Dhark & Destined Page 8

by C C Dowling

Taking her mouth with mine, I let my tongue express everything that words can’t. Her nails dig into my shoulders, making me bleed. The pain’s a welcome distraction from the growing pressure deep beneath my belly. I clench, curse, anything to keep from focusing on how good she feels, how complete I feel inside her.

“Fuck, Creed!” Dhru’s grip tightens, the pain an exquisite torment. Her head tilts back, and the warm walls inside her clench and unclench to a rhythm that drives me to the brink.

“You’re mine,” I say, because no words have ever been truer.

“I’m fucking yours,” she moans, then screams. Warm wet soaks her insides, and I can no longer hold back.

“And I’m yours,” I say, voice strangled before oblivion takes me.

When it does, every molecular bond and force of magick holding me together shatters and reforms. Only, I’m no longer me. I’m Dhru and me, together. No part exists without her. My lungs don’t breathe unless she’s the air. My hearts don’t pump unless she’s the blood. My body doesn’t live, doesn’t exist, unless she’s the reason.

My soul sings at the joining of its other half. I feel her, inside me. In my veins. My bones. My cells.

  My Destined mate.

As we ride the wave of pleasure back to reality, I know one thing without doubt. Whatever happens with Dhru’s father, or the Council, I’ll be by her side. Not even death can separate us now.

As in all things writing, much like life, a successful outcome takes many hands. To anyone and everyone who has ever shared writing advice in all its many forms, thank you.

Thank you to the people who have dedicated their time, expertise, and care into critiquing this story to get it ready to publish. Thank you in particular to Kristina G., Kisa W., Amy G., and Scott H.

In addition, Scott, who is a friend better than most, a fellow writer, and a self-proclaimed comedian, wrote his own acknowledgement section. It goes like this: To my writing friend, Scott. I’m such a better writer because of you. Thank you SOOOO much. If you hadn’t harped on me to discover Neil Gaiman, I’d have never known how strongly words could be strung together. He’s a bit of a Neil Gaiman fanatic, so if any of you know Neil personally, send him my way. I’ll make sure he gets in contact with Scott . . . eventually.

I also want to thank my husband and kids. They love me, and support me to follow my dreams. And when they don’t, I lock myself in my room and write anyway.

Finally, to my readers. Can I call you fans? I hope so. And I truly hope you enjoyed Dhru and Creed as much as I enjoyed writing them. You can show your appreciation by leaving a review. Doesn’t need to be very long. A few sentences is enough to make Amazon happy. Then spread the word. Mention the books you’ve read to your friends, family, and on social media. Sing it from rooftops. Shout it at strangers . . . no. Actually, don’t do that. That’s probably illegal.

The truth is, readers make writers successful. For that, thank you!
