A Love Melody
Page 24
After making her promise that she would come to lunch tomorrow when her sons would also be present, Patricia finally let them go with one last hug. Valerie’s heart rate sped up the closer they got to her parents’ house. She had a feeling her Joan and Michael’s reaction wouldn’t be as easy-going as Patricia and Frank’s had been. Ryan reached out his hand.
“It’ll be okay, love.” His smile was warm and it reached deep down to her heart. He’d never failed to understand when she needed his support all through the years they’d known each other. “I promise to be on my best behavior. Your parents will love me.”
She chuckled and took his hand. “I’m sure they will.”
As her childhood home came into view, she took a deep breath and realized that she didn’t care about what her parents would say. She was going to marry this amazing man, whether they liked it or not.

Acknowledgments
I can hardly believe I’m here writing the acknowledgments for my first novel. It feels great–or, as Valerie would say, in her own Irish way: It feels grand!
Well, first of all I want to thank God, for all the good things He’s given me in life, most of all my passion for books and for writing, and for always supporting me whenever I thought I would never make it on my own and I felt like giving up. Even through tough times I know I will never be alone.
Secondly, I would like to thank Michael Bublé, who kept me company from the first to the very last chapter with his great music and wonderful voice. I know you will probably never read this, Michael, but in case you do, well, thank you—you’re the best.
And lastly, I would like to thank all those people who never thought I would make it, and always made fun of my wanting to be a writer, making me feel weird and out of place—they probably won’t read this, but I’ll write it anyway. I want to thank you because your comments helped me to hold on and never give up on my dream, just so that I could prove you wrong and show you that dreams can come true, if your heart is in it. Well, mine is—and always will be.
This novel would never have seen the light of day without your help.
About the Author
Grace Roberts writes heartwarming stories set in Ireland or in small towns in the United States—two places where she’d love to live while writing full-time. She’s also an avid reader who thinks daydreaming should be a paid profession and that the world would be a better place if bookworms ruled it.
Growing up as an only child, she spent all her free time with her nose stuck in books, enjoying the company of fictional friends, while dreaming of becoming an author. Discovering books by Rosamunde Pilcher was the turning point in her life, and she decided to start writing down the stories that kept playing in her head, just for fun. After the first couple of stories, though, she found it impossible to stop—and she’s been writing ever since.
