Epilogue
The very next day, Bailey and Max located Joby’s case worker. After a home study and training, Bailey hoped to become Joby’s foster mother. When Max and Bailey are married, they both plan to adopt Joby. It took some convincing, but once Joby understood that their plan was real, she fell happily into their arms.
Bailey was pleased when the perfect moment presented itself to ask Dedra and Magnolia to be in her wedding. They both said a resounding yes. Their joyful replies were soon baptized in hugs and more tears. The Walker-Sumner wedding was scheduled for early May in a private rose garden in Houston. The guest list continued to grow.
Dedra invited Adam Kale to church, and after two Sundays, Adam asked Dedra to attend an art show with him at one of the local galleries. Since Adam was an art history professor at one of the universities, Dedra and Adam found they had much in common. Six weeks later they were engaged to be married.
Vlad Tepes was declared insane by the court and sentenced to a psychiatric facility for an indeterminate amount of time. As Vlad’s mental health improved, he changed his name back to Charlie Ware.
Bailey sold The Penumbra Ruby to a local investor for 1.3 million dollars. A portion of the money went to her local church and a women’s shelter, some of the money was invested wisely for the future, and the rest was put aside for Joby’s college education.
The cellar as well as the passage in Bailey’s bedroom closet will become part of a television documentary, entitled Prohibition—The Hidden Stories of Vice, Valor, and Victims.
