by Harlow Layne
Over the last few months, Luke and I had danced to it numerous times. He never cared what song we danced to or where we were when we danced. Sometimes I stood on top of the table so that I could be eye level with him and other times, I’d jump up and wrapped my legs around him as he swayed us around the room. Other times we’d be at the park or on the beach. It didn’t matter where. Never once did Luke complain and each and every time we danced, I fell for him a little bit more.
Only once I’d mentioned I wanted to dance to Iris when I got married, and he’d made that happen. We were discussing the food and music of the reception, when Luke smiled his lop-sided smile and told me he had it covered. Never in my wildest dream did I think he’d try to get The Goo Goo Dolls or Gabi to sing it. He made my dream come true. A moment that I’d never forget until the end of my days.
By the end of the song, I couldn’t fight the tears from falling any longer. The shoulder of Luke’s shirt was drenched with tears as I pulled back to look up at him, my chin trembling.
“Did I do good?” he asked, face soft as his thumbs wiped away my tears.
“Good doesn’t even come close to how I’m feeling right now. You, Luke Sandström made the entire experience perfect. It’s beyond perfect. It’s everything.”
I needed him. It had been less than twenty-four hours since my last orgasm, but this would be my first as Mrs. Sandström. The heated look in his eyes for the last hour hadn’t helped matters any.
Luke bent me over the bed that was now covered in rose petals and slipped inside of me.
“I can’t hold back.” He panted in my ear. “Next time, I’ll be gentle, but I need you too much right now.”
I thrust back against him and ground my ass against the area above his cock.
He plastered his front to my back and plunged his tongue deep inside my awaiting mouth.
My thighs trembled as I started to come apart. My body clenched around his throbbing cock only for him to pull out and flip me on my back before pushing inside once again.
Reaching up, I ran my hands up his chiseled abs, around his broad shoulders, and pulled him down for a fierce kiss. Our teeth clashed together. Our tongues dueled.
My muscles twitched, and my core tightened as my nails dug into his back.
Luke stilled, his eyes opened as he watched me fall apart underneath him.
I erupted into Earth shattering pleasure.
“I love you,” he moaned as he started pumping in and out in a frenzied tempo.
The love that reflected in his eyes, and each strategically placed thrust, had me falling all over again right along with him.
Rolling off to the side, Luke held me tight in his arms. We melted into each other as husband and wife. From that day forward, we would always be one.
“Was today everything you ever dreamed of, Mrs. Sandström?” he asked as I started to drift off in his arms.
The entire day had been perfect. A fairytale come to life. My Hollywood redemption.
“Everything and more.”
Epilogue
3 years later
“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?” I asked when I spotted Luke crossing into the closet through the mirror.
“To that Japanese restaurant that you like,” he called from inside.
That sounded good, only I hoped that he wouldn’t be suspicious when I didn’t order any sushi.
“Did your meeting go well?”
“Yeah, I’ll tell you about it later.” He sounded distracted as he shuffled and banged about.
Curling my last piece of hair, I asked. “What are you doing in there?”
“Just grabbing a few things I want to take back before I forget.”
Walking to the closet, I stopped at the door. “If you would have told me what you wanted I’d have packed them for you.”
Luke looked up at me while he shoved something into his bag. He still traveled light wherever he went and had gotten me to reduce what I packed, but that was only when we were going from one house to the other. Otherwise it looked like I was moving every time we traveled anywhere.
Placing his bag on the floor by the door, Luke leaned down to kiss my cheek. “I know you would’ve, but it was something I thought of on the way home. If you’re ready we should leave. We skipped lunch to finish up and I’m starved.”
“I only need to put my shoes on and I’ll be ready.”
It was early November and in Fairlane I’d already started wearing jeans and long sleeves. Half the time with a jacket, but in LA the weather was warm and gorgeous so I was wearing a fun gold dress.
I placed my hand on Luke’s arm as I eased first one shoe on and then the other. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
He kissed the top of my head before taking my hand. “I’m sure,” he smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “It’s been a long few days.”
“We can stay in if you’d like. I’d happily stay home and curl up on the couch with you.”
He smiled again and this time it reached his eyes. “I know you would, but we’ve got no food in the fridge and I promised I’d feed you.”
“We could order in. I don’t mind. You know I like to have you all to myself.”
I could see the war going on behind his eyes, but eventually being tired won out. “Alright, take those shoes back off and let’s call in a pizza. I’ll meet you downstairs.”
Promptly, I took off my heels before my feet could start hurting and took the stairs two at a time, to get to Luke as quickly as I could. I desperately wanted to know how his meeting had gone and to tell him my news.
When I found him, he was sprawled out on the couch with his eyes closed, but the moment he heard my footsteps his eyes popped open.
Turning on his side, he patted the spot he’d cleared for me. “Come snuggle up next to me, my beautiful wife.”
Happily.
With my head resting on his chest, I could hear his heart racing. Luke was nervous, but I had no idea what there was for him to be anxious about.
Instead of talking, he ran his fingers through my hair. If he didn't start speaking soon I'd likely fall asleep. The last couple of weeks I'd been dead tired, but we'd been busy. Luke had finished taping the series finale of Night Shadows, while I planned a party for the cast and crew, entertained Mason, and packed up what stuff we were taking back to Fairlane. The day after the party we flew back to Missouri and Mason went to stay with his dad and grandparents for two weeks. Two days later we were back in LA for Luke to meet with a director and movie producer who wanted him to be the male lead in a book trilogy they were making. We’d been there for a week and were set to fly back to Fairlane tomorrow.
I woke to the doorbell and Luke sliding out from behind me to answer the door. Blinking the sleep away, I watched his retreating form. After three years, I was still hot for my husband. Probably even more so. Our friends liked to joke with us about how sickeningly sweet we were together and how I always wanted to jump Luke.
I licked my lips as I watched him come back with two pizza boxes that smelled heavenly.
“Was that for me or the pizza?” he smirked as he set the boxes down.
“Most definitely you. You left this morning without waking me up.” My bottom lip stuck out in a fake pout for only a second before it quickly changed into a smile.
“I’m starved.” I moaned around a mouthful of my pizza.
“Me too,” he said around his slice. “You wanted your chicken supreme, right?”
I nodded as I finished chewing a bite. “I can’t believe we almost left without having it. I’m going to miss the food here. Maybe we should open up a restaurant or three in Fairlane, so we have more options.”
Eyes wide, Luke stared at me as he opened and closed his mouth a few times.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m only kidding. Although it would be nice if there were more restaurants by us.”
He nodded but kept quiet as he ate, which wasn’t normal for him. For every minute that went b
y, my anxiety started to increase at what could possibly be keeping him quiet. His eyes followed as my knee bounced up and down. From the moment I met Luke, we always had something to talk about. I couldn’t take another second of silence.
“I know you were hungry, but you’ve got to start talking because I’m over here about ready to lose my mind on what could possibly be wrong.”
“There’s nothing wrong.” He wiped his hand off on a napkin only to then run his hand through his hair. “I didn’t sign on to do the movies.” He shook his head as it was his turn to watch me gape. “From the beginning I’ve always told you I’d do anything for love and family.”
Sitting my pizza down, I made my way to his side of the couch and straddled him. “You have, but surely there’s got to be some way for you to do the movie. I know how badly you wanted to do them.”
His hands moved to my hips, his thumbs brushing against my lower back. “They want to film the movies back to back all in Canada.” His eyes shut for a moment as he took in a deep breath and I wanted to cry. He wanted that role more than any other and now he was hurting. When he opened his eyes, I only saw resolve reflecting back at me. “When I told them I only film during the summer months it was all they could do not to laugh at me.”
“Then they’re assholes.” I wanted to yell, but I knew it wouldn’t help matters any. I needed to keep calm for Luke.
His lips tipped up into a small smile. “Not really, and they did try to work with me. They offered to do the first movie next summer, and then the other two starting the summer after that.”
“I’m sorry, Luke.” I cupped his cheeks and pressed a light kiss to his full lips. “I’m sure there’s some way we can make it work if you really want the part.”
Wrapping his arms around me, he pulled me flush against him. “I want the part, but if I do these movies it will change our lives forever. Yes, we’ll be set for life with money, and my career will skyrocket.”
“But?”
“The sex scenes are not what you’ve seen me do before. I did put in for you to be there for all the scenes, not that it matters now. The book fans will either love it or hate it and if they love it…”
“You’ll be known everywhere you go and it will be hard to maintain the level of privacy we have now.” I finished for him.
“I like what we have now.” He leaned his head back on the couch and looked up. “It’s a lot to put up with. If you’re still okay with it knowing what you know now, and you think you can get Decker to agree with Mason being gone that long, I’ll call them back. They said they’d give me until the end of the week to decide before they offered it to someone else. What do you think?”
I didn’t have an answer. I couldn’t until Luke knew. This wasn’t exactly how I planned on telling him, but it would have to do.
“Do you think we could do it with a baby in tow?” I asked with a smile I was sure would break my face in two.
“I… well… um… a baby?” His eyes widened, mouth parted. “Are you sure? A baby? Our baby?”
“Who else’s?” I laughed.
“Alex.” His eyes softened as his hands rounded to my stomach and gazed down. His voice was barely above a whisper when he spoke. “We’re going to have a baby.”
I nodded as I swallowed the lump in my throat. After we decided to try, I cancelled my appointment at the doctor’s office to get my shot. We were told that it might take me up to a year to get my period back and at least eighteen months to get pregnant.
He gazed up at me in wonder. “I thought it would take at least a year for you to get pregnant.”
Warmth radiated throughout my entire body as I took in the smile on his face. His eyes glittered with happiness and I knew mine reflected the same. This time would be different. This time was already different than the last. We cried from happiness, not from sadness at being stuck with each other for the rest of our lives.
“I love you so much.” Luke repeated over and over again as he peppered kisses all over my face.
Tears streaked down my cheeks. “I love you too.” A sob broke out. “We made a baby.”
“It only took two months for you to get pregnant. It’s a miracle.”
“Thank you for giving me this.”
His brows furrowed. “When are you due?”
“I don’t know. I have an appointment with my doctor when we get back.” I tried to do the math in my head but wasn’t sure if I was right or not. “My guess is sometime the beginning of May.”
“I know you’re an amazing woman and mother, but do you really think you’ll want to uproot your life and live in Canada for three months right after you have a baby? I won’t be around to help you like I want to.”
Wrapping my arms around his shoulders, I rested my forehead to his. “I hate to be the reason you turn it down.”
“There will be other movie roles, and if not then I’m okay with that, but I’m not okay with missing out on my child growing up. I haven’t missed one of Mason’s soccer games, a sleepover, or a skinned knee since I came into his life. I’m not going to start missing all the important stuff now, and I promised you that I’d be there to help you.” He brushed his lips to mine before resting our foreheads together. I stared into his cerulean eyes that shined with happiness. “I can’t do that being on set for fourteen-hour days. This is the right decision for us.”
My heart melted with all the love I had for him. Each day I fell more and more in love. Luke Sandström was the perfect husband and father, who just proved it in spades.
“I love you more than words can ever express. I’m going to do everything in my power to show you each and every day.”
He cupped the side of my neck, eyes full of adoration. “You already do.” Our lips met in a soft brush. I kissed the corners of his mouth before nibbling on his bottom lip.
Lying me down on the couch, Luke rested to the side of me with one leg thrown over mine. Lifting the edge of my shirt up until it reached my breast that had already started to grow in size, he placed soft kisses over my still flat stomach. I couldn’t wait to see it pop out with proof of our baby.
Looking down at me with his hand rubbing circles across my belly a tear slipped from his eye. “Thank you for giving me this. For giving me you and Mason, and your love.”
“What else could I give you? You’ve already given me a fairytale life and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next chapter in our lives.”
