“Do you remember what she said?” Lucy asked.
“The greatest of your kind will flourish in your hands to save us from the hells of war. Follow the dark bird to your destiny for they are intertwined.” Elaina's voice said and we all turned our heads to look at her.
“I was in the kitchen that day too.” She smiled.
“I thought the prophecy was about overthrowing my father, so the pack could flourish. My father was destroying the pack from the inside with his madness. Four years later, at sixteen, I shifted for the first time, which was two years sooner than normal wolves. I also discovered my elemental gift that same evening. I assumed it was a sign and challenged my father.”
“Is Earth your only element?” Lucy asked.
“Yes. But I'm also a descendant of King Lycaon, who was the first werewolf turned by Zeus, so my wolf is much bigger and stronger than most.” I said.
“What was your prophecy?” Niko asked.
“It was given to me when I was pregnant with the twins, just before the Luna ceremony. I thought it meant one of the boys, they both inherited the water element. When Raven turned eighteen, and discovered she had both elementals, I knew the prophecy was her destiny. I think I’ve always known it was her destiny. Her eyes would flash amber colors when she was a pup and experienced extreme emotions. The same thing happened to me when Alexis gave me the prophecy.” She paused in thought before she continued to recite the prophecy.
“There is a war coming and a lost wolf. Only the one born from Gods can set the course. In a hundred years, a descendant will possess the power of all four and save us in the Great War to come.”
Lucy took a drink of her wine. “We had a pack war and lost the most beloved wolf in our family shortly after the prophecy. As you may have noticed today, I’m born from Gods. I believe I have set the course; intertwined destinies are now coming together.”
“Yours talks about war too.” I said thoughtfully.
Diesel let out a low growl. “And yours talks about a dark bird with intertwined destinies ... a Raven is one of the darkest of birds.”
Chapter 32 – Twist
I woke up early in the morning, sprawled across Dimitri's chest. This seemed to be my favorite sleeping position. Even if I fell asleep on my side of the bed, I always seemed to wake up on top of him. Like some mysterious magnet that just drew me to him.
“Don't blame me, I sleep when you sleep.” Rae said to me.
“I don't mind being your pillow baby, it makes Dom happy.” Dimitri said as he opened his beautiful warm honey colored eyes. I kissed his chest and I'm almost certain I heard a purr from deep within. I ran my hands across his chiseled abs and heard a low growl in his throat. I wanted him.
“I'm trying to behave; your parents are under the same roof. If you keep that up little bird, they won't see us until
dinner.” He groaned at me.
“I wouldn’t mind.” Rae purred at me.
“Ughh, you're right. We should probably get showered and dressed. I needed to talk with my parents and find out how long they intended to stay. Surely they won't insist on me returning with them now.” I said.
“Your father wouldn't dare upset his mate. Hell, I don't even want to upset her.” Dimitri laughed.
We went into the kitchen to find my mother helping Elaina with breakfast. Niko, Rocky and Clair were already seated and eating. They had a platter full of delicious looking omelettes ready to be devoured. “Good morning, can you believe all the eggs are fresh from the chicken coop. I got to help gather the eggs this morning.” My mother said enthusiastically, she enjoyed cooking.
“Dumas keeps a lot of chickens on the island for meat and eggs.” Elaina told us.
“Fresh eggs make the best omelettes.” Niko said stuffing his mouth full.
“Where's dad?” I asked.
“He's already had breakfast. Knox and your father went down to a little beach on the western side of the island to train with the sea. I guess it's not the same as training with the water from rivers or lakes.” My mom said.
“Well why didn't I get an invite? If anyone needs more training it's me.” I scoffed.
I don't get it, my dad always did this! He spent more time training with my older brothers and only taught me the easy things. Just because they would both be Alpha's of our two family packs, doesn't mean my training was any less important. For crying out loud, I'm standing in the middle of a shit storm with a deranged mafia boss who wants me dead; but at least I can perform a simple water bubble while my brother learns to part the fucking sea!
I ran out the back door fuming and could hear my mother call out my name. I ignored her, ran into the trees, then I slipped my clothes off and shifted. Rae picked up the dress in her mouth and ran to the only beach on the island.
When I reached the beach, my father and Knox had pushed the ocean back about five yards. They were both using their water element and holding it back like a wall of sea water. Rae let out a bark and they both turned to look at me. They lost their concentration dropping the wall that splashed back up to the shoreline. I went back behind a large bush and put my dress on, then I marched back to the beach to talk to my father.
“You know, Knox and Peter are not your only gifted children. Why do you only show me the easy stuff and they get to learn the big stuff?” I asked.
“Raven, we haven't had much time to develop your gift.” My father told me.
“That's right and yet here you are, training Knox and completely forgot to invite me. Just because I'm not going to be an Alpha of a pack, doesn't mean I don't need the same training. I can do party tricks with water while my brothers can actually kill people with their gift.” I snapped.
“And is that what you want? To kill people?” My dad asked.
“Of course not, but I still need to know how to defend myself and my pack.” I replied.
“Well you have a very strong mate who will protect you now, won't you Alpha?” My father said and I turned around to see Dimitri walking towards us on the beach.
“What's the problem here?” Dimitri asked me.
“My father was just training my brother how to hold the sea back.” I tried not to sound like I was whining. “I haven't had as much—"
A popping noise rang out and Dimitri threw me to the sand before I registered what happened. A whizzing sound flew just over us, and my father roared out. Someone was shooting at us.
“NO, DON'T SHIFT! You'll be an easy big target on this beach. GET DOWN!” Dimitri called out to my father and used his element to lift sand in the air to give us some cover. He also created a trench like ditch in the ground to sink us into with his element.
Dimitri was still laying on top of me and looked out at the ocean. “There’s two boats, wolves and they have silver bullets. Now would be a good time to try the sea wall, high waves or better yet a whirlpool!” Dimitri said.
“Ohhh, I've never tried a whirlpool before.” Knox said with longing in his eyes to try a whirlpool.
“They just tried to shoot someone we all love, with a silver bullet. Focus your angry energy on the water beneath the boat. Picture the water moving in a big vortex, a whirlpool pool that will suck them down.” Dimitri told us.
“Did he just say he loved us?” Rae asked me.
I looked out at the water and did as Dimitri instructed, how the hell did they find us so quickly? A silver bullet would have been deadly to me, and it pissed me off! I thought about what happened to Leo and what they just tried to do to us, rage started to build inside of me. The water started spinning and their boats moved in a circle.
Dimitri floated around a few big boulders, to look like moving shadows. A few more bullets zipped at the floating boulders. These wolves were obviously sent here to kill. Dimitri got angry and sent a massive boulder tumbling down from the cliffs edge at one of the boats and it capsized into the whirlpool.
“Knox, are you making the water spin?” My dad asked.
“No!” Knox replied. They b
oth looked at me with recognition in their eyes.
“Well? Are you going to gawk at me or help?” I said.
My father looked out at the spinning water and channeled his energy into it, the whirlpool started spinning faster. Moving river or lake water was so much easier than ocean water. The ocean had a mind of its own, with its own energy, forces, currents and rip tides to work against. Knox also joined in and the boats were still spinning out of control. Dimitri sent another massive boulder flying at the boats and the second boat was on its side.
The power of the whirlpool pulled everything to the bottom and when we finally stopped, we sat waiting and watching for any survivors. Dimitri had mind linked Niko and the island warriors, they arrived at the beach.
“We've just had an attempted breach. Two boats, about a dozen wolves total, armed with silver bullets. I need the entire island fully patrolled now and everyone on high alert.” Dimitri instructed.
“No one knows the location of this island. How did they find us?” Niko asked.
“I think you may have a traitor.” My father told Dimitri.
“Maybe. Or possibly a tracking device of some sort.” Dimitri said.
“Raven, you almost got hit with a silver bullet. You're not immune to silver and could have ended up like your grandfather. I think you should come home until all of this is sorted out.” My father said.
“I am home!” I snapped back. What the hell is wrong with my dad? I needed to be with my mate, especially during this difficult time. I wasn't about to crawl into some hole and hide.
“That's actually not a bad idea.” Dimitri said.
“Excuse me?” Rae popped off in my mind.
“Excuse me?” I echoed her sentiment out loud.
“None of these men survived. We don't know if they belong to Stefanos or possibly Hades. We can send you back with your parents and put the word out that you had been attacked and killed with a silver bullet.” Dimitri said.
“I'm not leaving.” I said.
“I need you to be safe, I can't do what I need to do if you're in danger. If anything happens to you Dom won't be able to function.” Dimitri said.
“What are we going to do, fake my funeral? I'm not hiding! We know where Stefanos is, we need to plan his takedown. If Hades is seeking revenge for his murdering father, I will burn him alive and send him to the underworld where he belongs.” I said nearly growling.
“Who's Hades?” My father asked.
“He's Eros’ only son, just turned eighteen and will be Alpha of the Moon Warriors now. Their territory is north of mine, just passed Mount Olympus and Georgios is east of it. I've been considering taking that pack, Eros was a terrible Alpha and his son will probably be worse.” Dimitri said.
“If we help you with Stefanos, will you help me take that pack from Hades?” My father asked.
“Wait, what?” I asked.
“You want another pack?” Knox asked in disbelief.
“Yes. It's a small pack but perfect for Roman. I'm sure Raven has mentioned her five brothers. Knox is the heir of Crescent Moon and Peter is set to take Dark Moon from my brother. They will be twenty-one soon and have been training for the last three years to take over their packs. My brother and I will have more free time now. Roman will be eighteen in less than nine months and I'm sure he would love his own pack. My older brother Ranger and Clair’s parents could also rotate and travel back and forth to help Roman with the pack. Plus, it will give us a good reason to be close to our daughter and niece.” My father said.
“What about LaRue Enterprises?” I asked.
“What about it? We can easily open up a branch in Athens. I still expect you to be my CEO someday.” My father smiled as if he had actually given this some thought already.
“You don't need an excuse to visit with your daughter Alpha, you are welcome anytime. If you want Eros’ pack, I'll be happy to help you take it. The last thing Greece needs is another corrupt pack run by Eros’ son. I don't think the shifter’s council will care.” Dimitri told my dad.
“I'll handle the shifter’s council.” My father said.
“I like the twist! Let's get back to the pack house and make sure everyone is Okay. I also need to call my Gamma and Delta to warn them, Stefanos may send men to the pack as well.” Dimitri said.
We shifted into our wolves and ran back to the pack house. Rae enjoyed running with Duke, Dom and Knight. When we reached the pack house, my mother was sitting on the veranda with Clair. “Well aren't you quite the sight to see, four black Alpha wolves.” She smiled.
Chapter 33 – Dolos
“A vast sea, thousands of islands and they found us that fast?” My mother asked when we explained what had just happened.
“Stefanos must be working with Hades now.” Niko said.
“Maybe we should take the pack from Hades first and cut off a resource to Stefanos?” I suggested.
“But it still doesn't explain how we were tracked to the island. When I purchased the islands, my attorney did it with sole anonymity as a shell corporation. The island is also off the grid with its own water and electric supply.” Dimitri said.
“Do you have scramblers on your internet?” My father asked.
“Yes.” Dimitri said.
“Any new additions to your staff or pack brought to the island?” My mother asked.
“The same loyal members from our mainland pack.” Dimitri looked lost in thought.
“Alpha, I've got Alec and Spiro on the phone.” Niko said.
“Put them on speaker.” Dimitri said. He explained what had just occurred on the beach and Alec also suggested taking out the northern pack. Eros’ son, Hades, was bad news. Spiro was going to double the patrols but reported nothing out of the ordinary. I reminded everyone not to trust scent alone, because many wolves in Greece hide their scent.
“When should we expect Odessa to return?” Alec asked.
“What do you mean? She came back after Leo's funeral, didn't she?” Dimitri asked.
“No she didn't.” Alec responded.
“I thought you knew.” Knox said.
“Knew what?” I could feel Dimitri's tension rising.
“Alpha Georgios said he would talk to you about it. He's Odessa’s mate.” Knox told us.
“WHAT?” Dimitri, Niko and Alec all responded in unison.
“It's true, she asked us not to say anything until Alpha Georgios had the chance to speak with you.” My mother added.
“I'LL FUCKING KILL HIM!” Dimitri growled.
“You can't interfere with the Moon Goddess's plans.” My father suppressed a laugh at Dimitri's overprotective reaction. My mother gave my dad the eye and the smirk from his face disappeared.
“Where's your mate Knox?” Dimitri asked my brother.
“Rocky wanted to sleep in and then take a long warm bath. I can go get her if you want.” Knox said.
“Please do.” Dimitri told him and Knox left the room to fetch Rocky.
“Alpha, should I get Georgios on the phone?” Niko asked.
“Yes.”
I could just imagine how this was going to go. Odessa was Dimitri's only family; he had practically raised her himself. If they thought my father reacted poorly, wait until they see Dimitri's reaction. I could feel his emotions and he was ready to explode.
“It's a very nice pack and can easily be reached in five hours from your pack. She's still going to be fairly close to you.” My mother tried to calm Dimitri.
“Hello Alpha Dimitri.” Georgios voice came out of the speaker phone.
“Where's my sister?” Dimitri skipped the formalities and got straight to the point.
“Ahh, I was hoping to speak with you about that tomorrow, when you returned to the mainland.”
“What makes you think I'd be returning to the mainland tomorrow Georgios?” Dimitri asked and I could feel his suspicion.
“I-I assumed you would make your way home or to my pack once you heard about your sister and I being mates.” Georgio
s said.
“You assumed wrong. However, if you don't put my sister on the phone, I will not hesitate to come rip your throat out.” Dimitri growled.
“How are your in-laws doing? Has Alpha LaRue taken a liking to you?” Georgios quickly changed the subject.
My father opened his mouth to speak but Dimitri raised his hand and placed a finger to his lips to tell him to be quiet. We all got the message and stood quietly.
“I'm afraid Alpha LaRue is not very fond of me. Must be all those beast stories he's heard. He refuses to be in my company and has threatened to end me. I believe they left the island last night. I'm not sure what he’s planning, but I don’t trust him.” Dimitri said and we all exchanged puzzled looks.
