Contains extracts from much material of State Paper character otherwise unknown, probably from that part of the Cottonian collection totally destroyed in the Ashburnham House fire of 1731, an exceptional catastrophe for manuscripts: that part of the collection on the shelves with the classifications ‘Otho’ and ‘Vitellius’ seems to have been particularly badly hit, and the likelihood is that the unknown material is from there
