Love Me Love Me Knot

“Wouldn’t have missed this for anything.”

  “I know. I love you.”

Sophie glared at Ryan. “So, even before you came into the café that night, you’d already talked to Grandmoo?”

Ryan smiled into Sophie’s neck, leaving a kiss that nearly compromised Sophie’s balance. “Like she said, ‘some surprises are worth the wait.’”

The three of them ambled out to the staging area. Grandmoo had reserved seating up front and Ryan helped her to her chair before meeting Sophie on stage.

The press busily snapped pictures of magazine contributors and councilmen, and the speakers as they spoke.

At her turn, she stepped up to the mic where she nervously held her notes and cleared her throat.

The light breeze ruffled her hair and a bird cawed in the distance. Sophie tapped the microphone until it squealed to life. “Good afternoon,” she said, her voice bouncing off the surrounding buildings. She looked at her notes again, but they were all twisted and looked like the letter ‘Q’. So she dropped them and peeked at her new fiancé. A smile draped across her face and she began. “Twice in the recent past I managed to make a less than graceful appearance on YouTube. I strongly believe in the power of three, as it’s historically a lucky number. So, ladies and gentleman, please get your cameras ready.”

Sophie reached for Ryan’s hand and brought him with her to the front of the stage. She then placed her palms on either side of Ryan’s bewildered face, and rubbed her fingers across his stubble. “Are you ready?” she whispered.

“For what?” he asked in the same quiet voice, his Caribbean eyes searching hers.

“To go viral, of course.” And then she crushed her lips over his with newsworthy fierceness.

The hooting and hollering cheers from her girls as well as the clicking sounds from the camera’s apertures drowned out the thumping hums of Sophie’s racing heart. Sophie kept Ryan’s face in her shaking hands and only broke the kiss when she needed air. “Take that, YouTube,” Sophie said, smiling against Ryan’s mouth.

And please share stories about your crazy kids. She yearns to normalize her daily dose of children-induced insanity.
