Chapter 7

  Home

Days later, back in Farbank, Gluic tucked Thorik and Brimmelle into their beds to rest their weary bodies from their travels and hardships. Each received a sympathetic hand to their foreheads before she left their individual rooms.

Returning to the main room of her home, she picked up Thorik’s leather backpack and set it on her table. The stitching was just as she had taught her daughter to do in order to ensure it would last for ages.

Opening the pack, she reached in and pulled out the sack of Runestones before untying the string on top and opening it wide for viewing. Peering in, the hexagonal stones had colored crystals in the center, while most had various colored gems at the corners. Arching stone ridges filled the surface area in their own unique pattern. Each was a symbol with its own meaning.

Reaching down into the sack, she signed with relief. “These are good stones. Full of energy, and stories, and life.” A smile grew on her face as the center crystal of each and every Runestone began to glow, filling the room with beams of light. A sense of calmness filled her body.

Moving one hand deeper within the sack, she searched for a specific one toward the bottom. Once found, Gluic pulled it from the rest, causing the room to go dark except from the light emanating from the stone she held before her.

This specific Runestone had a center crystal not of a single color like the others, but instead it had a range of colors within it. The various colors pulsed brighter at ever-changing frequencies as the elder Num gazed into its light. “Ah, there you are, my daughter. Welcome home.” The crystal grew more intense and the room filled with light once again. “Yes, dear. I will look after your son. He has an amazing adventure before him that will make you proud.”
