“Take the ring from the tree, babe.”
Her fingers shook as she did what he asked and then turned back to him. He took the ring from her hand, then slid it onto her finger. “I know what a sacrifice it was for you to uproot your entire life and move here to be with me. I want to spend the rest of my life proving to you that you made the right decision. From the moment I first fell in love with you, I knew that I wanted you to be my wife. Will you do me that honor?”
She dropped to her knees, tears falling freely, and cried, “Yes. Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes!”
She threw her arms around his neck, her lips immediately finding his. He pulled her tightly to him. She moaned into his mouth, and that little sound was all it took for him to burn for her.
Angling his head, he took the kiss deeper, reveling in the feel of her in his arms. He mumbled against her lips, saying, “You want to take this to the bedroom?”
She shook her head and mumbled in return, “No way.”
Leaning back in surprise, he watched as the firelight reflected in her eyes and her smile widened.
“I want to make love right here in the living room in front of the fireplace and next to our first Christmas tree.”
His heart warmed at her words as they kneeled together, their hands peeling off each other’s clothes.
Later, still lying on the rug in front of the fireplace, their arms around each other, legs tangled, breathing beginning to slow, he vowed to celebrate every Christmas exactly the same way. And prayed that they would have a lifetime of Christmases together.
