inside me that wasn’t there before and I think I needed it to be whole again.” A dash of fear across the heart in his chest, what had he done. Another question and this one could not be answered by any living creature. He turned to her with a genuine smile and told her the truth.

“Let’s eat.” She smiled and shook her head.

“Doesn’t seem to matter if you are human male or non-human male. Food is your most important thought.” He smiled right back. But she was his most important thought.

  Anew

After about 12 hours of movies and fun food and laughter she was sleeping and his thoughts kept drifting as one of the hero’s smashed a villain in the face with his weapon. Some of the action in the movies appealed to him. Most times he was lost in the whole idea of such a thing and why they would spend so much time. Entertainment wasn’t something he totally understood as a lone being. He swam to occupy his time.

He didn’t want to bother her while she slept. She had cuddled up next to him and now was asleep on his shoulder. He turned off the movie and went to the regular T.V. The commercial thing about Sasquatch wasn’t funny to him. He had seen some in passing in his lifetime. They were a quiet creature. They hazed each other to keep entertained they are always moving, they never settle. Afraid the humans may harm them. The commercials maybe funny to humans but he found distaste in them. He lifted her head softly then picking her up before he was standing. He thought to wake her but didn’t want to wake her from the sleep she settled into.

He traveled down her short hallway to her bedroom. He laid her on the bed and covered her with a light blanket. He then took the seat next to her bed. He listening to hear breathing as his body began to rest. The soft sounds of her breathing lulled him in to a deep rest he didn’t realize he was in until he began to dream.

The soft white waves pushing against the black sand, the moon full in the pitch black sky. There were no stars this night which he knew was wrong. The sense wavered until it was gone. The voice he began to understand became louder and more complex as the words became a canopy of music and sound. At the plateau there was a crescendo then a break. The silence startled him. The sounds of the waves crashing against the beach the moment he looked to her. The moon shining brighter since he appeared there, the sky filling with twinkle lights one by one.

The moon blinked. Solin found himself on the floor near her bed his hand above him touching her. He stood quickly not removing his hand. He found his hand on her heart. He removed it as thoughts and questions plagued him once more, his dream forgotten panic setting into him as something unexpected happen.

Solin turned to see a beacon of light that was Winter laying in her bed. It was bright enough that use his glamour as a reaction. He didn’t know what was happening. It last a few moments then stopped as abruptly as it started. What had he done he thought. As he let his glamour fall he thought to wake her but seeing as she just used more energy he would let her rest awhile longer.

While he made his green eyed beauty breakfast, the question of him of he had used his powers while asleep worried him, had he done something that couldn’t be fixed. He called out her name as he plated up her tray. He filled a glass with juice and headed the short trip to her room. She put the tray at the foot of the bed. He touched her hand and called her name again. No reaction at all. He shook her lightly calling out her name during so. She didn’t move on her own, didn’t respond and there was no eye movement behind her eyelids. He checked her pulse and found it strong and vibrant. She was in a deeper sleep than he thought. So he sat back and ate her meal, calling out her name every now and then not getting a response.

Three hours later and no change, Solin started to worry. Her cell phone had made a jingle noise hours ago and he didn’t know how to answer it or even what to say if he did. She was in a magical coma and had to wait it out.

As the sun went down starting the ceasing of the day she still has no woken. He needed to commune with the sea. He had questions that needed to be answered. He made sure she was safe and left a glamour surrounding her with a shield of protection should anything happen. He took one last look and her and calculated his trip in time. He would be quick, not wanting to leave her alone and vulnerable. He was worried but not discouraged. She still had a pulse was still breathing. He knew she was alive for her heart still beat.

He closed her bedroom door glamoured himself so no human eyes would see. Once his feet hit the pavement he prayed he was a blur to anyone who may have seen him. He was on a mission and his heart was at stake. Soon he made it to the beach in minutes compared to their walks. He wasted no time running into the water calling to the sea when he touched the sand. He demanded the seas presence once he was in the water.

Yes my favorite, why do you come alone and filled with fright.

“That is just what I came to ask you?” If he had waited a moment more he would have screamed.

How am I to know why you swim alone? Where is your friend?

“She has been asleep for over two suns.” At that the sea was quiet, not only her voice but the waves had ceased, the birds stopped their calls. The sea began to shallow around him. She was pulling into herself and he didn’t understand this action. “Do you have an answer for me?” He could hear the anger lining his words. Never had he spoken to the sea in such a way.

  Does she live?

“Yes.” He wanted to scream but the sea wound rage back, she would kill him.

Do no fret if she lives. The swim the other night may have taxed out the energy she had.” Solin didn’t sound convinced.

“What can I do to wake her?” The sea released her hold on her power setting from the waves. The water began to return to tide when she spoke.

Let her rest. He felt the sea began to pull her magic away but before he could let her his dream came back like a lighting bolt.

“Before you go, I had a dream.” She covered him with love and joy as she wrapped him in her gentle chill. A nudge to continue, “The moon spoke to me.” There was a sharp change in power from the sea that had waves hitting each other in the halt of power. Solin hoped his glamoured held through the seas tantrum.

What did he say? A tone he had never heard from the sea replaced the worried one.

The sea settled once again. Solin checked the area for humans or others and found no one. After a moment he thought over the words that had been said to him. It was not about him but the message was meant for him. He knew this was about winter. The sea didn’t have any doubts she knew her nightly companion had something deep in his craters. But to speak to an earthly creature and not to her in a millennia wounded the sea greatly.

It is a message about Winter, he is granting her to you or you to her. Both, this was meant to be.

With that the presence of the sea was gone.

“What is meant to be? What will happen to her?” He sobbed softly and momentarily before calling out again. “How am I to help her?” The last words falling off his lips like a raindrop. The once bright sky was dark and cloudy. He swam to shore hoping he hadn’t been gone too long. He had to make sure she was okay. And he had to figure out the message. He also knew where to get help. But he couldn’t leave her in the human world. He had to take her with him. He needed a plan if she did not wake tomorrow he would have to figure out how to get her to the Otherland where he may be able to find answers. The only other place they would be safe.

He didn’t feel any better about thing when he got back to her apartment. He may have had a plan i
n place but getting things done will be tricky. He wanted to understand what was happening to his best friend. He wanted to tell her that she was his best friend, that he was happy, that he also felt whole. He slowly made his way up the stairs trying not to draw attention to himself. He was outside her door holding the knob when he heard voices. He glanced around to see no one then glamoured himself.

“No, she looked fine to me.” An accent he had never heard before, this male voice said to someone else.

“Well it’s not like her to miss a shift, call in or not. I’ll come by and check on her tomorrow. Maybe she is hung over.” The female’s voice was familiar from his side of the door but he couldn’t place it. He didn’t know any humans so placing her voice would not be easy until he seen her.

“Well I don’t know her to drink but that is a mighty deep sleep.” The male said to the female.

  “Yes I agree.”

“Um Miss,” Timidly he spoke to ask the woman. “Did you see the size of that pimple? No vocal response that Solin could hear. “I’ll see you out.” Solin hugged the wall on the left side of the door. He had glamoured himself, they wouldn’t see him but they would bump him if they didn’t see him. He was matter after all only glamoured to look like the hallway. Solin alone would treat the two of them to a quick death. His height, the green gold of his skin, his tusks, yes a quick death indeed.
