Back in the squad room, Caruso and the team members gathered around Pepper and Wallace as they showed the invoice and relayed their conversation with Mrs. Hooper.

"He's starting to slip," Caruso said. "Let's run that partial plate and see what we get. Filter the search down to dark-coloured cars."

"I'm on it," Wallace said, stepping over to his computer.

"Let's see that invoice." Caruso set the evidence bag down on the desk in front of them. "That printing is really messy. I'm sure the guy scribbled that down in a hurry, just in case the Fletcher girl asked to look at it. If Drummond's our guy, we'd need a sample to compare it to."

"We don't have anything," Chin said. "I can check with Ashley Devers to see if Drummond gave her anything when she was a student of his."

"If it was Drummond," McTavish said, "he could have printed it that messy on purpose, or even done it with his wrong hand."

"True, but we've got to start somewhere. I think whoever did this left it there by mistake. He's been too careful with everything else so far. I'm sure he must have just missed it when he took the girl out of there. If he meant to take it, it might be his actual printing."

"I've looked at Nicole Fletcher's social networking pages," Chin said. "So far, I haven't found any connections to either of the other two girls. At this point, I'd surmise they don't know each other."

McTavish spoke up. "I've looked into her information at Western. She's a second year English major, and hasn't taken any sociology classes. She's never had Drummond as a teacher."

"Well, the other girls never did either, so we can't put much stock in that." The Inspector paused, looking at the murder board as he absentmindedly started moving his watch back and forth, the pictures of the three young girls looking back at him.
