by Ford, Mia
I slide my eyes closed and let this wash over me, imagining the future more than anything else. The wedding is just a tiny part of what comes next and I can’t wait for it. The fairy tale ending to our crazy romance.
“Okay, you’re right. I just need to focus on him, nothing else. That will help me.”
I suck in a couple of deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. I don’t want to be a mess on one of the most important days of my life. I want to be as ethereal as my appearance suggests.
“Your dad will be here in a moment, to walk you down the aisle.” I laugh as Nadine says this, it’s something that I never thought could happen. I can barely believe it. “Are you ready for him?”
“I sure am. I can’t wait to see him actually. I can’t wait for him to see my dress.”
“Oh, I bet he’s going to love it. He might even cry when he sees you.”
“I don’t know about that, but we’ll soon see when he turns up to drag me down the aisle.”
Having my father’s blessing and love on my wedding day makes it a lot better. And having Reece’s parents around is great too. I wasn’t sure that I was doing the right thing by contacting them behind his back, but I knew that it was something which needed to be resolved and I just wanted to help. Thank goodness I did, because ever since they moved back to America, they have become a big part of our lives. It’s great, because we now have a lot of parental help as well as Nadine, so we can have time alone when we need it.
“Good, I’m glad you want to see him. Okay, because I don’t know how I would have turned him away,” Nadine giggles. “Even if he’s a bit softer now, he’s still one of the scariest men I have ever met in my life.”
“Try growing up with him! It was a nightmare. I couldn’t get away with anything. I was always in trouble.”
But I can say that with a happiness now, because I know that he only ever really had my best interests at heart. Now that we’re closer and I’ve grown up enough to understand him, it’s all good. We’ve come to a wonderful place, and things just keep getting better every single day.
“Hello, Alexa,” Dad calls through the door, almost as if we’ve summoned him up. “Can I come in?”
“I’m decent, I’m ready. You can come in.”
The door flies apart and Dad clutches his hand to his chest as he sees me. “Oh wow!”
“Do I look okay? I’m nervous that the dress doesn’t look as nice as it did in the store…”
“Oh, don’t be crazy, Alexa, it looks beautiful. Your mother would be so proud of you.”
He still doesn’t talk about Mom much, he never has done, but recently, every so often he will make little remarks like this which tip me over the edge. Tears fill my eyes, I can’t stop the emotion from getting to me.
“Thank you for saying that, Dad. That means a lot to me.”
He puts his hand on his hip and indicates for me to link his arm, which I do. “Come on, let’s go.”
Nadine goes ahead of me and she enters the hall where me and Reece are getting married. The music starts playing and my heart skips about a million beats. The nerves are even more powerful now, I don’t know if I can handle it. I feel all weird. In a good way, but also like I could pass out at any moment.
“Are you okay?” Dad whispers to me. “Because if you’re thinking about running, I have the car…”
I give him a look and he laughs, proving that he’s only joking. “Sure, Dad, let’s drive off and leave my kids here. That’s a good plan. I think it might be a bit late for cold feet, don’t you?”
“Yeah, you’re probably right about that one. I don’t think Reece would let you go either.”
He’s definitely right about that one. Reece has wanted to get married ever since he asked me. I have only put it off until we’ve been in a good place to actually organize things properly. Having a baby is all consuming and I couldn’t imagine even thinking about anything else then. Then we went back to work and we had to juggle all of that too, but finally, we just about made the time, and the timing feels right.
“No, he wouldn’t. He’s too keen to tie the knot for that.”
“Well, he’s a very lucky man.” Dad nudges me in the side. “But I think that you are lucky too.”
“You do?” I look up at Dad and grin. “That’s nice to hear.”
“Well, he is a really good man, isn’t he? And he does make you very happy.”
I roll my eyes and chuckle. “I did try to tell you that, Dad.”
“I know, I know… but as you know, listening hasn’t always been my strong point… but we aren’t here to criticize me right now, are we? So, let’s do what we came here for and get you married.”
My chest swells with sheer joy as the door opens and I spot him waiting for me at the end of the aisle with his best man, Cory. He looks so handsome, so wonderful, and soon he’s about to be all mine…
* * *
“Hello, wifey,” Reece says with a smile as we slow dance for the very first time since the wedding ceremony. “You look absolutely beautiful today. More stunning than I have ever seen in my life. When you came through those doors, I thought that my heart was going to explode with love. I was so happy.”
“Well, you don’t look too bad yourself. I like this suit on you. Husband…”
Ooh that word sends a shiver racing up and down my spine. Husband. It’s such a grown up, committed word, but it makes him all mine. Forever more. I really am so freaking lucky.
“This wedding is amazing, isn’t it? We did a good job.”
“We did.” I bite down on my bottom lip, trying to stop myself from exploding. “Reece, I have something to tell you. I was going to wait until we’re on our way to our honeymoon, but…”
“What is it?” He gets a worried look, but only for a second.
I’m not too worried about sharing any news with him anymore, because we’ve been through the worst together and pulled out the other side. Me and him can get through anything.
“So… this morning, I did a test…”
“A test? Today? What sort of test?”
My heart flutters like it’s consumed with butterflies. These words are huge. Scary, in a way, but wonderful too. “A pregnancy test.”
He stills, stopping the dance completely, and he widens his eyes at me. For a split second, I wonder if I should have waited because this still might be news that he finds hard to digest. Sometimes, we’re doing so well that I forget everything he’s been through to get to where he is today.
“We’re having another baby?” Relief floods me as he explodes in to happiness. “Are you serious?”
I nod and laugh, glee flooding me, and he pulls me in for the tightest hug ever.
“That’s amazing. That’s absolutely incredible. I am so happy about that.”
All of a sudden, we’re surrounded by family who are full of the news. I guess Reece yelled that then, so everyone heard them. As Oliver jumps in to my arms and Florence holds out her hands to her father, so we can all be together to share in this amazing news, I want to cry with joy. Our family keeps growing, keeps getting stronger every single day, I really have it all.
A husband who I adore, who I have the most powerful chemistry with in the world, even now after all this time. Kids, who I also love more than anything with another one on the way, and parents who support everything we do. Who will be there for us no matter what.
If this isn’t the most beautiful happy ever after to the most unexpected love story to ever cross my path, then I don’t know what is.
I hope you enjoyed your time with Alexa and Reece! If you loved this one, you would not want to miss my latest Boxed Set, BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS which is a collection of 3 of my HOT Selling FULL LENGTH Novels. I have included an excerpt from the same in the following pages. So, keep reading!
