13. You can now begin to communicate. The answers may come in any number of ways, images, words, or feelings. Just remain open and receive what comes.

  14. When you feel that the conversation is over, dismiss the shade, thanking it for its participation, and setting it free from you. See the shade dissolving away.

  15. Go again to the four quarters, saying “good bye (person's name), return now to the shadows.”

  16. Close your ritual space, performing the lesser pentagram ritual a second time, and withdrawing all of the energy of your protective circle back into yourself. Do not under any circumstances omit the banishing for any reason. Make sure that all of the energy you’ve evoked has dissipated.

  17. Record your experience in your journal.

Exercise 103 - Necromancy of Knowledge

Time Required: 40 to 60 minutes

The purpose here is to obtain information from someone that you do not necessarily know, but that you cannot obtain in any other way. This could be in the case of some spiritual master or great thinker of the past, whose ideas you wish to understand better, or who died with some secret that you need to know. This technique is exactly the same as the last, but you omit the “dumb supper,” and use black candles instead of white. All the other steps are identical. You shouldn’t just use this lightly, and you must certainly take any information you receive with a grain of salt.

  1. Consult with your subconscious using the pendulum.

  2. Uncover the image of the person, and bring it into your working area.

  3. Get into the Alpha state using your anchor.

  4. Do opening preparations, including any combination of purification, consecration, chakra opening, Kundalini arousing breaths, circle casting and the pentagram ritual.

  5. Make a statement of your intent, naming the person you intend to contact out loud, clearly and with conviction, looking at the image.

  6. Potently draw the light of your superconscious into you, until you feel deeply connected with the true source of your power, a deep sense of cosmic strength.

  7. Direct this energy into the triangle of evocation. Begin to accumulate the energy into an amorphous shape.

  8. Recite your spell three times, looking at the image before you, conjuring up all the force you can, and directing it into the energy in the triangle.

  9. Go to each of the four corners clockwise, starting in the north and ending in the west, calling the person’s name, inviting them to join you.

  10. You should have a pillow or small chair in your workspace that you can sit in to allow as full relaxation and visualization as possible. Begin to focus on your third eye to develop your visualization. You can use your Alpha state anchor again at this point, taking a moment to deepen and focus your state.

  11. Say the person’s name slowly, three times, feeling their presence in the triangle.

  12. Look to the triangle. The shade of the person will manifest in some way, although it may not be that clear.

  13. You can now begin to communicate. The answers may come in any number of ways, images, words, or feelings. Just remain open and receive what comes.

  14. When you feel that the conversation is over, dismiss the shade, thanking it for its participation.

  IN CLOSING

You now have enough magical practices to occupy you for a very long time. Hopefully you are working through these techniques slowly and methodically, developing your powers gradually and thoughtfully. All of the powers of heaven and earth are now at your fingertips. There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.

I wish to finally share an extended quote from the secret instructions of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn that will hopefully be of some assistance to you on your continuing journey.

“Thou therefore who desirest magical gifts, be sure that thy soul is firm and steadfast, for it is by flattering thy weakness that the Evil One will gain power over thee. Humble thyself before thy God, yet fear neither man nor spirit. Fear is failure and the forerunner of failure; and courage the beginning of virtue. Therefore fear not the spirits, but be firm and courteous with them, for this too may lead you into sin. Command and banish the Evil ones. Curse them by the Great Names of God, if need be; but neither mock nor revile them, for so assuredly thou wilt be led into error… To obtain magical Power, learn to control thought. Admit only true ideas which are in harmony with the end desired, and not every stray and contradictory idea that presents itself. Fixed thought is a means to an end; therefore pay attention to the power of silent thought and meditation. The material act is but the outward expression of the thought, and therefore it hath been said that ‘the thought of foolishness is sin.’ Thought therefore is the commencement of action, and if a chance thought can produce much effect, what cannot fixed thought do?… Establish thyself firmly in the Equilibrium of Forces, in the center of the cross of the elements, that Cross from whose centre the creative word issued in the birth of the dawning universe… Be thou therefore prompt and active as the Sylphs, but avoid frivolity and caprice. Be energetic and strong like the Salamanders, but avoid irritability and ferocity. Be flexible and attentive to images like the Undines, but avoid idleness and changeability. Be laborious and patient like the Gnomes, but avoid grossness and avarice. So shalt thou gradually develop the powers of thy Soul and fit thyself to command the spirits of the elements. For wert thou to summon the Gnomes to pander to thy avarice, thou wouldst no longer command them, but they would command thee. Wouldst thou abuse the pure creatures of God’s creation to fill thy coffers and to satisfy thy lust for Gold? Wouldst thou defile the Spirits of driving Fire to serve thy wrath and hatred? Wouldst thou violate the purity of the Souls of the Water to pander to thy lust and debauchery? Wouldst thou force the Spirits of the evening breeze to minister to thy folly and caprice? Know that with such desires thou canst but attract the evil and not the good, and in that case the evil will have power over thee.”

Love is the law, love under will.

  APPENDIX A

  Three Types of

  Magick Wands

There are infinite ways to construct a magick wand, and many authorities believe that their way is the “one correct way.” You will have to use your own judgment and experience to determine your own preference. Below you will find three examples of simple wands that I have found useful.

  Simple Branch of Tree

The easiest way to make a magick wand is simply to cut a small branch from a tree. Traditionally there are a few kinds of tree that are considered “most magical.” These are: almond, hazel, oak, willow, yew and a few others. Different trees suit different temperaments. Find a suitable tree, and cut off a young branch. Use your growing intuition to determine whether it is an appropriate tree, and try to get the tree's permission to do this, using your subconscious and perhaps even consulting the pendulum. It is traditional to cut the branch with a single stroke, but this may be easier said than done. Then you will strip the bark, smooth down the wood, rub it down with an appropriate oil, and consecrate it in some way.

  Magnetized Rod through Dowel

Another fairly simply procedure that is purported to empower your wand with greater force is to insert a magnetized steel or iron rod down the length of your wand's shaft. You can use a branch cut from a tree as above, or use a wooden dowel for this. The traditional manner for getting the metal rod through the wood is to super heat it so that it burns a passage as you work it down through the wand. This is impractical and hard to do in practice. A much easier approach is simply to cut the wand into sections, an
d drill a hole down the center than will neatly accommodate the diameter of your magnetized rod. The “south pole” of your magnetized rod faces the front of the wand.

  Crystal Wand

This is the type of wand that I generally use, not because it is necessarily any more effective than anything else, but simply that I first constructed it many years ago when I was a young teenager, and it has great sentimental value, and years of use to back up its strength. I first learned of this wand from a book of rather questionable value called Crystal Power[1], which stated that this type of wand was used in ancient Atlantis, and the technology behind it was responsible for all of the great and unimaginable achievements of that civilization. While this has always seemed rather mythological to me, I built a wand like this as a teenager, and it has remained with me since. This is a fairly easy wand to construct, but you will need a few materials: a small clear quartz crystal with a point, a copper tube 8 to 15 inches in length whose diameter will neatly fit the crystal, an end cap for the copper tube, several feet of leather strap, and glue.

With these materials in hand, you will glue the crystal so that it points out of the copper tube, and glue the end cap to the other end. Then you glue the leather strap around and around the tube, to insulate it.

The idea behind this wand is that the hollow tube is used to collect your energy; the leather strap will help to insulate and keep it in the rod, while the crystal will focus and amplify it as you project the energy outwards. In some ways, this wand reminds me a little of one of Wilhelm Reich's orgone contraptions. You will have to judge for yourself how effective this wand will be for you.

  APPENDIX B

  A Simple Consecration Ritual

It may be a good idea to ritually consecrate your magick and psychic tools, such as the wand that we just discussed, so that they have been cleared of outside energies, and specifically charged for your specialized ritual use. The following simple procedure will be sufficient. You will need a small basin of water in your ritual space, as well as appropriate incense or oil.

  1. Use your anchor to go into the Alpha state.

  2. Perform a circle casting, and whatever other opening preparations you think appropriate.

  3. Take the object you are consecrating in your hand.

  4. Either immerse it into the basin of water, or if that is inappropriate (if the object is delicate or made of paper) simply sprinkle a bit of water on the object.

  5. Say to yourself “I cleanse this (object), so that I may purify this (object), so that I may use it to accomplish my work,” or something similar. You could also specifically mention the work you are going to use it for.

  6. Visualize and feel the water sucking away all negativity. Imagine vividly that all previous uses, images, thoughts and worries that don’t relate to your special work with this object are now disappearing, magnetically drawn into the water.

  7. Take up some burning incense in your hand (In a censer or incense holder. Don’t burn yourself!). You could also use holy oil.

  8. Place your object into the smoke of your incense, smelling it and feeling the warm tickle of it filling the object, (or anoint the object with oil) saying, “I consecrate this (object) to my work, and this work alone that it may be accomplished with the power of the great animating consciousness of the universe,” or some such other words that you devise. Feel and visualize the light from your superconscious filling your whole body as you say this, and feel this energy filling your object with the inspired power of your superconscious mind.

  9. Close your circle.

  10. Record your experience in your journal.

You may find it useful to invoke appropriate energies into your tools. For example, the energy of Fire might be suitable for your Wand (as Fire rules thw Will), or Lunar energy might be useful for your pendulum (as the Moon rules the subconscious). But these further matters will be up to your own creativity and specific needs.

  Unicursal Planetary Hexagrams

Here are two different versions of the planetary hexagrams, using a unicursal rather than a double-triangle hexagram. It should also be noted that the signs of the Zodiac may be invoked by the hexagrams of their ruling planet. This is, of course, also true of the traditional hexagrams. You can also invoke the signs of the Zodiac with their appropriate elemental pentagrams. The difference in this will depend on whether you wish to stress their terrestrial or celestial nature.

The first versions of the unicursal hexagrams use the same type of lineal pattern as the pentagrams, and are from Israel Regardie[1], while the second use a similar pattern to the traditional hexagrams with some necessary modification of course:
