go and look for someone new, someone better, exactly like back then with Jodi.

If she couldn’t give him this, then he wouldn’t want her anymore.

“I just – have to get used to you. That’s all.” Brianna reached her arms up to him and wrapped her arms around him.

“Baby, there is more than one way to skin a cat. You don’t have to worry about anything.”

Brianna gave him a worried look.

“I’ll show you exactly what I mean when you’re ready for me.” Scott had to grin at how naïve she was.

Brianna gulped a little, determined to go through with this. “I’m ready,” she lied.

“No, you’re not. First, when you’re wet.”

  “Wet?”

“Yes. Wet with need. I’ve never let you get this far before. There is n
othing more attractive to a man than a woman who wants to be with him, desperately.”

“I don’t think I could – ever be like that.”

“You better be.” He kissed her behind her ear, while his left hand kneaded her breasts.

Brianna felt her back arch up. She wished she had more to offer him breast-wise.

“You’re so beautiful. I’m lucky to be the man you want to marry.” Scott was ready to go, but he knew Brianna needed more time. He stroked his hands over her body, fondling her breasts and letting his hands glide over her curves. He paid her compliments, telling her how beautiful she was and what her body was making his feel.

His fingers petted her clitoris, encircling it in slowly.

When he deemed her ready, he lifted her up and laid her on the bed the short way, so her feet were dangling over the edge.

She gave him a confused look. Secretly, she was glad he had the necessary knowledge to do this because she certainly didn’t.

Scott knelt down beside the bed and pulled Brianna’s body even closer. Her hands moved to cover herself again. He looked up into her eyes. “You don’t have to be shy with me.”

Reluctantly, she removed her hands and laid them over her head. She braced herself for the pain.

“Hush – It’s okay. If you say stop, I will. I trust you not to pretend to be brave. If it hurts you too much, you have to tell me. I’m depending on your honesty. If we can’t be honest with each other in the bedroom when we are alone, then what kind of marriage would we have?”

“I promise, Scott.” That was a hard promise to give because it broke a promise she had given to herself. She told herself she was going to go through with this no matter what she felt. If it took her life, then she would have given Scott all of her love before she left.

“Okay, now, I’m getting a little nervous again.” Scott’s greatest worry was she would pass away while he was making love to her. He didn’t want to be left alone in the world without her.

His body seemed to be completely ignorant about the battle going on in his head. It only wanted to thrust into her.

Scott looked into Brianna’s eyes. He saw fear, determination and trust. Loving her came with so much responsibility. Why was his body telling him this was so right when his mind was screaming at him not to risk this?
