Love of the Witch

Was he for real? She still didn’t believe that he was interested in anything more than just a roll in the hay, but she couldn’t resist a good bet. So she cocked her head to the side and said, “All right. Six dates in six weeks. You have to plan them all around things that I enjoy. It’s your job to figure that out. If any of the dates go sideways, it’s over and you have to be my pool boy until the end of October when we get around to winterizing it, and your uniform will consist of a thong.”
Brian’s eyes gleamed at the suggestion. “A thong is awfully uncomfortable, Shannon. And isn’t that a little late to be winterizing a pool around here?”
“The pool has been spelled to withstand the cooler temps. No need to worry about that. Though you might be cold wandering around mostly naked,” she said with a snicker. “And I’m aware thongs are uncomfortable. But now I’m wondering when and why you were ever wearing one.”
He winked. “I’ll tell you when I win the bet. Now, if I win, you have to agree to attend my sister’s wedding as my fiancée and give me a two-hour body massage. We’ll both be completely naked.”
She blinked at him. “You can’t be serious. Why would you want me to pretend to be your fiancée?”
“Who said anything about pretending?” he said with a grin. “What do you say?”
Her head screamed at her to say no. This was a crazy bet that was bound to trample her heart one way or another. She’d given up on men like Brian who said things they didn’t mean and messed with her head. But she had never been one for going the safe route. And everything inside of her craved Brian Knox. She couldn’t say no. Her mouth wouldn’t let her. Besides, there was no way he was going to stay interested after six weeks. They never did. Knowing it was a mistake and not caring in the least, she held her hand out and said, “It’s a bet.”
