“Did you do that?”
They both shook their heads. She looked at Mary and Rebecca and they shrugged also. Confused she turned back to the rows of angels. Jeriah had made his way to stand in front of his heavenly brothers.
“You all sicken me. You’re all high and mighty. You think that I won’t have the last laugh? Ha! I will.”
There was laughter behind him, and he turned angrily to see where it was coming from. Lucifer walked from the midst of the group of demons with a sinister smirk. The Guardians were now on even more alert and gripped their swords tighter.
“Easy now my brothers, I don’t want to kill any of you.”
The way he smiled said otherwise. Lucifer stepped up close to Jeriah and tilted his head.
“Looks like your plan didn’t work.”
Jeriah’s brow scrunched. “What do you mean?”
Lucifer look over at Denise and the group and smiled.
“Looks like your ‘wife’ has chosen another.” His voice was childlike as he cackled loudly.
Jeriah’s head snapped over and saw the glow around Logan and his eyes widened.
“NO! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!”
Lucifer’s laugh trailed off as he smiled at Jeriah.
“Thank you for helping me get to this point. I’m sorry to say that there really isn’t a need for you anymore.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
“Well, you wanted my help to get the girl, but the girl has made her choice. I wanted a war and that’s what I have. I kind of don’t need you anymore.”
Jeriah’s face was a mask of anger. He looked over at Lucifer who was smiling and then back toward Denise. She stood there looking on innocently as if this wasn’t all her fault. He let out a loud growling scream before his wings came bursting from the back of his clothes as he ran toward Denise. He could hear Lucifer laughing in the background, which made him even more angry. The two warlocks tried to stand in front of Denise, but with one flap of his wings, they went flying. Denise’s feet dug into the ground as she pushed against the wind that Jeriah was causing. He jumped in the air and came down at her with all his might. Denise opened her arms and let her power flow freely, and he screamed as the light started to burn him. His feathers erupted into flames as his body crashed to the ground. He was in the fetal position as Denise stood over top of him. He tried one last time to make a grab at her, but she opened her palm and finished him off. Lucifer’s cackle rose loudly in the silence that followed as he started clapping his hands. He tuned back to the Guardians who watched in awe.
“Now. Where were we?” He took in their faces and grunted. “Jeriah is fine. I’ll see him when I get home.” He looked around and breathed out a heavy breath. “Who wants to start this?”
No one moved and Lucifer rolled his eyes. “Fine. I’ll start.”
His hand shot out and one of the Guardians disintegrated. Lucifer’s top lip was turned up in a sneer.
“Who’s next?”

Denise and her group looked on in horror as the only thing left of the Guardian was a couple of feathers. Lucifer turned around and his dark hair shined in the fading sunlight. He’d be beautiful if it weren’t for the pure evil he emanated. His mouth raised in a smirk, and he gave a short nod to the demons that had gathered nearby. There was a shout and then chaos ensued. The demons shed their human likeness and grew into massive beasts. They ran straight for the Guardians, and Denise and her crew had no choice but to run toward them. Swords pierced flesh and screams of pain were heard all around. Fireworks lit up the sky to announce the beginning of the festival, and cheers were heard from the humans that gathered. The group minus Denise were up late putting together spells and potions to counter the different demons. Denise made sure to check in with her father before the battle began. Assan had still not been granted a leave from Heaven, and Denise was worried that things wouldn’t turn out in their favor without any help. She couldn’t think about that now as she felt her powers surge and her wings sprouted from her back and she unleashed the power within her as he made contact with her first demon. The light that erupted from her was enough to kill him on impact. She looked over at Marcus as he slashed and danced around each demon, sending them back to hell. Rebecca and Mary stood back-to- back as they conjured their power and used their potions. As a demon got close to Mary, her eyes widened as a light erupted from her hands. She looked at them in wonder. She had not known the particulars of her powers that she received from Denise after Denise received her powers. Denise smiled and winked at her as she continued to battle.
Logan was wielding his sword masterfully. He was covered in blood, but he didn’t care. One of the larger demons attacked him as another one tripped him. His eyes widened as the larger demon’s foot started to come down over top of him. He felt a burning in his chest and the demon flew backwards and crashed into the barrier that held them all in. He looked at his chest astonished. His amulet was glowing. Its blue tint was now dark green, and he felt power coursing through his body. He didn’t know what was happening because he’d never felt like this before. He rolled his hands in a circle, and a light shone in the middle he aimed the light toward a demon that was running after Denise, and the light shot out and the hit the demon square in the head. Denise turned to look over her shoulder and looked at where Logan was still sitting on the ground. He shrugged and she shook her head. More and more demons were showing up and they, including the Guardians were growing tired. Just as they prepared for another round of fighting, a bright light shined down in the middle of the field. Assan stood there proudly with his large golden wings on full display. His face was hard as he stared down the demons that were running toward the group. He was holding a large sword, and as he swung it, it was as if a lightning bolt shot out and the demons were no more. More and more angels with golden wings appeared next to Assan, and the demons stopped in their tracks. Lucifer who stood back and watched as his beloved demons attacked was now in fear. He quickly called for a retreat and caused a massive hole to open in the ground. The demons ran as fast as they could through the hole, followed by Lucifer.
“This isn’t over,” Lucifer growled as he disappeared.
“We have to seal this opening,” Marcus told everyone.
“I can help with that.” An unfamiliar voice rang from behind them.
They turned and saw a small figure walking toward them with a long cape that had a hood covering their face. They carried a large staff like a walking stick. They all looked at this person with apprehension. When the person pulled the cape down from their head, a beautiful dark-haired woman stood before them.
“Who are you?” Denise asked.
“My name is Ingrid, and I am a wizard.”

They were all in shock. Marcus’s skeptic eyes grew dark as he approached her.
“What is your reason for being here?”
She took a step back and looked around at the serious faces. Everyone was covered in something—whether it be blood or dirt—and looked ready to fight. She put her free hand up in surrender as she looked around.
“I don’t want any trouble. I’m just here looking for him.”
She pointed at Logan, and he looked at her confused.
“Me? Why?”
“Can we close this portal, and then I promise that I’ll tell you everything.”
“We don’t know how to close it.” Logan told her.
“I do. My dad showed me before he died. I just need another wizard to help me.”
Logan stepped forward apprehensively. She put her hand out and looked down at it.
“I need your hand.”
Logan nervously placed his hand in hers, and she closed her eyes and pointed her staff toward the portal. Her mouth moved, but no words were heard. The end of the staff started to glow a bright green and then the light disappeared. Logan could feel the magic pulling from his body and he gasped. He’s never understood or felt his wizard powers before tonight
, but it felt right.
“Done.”
She smiled but the group did not smile back. Her smile dropped and she let go of Logan’s hand. Denise saw the way that Logan looked at the newcomer and she narrowed her eyes. Before she said something that she couldn’t take back, she turned toward her father. A smile lit up her face as she ran over and hugged him. His wings were put away, and he looked like a regular man.
“I’m so glad that you’re here. I didn’t think that you’d be able to come.”
“God knew that you needed me. Daughter, there is so much more that you are going to have to do. I am sorry for the burden that being my daughter is going to entail.”
“What do you mean? What’s happening?”
“That girl over there will need your help.”
“With what?”
“You are a protector now, and this world needs you.”
“What! Wait.”
“I’m sorry. I cannot stay. I have to return. You know where to find me.”
He kissed her forehead, and one by one, the angels disappeared. The Guardian Brahm walked over and knelt down in front of Denise.
“I am your sword whenever you need.”
And with a smile, he too disappeared.
Denise turned and looked at the group. The field was clear of all demons and angels alike. She took in this newcomer and eyed her sharply. Help her? The way that she’s fawning all over Logan and I’m supposed to help her? Yeah, we’ll see.
The Wizards Curse
INGRID
Ingrid was born 82 years ago in the middle of a blizzard. Her mom struggled and pushed but never got the chance to see the daughter that she carried. The only reason that Ingrid was alive was because her father cut her from her mother’s womb. She grew up sheltered and never had a traditional childhood. Her father was very particular in who could be around. She’s always known that he was a wizard, and she thought him cruel that he kept making her learn so much at a young age. She thought her father to be crazy because he stayed in their basement working on potions and magic. Always talking to himself and pacing. He became more and more frustrated each year. When she turned 10, her father became sick. On his deathbed, he confessed a horrible secret. His death was imminent because before she was born, he had been cursed. He killed a fellow wizard, and she cursed him and his seeds. She must find this wizard’s son and beg him to release the curse on her, or she too is destined to die.
