The Fishing Trip Page 2

Bill checked the burgundy SUV. The doors were unlocked, but, other than a musty smell, the vehicle seemed fine. When he came around the front of the vehicle a smell like an animal that had been dead for a while hit him. The smell almost made Bill throw his breakfast up. He coughed, pulled out a handkerchief and put it over his nose and mouth.

There was a tent just beyond the SUV. Bill pulled his pistol out with one hand while keeping the handkerchief over his nose and mouth with the other. He slowly made his way to the front of the tent. He saw what he thought might be a dead animal, but the closer he got to it he knew it was human.

Bill couldn’t stop himself and threw up when he saw the body of a man with his chest lying open. It looked as if some kind of wild animal had ripped the flesh off his chest and had eaten what was inside. Bill composed himself and wiped his mouth with the handkerchief. He looked around the campsite and didn’t find any other body.

Bill looked towards the tent. “The others must be in there,” he thought to himself. He stuck his head into the tent’s opening and had to step back. The smell inside the tent was stronger then what was coming from the half ate man. He took a deep breath, held it in, put his nose and mouth in the crook of his arm and quickly went into the tent.

There leaning on the back wall of the tent sat a man. His skin was a grayish-white color. His eyes were glazed over and staring at the tent’s opening. His face was frozen in twisted horror. Flies were flying and lighting on the man’s exposed skin. By the smell, Bill figured that he had been dead for at least a week. Bill couldn’t take the smell any longer and backed out of the tent still with his nose and mouth covered.

Bill kept his nose and mouth covered until he got to the edge of the water. There was a small aluminum boat tied up floating in the water. Bill uncovered his nose and mouth and took a deep breath and then let it out. He squatted a little and put his hands on his legs. “That two of them,” he said out loud. “I wonder where the other two are?”

Bill suddenly got the feeling that he wasn’t alone. He quickly straightened up, pulled his pistol out and spun around. There before him stood two young ladies. One had sandy blonde hair and the other was a brunette. “We didn’t mean to scare you mister,” said the brunette with a giggle.
