Another orgasm crashed through her weakened body and she tried to cry out but she had nothing left to give. It felt like the moon was lighting her way into the darkness and she could feel the spirits of her ancestors saying their goodbyes to her as she slipped away.
Caleb felt the moment her heart stopped beating and released his fangs. He looked down at her lifeless body in his arms and shed a tear for what he had lost in that moment. What she had lost of herself. Then he moved her within his arms and cradled her against him. He would hold her until she awoke.
Verity strolled into the house and placed her daughter down into the crib. Sleeping once more; she felt the rush of love for the child that wasn’t meant to be and yet meant everything to her. Her eyes snapped up as Wendy walked into the room and took in the scene.
“Maybe one day we can figure out a way to get you one of these without the whole dark entity thing.” Verity grinned. Wendy shook her head.
“No thanks, I’ll pass. I’ve got enough on my hands with the two we already have.” She looked over her shoulder at the witches gathered around the sofa cooing at the new arrival that Eloise was cradling in her arms.
Nothing had changed much over the last six months. Apart from the fact that Wendy was now a vampire and Annabeth was leading the coven with her guidance… continual guidance, and sometimes even in the early hours of the morning when Wendy would much rather have been doing other things with Caleb. Each witch had felt the moment that Wendy had slipped from the world and her magic had left the coven but none of them had changed in their attitude towards her.
Caleb strolled in and walked towards the little bundle within Eloise arms with the fire red hair like her mother and the cutest smile he’d ever seen on a child. Some said it was wind, but he knew better. That pup was smiling at him knowingly.
“I’m gonna be a good aunty…” Annabeth beamed out as she cooed over the child.
“Cos you don’t want your butt fried…” Deborah chuckled.
“There’s enough of it not to miss…” Samantha giggled as Annabeth raised her eyebrows high on her head and looked down her nose at the witch.
“It’s called being five months pregnant, which you’ll find out all about in two months time, thank you very much, Samantha.” Annabeth sneered back across the way.
“Deborah’s not that far behind you and her butt is just fine.” Tilly offered with a smirk.
“You can’t talk, you waddle when you walk, Tilly.” Annabeth snapped back.
Wendy watched her brood with pride. She wasn’t sorry that her and Caleb couldn’t have children of their own, and she wasn’t the least tempted to go down the route that had made Verity pregnant, because that would be something dark and they’d all had enough darkness in their lives to invite more in. She wasn’t sorry that she’d chosen to become a vampire either. With Tilly having joined the coven that still made six very powerful witches.
“So does she still have magic?” Caleb asked as he reached down with just one finger for the child to wrap her hand around. Her index finger pointed towards his and she slowly stretched up to touch him. There was a spark between them and Caleb chuckled at the slight sting.
“Well you did ask.” Eloise offered with a smirk and a chuckle to boot. Caleb grinned down at the babe in arms. Another little person that he’d added to his list of people that he would die to protect, and what with all of the other witches pregnant that list was only going to grow. Caleb had never been happier in his life before, or his death…
