A Touch Bittersweet Page 21

by Carter Ashby

Frank got the fire lit. Charlotte brought in a tray of her special grown-up Christmas punch. Levi hopped down and ran off to play with his siblings and cousins.

As he looked around, Logan saw everything that had changed in his life since his mother’s diagnosis six months ago. Everyone sat and devoted all of their attention to Eleanor. They knew this would be her last Christmas. Once, Logan would have assumed this would be his last Christmas, too—at least with his family. Now, when he was able to look across the room and share a smile and nod with Frank while he held his new future wife in his arms—he knew that it was actually the first of many.

Next year would look different. There would be an empty place in the room and in their hearts. But his family would be together.

And he would be with them.

CARTER ASHBY LIVES in Missouri with her three children and two dogs. She is a staff copywriter for a crochet magazine. She writes contemporary romance novels. And whatever is going on…she would rather be reading.
