“Uh… Do you know about our student gathering?”

“Student gathering?” Asked Tang Hao with a frown before shaking his head. “I didn’t hear anything about it. Actually, I’m not really in contact with those classmates from junior high.”

“I know. You’re not even in the group. That’s why I’m asking you now. Recently, the class monitor has been organizing a student gathering. We’ve graduated three years ago, so it’s about time for us to meet up.”

Ma Fangfang said as she looked at Tang Hao expectantly. “What do you think? Are you coming? If you’re coming, I can help you to inform the class monitor.”

Tang Hao’s eyebrows were tightly knitted together as he contemplated the idea.

He was never a fan of student gatherings like these. When he was a Year 1 Junior, he was not an outstanding student in his class. Although his results were above average, few people looked up to him because he was a poor brat from the village in the mountains.

Therefore, he never participated in any of the student gatherings after graduating from junior high.

Initially, he wanted to turn her down. However, after further contemplation, he thought it was apt for him to make this trip after three years. He might not have had a lot of friends in class back then, but there were still a few of them that he could count on. He had no idea what was going on with them now.

  “Who’s going?” Asked Tang Hao.

“Oh! Basically, everyone should be there. They’ve all agreed to it. You’re the hardest one to convince,” replied Ma Fangfang with a smile.

“Is that so? Alright, I’ll go!” Tang Hao nodded.

“That’s great!” Ma Fangfang clenched her fists in excitement and said, “I’ll let the class monitor know later. Oh right, the time is tomorrow night. The venue will be the East Shining Restaurant in the city center. Everyone will have to bring two hundred bucks each.”

“What’s your phone number? I’ll save your contact so it’ll be easier for me to contact you in the future.”

As she said that, Ma Fangfang walked up to Tang Hao and they exchanged numbers.

  Chapter 69 - Little People

The student reunion awakened Tang Hao’s memories of when he was still in junior high school.

In reality, if he thought about it now, there was nothing much worth remembering. He acted according to the convention, and apart from learning and studying, he was studying and learning. He did nothing special back then.

At that time, other than his slightly above average grades, there was nothing else special about him. He was also looked down upon by many students because he was just a poor boy from a mountain village.

A few even mocked him for the way he dressed.

As for the ladies, none of them even spared him a second glance.

Hence, Tang Hao disliked these student reunions. If it were not because of a couple of good friends he wanted to meet, he would not have agreed to come.

On the evening of the next day, he went to the East Shining Restaurant located in the city center.

The East Shining Restaurant was much lower in terms of standard when compared to Beyond Heaven Restaurant. However, it was suitable for normal civilians. Holding a class reunion in this place would cost around two hundred Yuan per head, which was considered inexpensive.

He dressed himself up like usual; he had on a white shirt on and a pair of jeans. It was a simple attire.

When he arrived at the restaurant, he saw two figures standing at the entrance. It was a boy and a girl, and they looked like they were around seventeen or eighteen years of age.

Upon closer inspection, Tang Hao instantly recognized them. The boy’s name was Liu Xiaolong, and he was their class monitor. As for the girl, her name was Wu Danli, and she was a former member of the student committee.

He had not seen them in three years, and the two of them had changed their appearance drastically, especially Wu Danli, who used to look mediocre in his opinion. Now, she was a whole different person and was much more beautiful than before.

When they saw Tang Hao walking toward them, the two exchanged glances whilst looking startled.

After looking up and down for a while, Wu Danli exclaimed suddenly, “Are you Tang Hao?”

Tang Hao smiled and gave them a wave.

Wu Danli’s eyes opened wide in bewilderment as she looked at Tang Hao incredulously. After all, the person in front of her was so different from the Tang Hao she remembered.

There were no differences in the way he dressed, but it was clear that his appearance and temperament had totally changed.

“You really are Tang Hao! I couldn’t recognize you!” Wu Danli walked up to him and then circled Tang Hao with an astonished look.

“Tang Hao, you actually came!” Liu Xiaolong walked up and greeted him warmly.

“Right, how’d you do on your examination? Based on your previous grades, it should be good!” Liu Xiaolong continued.

Tang Hao shook his head, “I didn’t take it; I stopped going to school long ago.”

In a split second, Liu Xiaolong and Wu Danli were both lost for words. A spell of awkward silence followed it.

They did not inquire further as they knew about Tang Hao’s family situation. Hence, they figured that Tang Hao had stopped going to school due to financial issues.

“That’s too bad!” Liu Xiaolong blurted out.

Then, he patted Tang Hao’s shoulder and said, “C’mon, let’s go in! They’re in room 409. About half of them have arrived.”

Tang Hao took out two hundred Yuan and gave it to him before he headed upstairs.

When he arrived at room 409, he saw a large room where many people had already gathered. There were about twenty to thirty people, and some of them were seated. A few of them were in groups of twos and threes.

At first glance, he spotted many familiar faces in the room.

Tang Hao’s arrival attracted quite a lot of attention, and everyone turned to look at him. However, after recognizing him, the warm reaction quickly turned cold.

Tang Hao was just a poor boy from a mountain village; he was barely visible when he was in the classroom before, so not many people were interested in interacting with him.

  “Yo! Isn’t that Tang Hao!”

At that moment, a loud and clear voice could be heard from the side.

When he turned his head, he saw a slightly plump young boy wearing gold-rimmed glasses walking over. Although he had a smile on his face, he was clearly smiling sarcastically.

The boy’s name was Luo Wei, and he was someone Tang Hao disliked. He was notoriously hypocritical and loved to brag. He was also known as a poser.

Luo Wei’s family’s financial situation was good and he could be considered wealthy. Thus, he was born with a sense of superiority toward a poor lad like Tang Hao. When they were in school, he directed his fair share of jokes at Tang Hao.

As for his grades, he did alright, but he was ranked continuously below Tang Hao, which always made him feel inferior to the latter.

“Yo! You’re still the same as before! Dressing up so… uniquely!”

Luo Wei walked in front of Tang Hao and examined him from head to toe. The tone he used was somewhat condescending, not forgetting the disgusted look on his face. It was as if he was pleased with how Tang Hoe’s life was going.

Tang Hao frowned as his expression turned cold, yet he remained unperturbed.

“Tang Hao, how’d you do on your exam, which university are you going to?” Luo Wei continued to ask.

Tang Hao replied him with a cold expression, “I didn’t take the exam. I stopped going to school a while ago.”

Luo Wei was stunned, and subsequently, a cheerful look flashed across his eyes.

He pretended to sigh and said, “Sigh! That’s too bad! With your grades, it’s a pity that you’re not going to attend college.

“But this is good for you as well. College fees are quite expensive, so it would have been hard for you to bear. It’s good
that you chose to get a head start in entering society, that way you can earn some money.”

He had turned up his volume on purpose, and everyone in the room heard what he said.

Instantly, there was a subtle change in everyone’s expression.

Although Tang Hao came from a low-income family, he still had good grades. So, his future was still bright. If he managed to get into a good university, there would be prospects for him in the future. Now that he had decided to skip college, they suspected that his life was well and truly ruined.

The only thing he could do now was work odd jobs, and there was nothing more to expect from him.

“Right, what kind of work are you doing now?” Luo Wei asked again.

“I’m not working!” Tang Hao answered him coldly.

“Oh! You’re not working!” Luo Wei dragged his intonation, his face filled with ridicule.

At this moment, he felt a surge of satisfaction rushing from inside him. He was always beaten by this jerk in terms of grades, and it had consistently made him feel inferior. Today, it felt like he had blown off some steam.

This guy was not even going to go to college. As for him, he was one class above him after being accepted into the national key university. The future for him was bright.

“Tang Hao, I bet you didn’t know, I got into the national key university! Who would’ve thought!” Luo Wei said in a flaunting manner.

“Is that so?” Tang Hao replied him with the same icy tone.

Then, he proceeded to glance around the room and said, “Sorry, I have to excuse myself!” Afterward, he immediately left.

Luo Wei’s expression stiffened and he became slightly gloomy. He murmured coldly, “Humph! What’s he trying to pull here? He’s just a deadbeat loser anyway, a bum that’ll never escape his fate in this lifetime.”

Tang Hao heard what he said and stopped in his tracks. However, he continued to walk forward.

At the dining table in front of him, a tall, thin boy stood up and greeted him warmly, “Hao’zi, long time no see!”

“Li Fei!” Tang Hao opened up his hands and hugged him.

The young lad’s name was Li Fei. He was one of Tang Hao’s few friends in junior high school.

“Luo Wei’s just one of those little people. Don’t mind what he said! Speaking of which, why did you stop going to school? It’s such a pity!” Li Fei said with a regretful look on his face.

“I have no talent in studying, so I couldn’t even get into senior high school. But you were different, Hao’zi. You had such good grades!”

Tang Hao laughed it off, “It’s fine. I’m living well nowadays anyway. Right, how are you doing?”

Li Fei immediately frowned whilst shaking his head, “My situation’s hard to describe with words!”

  “What’s wrong?”

  Tang Hao hurriedly asked.

Li Fei sighed and was about to speak up. However, his eyes inadvertently glanced toward the entrance, and he froze on the spot.

  Chapter 70 - Shocked

Tang Hao looked over and saw two people walking through the door.

The one on the left was a tall, handsome young man with a brand-name suit. His appearance was extra-ordinary, while the one on the right was a tall girl that had on heavy makeup and was fashioning some very revealing attire.

The two were holding hands as they walked in.

In a split second, every head in the room turned their heads and created a commotion. Many of them stood up and enthusiastically walked up to greet the young man.

Tang Hao’s facial expression changed slightly. The young man’s name was Liu Jiawei. His appearance did not just stand out, he was the most handsome boy in the class. He had a superior family background and was the typical rich kid from an aristocratic family.

He was an influential figure in the school.

However, Liu Jiawei was not the one on Tang Hao’s mind, it was the girl by his side. Her name was Zhao Li. If he remembered correctly, in the third year of junior high, Zhao Li and Li Fei used to be a couple.

Tang Hao looked at Li Fei in shock.

Li Fei’s eyes looked bleak as he shook his head and said, “You didn’t know that the two of us split a while ago. I’m just a poor guy, how could I fight against a rich lad like him!”

“What’s more frustrating is that I’m now working in Liu Jiawei’s factory. He could even be considered my boss.”

With that, Li Fei sighed, and his face turned gloomy.

Tang Hao was silent for a while and did not know what else to say. These types of situations were too common.

The commotion continued for a while. The people were surrounding Liu Jiawei and chatted with him eagerly, particularly the girls, who were looking at him with a tremendous amount of admiration.

Liu Jiawei was born handsome and rich, so he was indeed the perfect boyfriend in the minds of many girls.

It took a while for the crowd to disperse.

Meanwhile, Tang Hao and Li Fei sat in the corner and continued their chat.

There was a lot of clamor in the room. Some of them were in high-spirits, bragging, and flaunting their achievements in grades and working life. A few of them were starting to lose interest and just sat around in silence.

Those that were filled with enthusiasm were the ones that ended up finding a good job or had gotten into a good university; they had the attitude of a successful person.

After a short while, someone suddenly came in through the door. The person had a graceful womanly physique and a beautiful appearance. It was Ma Fangfang.

She wore a black one-piece dress, revealing her slender and graceful figure. It made her look sexy and charming. She styled it with a pair of heels that elongated her legs even more as she leisurely walked over.

As soon as she appeared, the whole room was in an uproar again. The eyes of all the boys focused on her body.

  “Fangfang, you’re here!”

In junior high school, Ma Fangfang was a famous beauty. She was sexy, fashionable, and was the dream girl of many boys in the class.

“Fangfang, I’ve been waiting for you for so long. Come! Sit over here!”

Luo Wei also walked over with an attentive look on his face. Amidst the clamor, his eyes were secretly aimed at her delicate and embossed body; one could see his gaze become increasingly heaty by the second.

“Fangfang, sit over here!” Several other bolder boys shouted.

“Fangfang, come here!” All of a sudden, Liu Jiawei stood up and shouted.

As soon as he uttered those unexpected words, many people stunned as they turned around to look at him before subsequently turning their heads to look at Zhao Li, who was beside him.

Zhao Li’s facial expression changed slightly, and she appeared a little uncomfortable, but she did not utter a single word.

Li Fei was the one getting perturbed upon watching the scene, “Hao’zi, I’m not the one that said this, but don’t judge Liu Jiawei just by his dignified looks. In reality, he’s a pervert. I heard that when he was in senior high, he had a couple of girlfriends, and he’d even date a few at one go.”

  “He’s scum. A bastard!”

Li Fei was growing more furious by the second.

When Liu Jiawei opened his mouth, Luo Wei’s expression changed as well. He felt that he could never compete with Liu Jiawei in his current state.

However, a glance to his side made him relieved to see that Liu Jiawei was still sitting next to Zhao Li!

“Fangfang, sit beside me!” Luo Wei leaned forward and said eagerly.

Ma Fangfang merely gave him a dim glance and smiled politely. Then, the pupil of her eyes started scanning the room. When she saw Tang Hao sitting in the corner, she suddenly smiled and walked straight toward him.

Luo Wei froze on the spot, and his face turned slightly distorted.

Liu Jiawei’s gaze sank as well.

The others had gotten curious, and as they looked at the direction she was walking toward, they noticed s
he was heading to Tang Hao’s table.

Only two people were sitting at that table; just Tang Hao and Li Fei.

The two of them were notorious for being the poor kids. Thus, the others naturally thought that Ma Fangfang was not going there because of them. She probably saw that the table was emptier than the rest, hence she had chosen to sit there.

All at once, a lot of the boys began to think of changing their seats and stood up.

However, they soon saw Ma Fangfang walk straight to Tang Hao’s side.

  “Tang Hao, you came early!”

Ma Fangfang had a massive grin on her face as she sat down naturally. The expression she had on was somewhat intimate.

At that moment, all the restless boys who were about to move were shocked. It was as if they had been struck by lightning, which left their body stunned.

The girls were in a daze as well and carried an expression of disbelief on their faces.

  Were their eyes deceiving them?

A beautiful woman such as Ma Fangfang had actually walked straight to Tang Hao’s side, and judging by their faces, they appeared to be quite friendly with each other!

That Tang Hao was just a poor kid from a mountain village, one that did not try to get into any colleges and someone that had no future at all. Even an average girl would not bat an eyelid toward such a person, let alone a beauty like Ma Fangfang!

What… in the world was going on here?

No one could figure it out for quite some time.

Liu Jiawei stood there as his expression turned dark, but he said nothing and sat back down.

As for Luo Wei, he froze on the same spot and watched the two chatting intimately. His complexion gradually turned green, and his face became even more distorted.

‘What the hell is going on!’

He shouted wildly in his head.

In what way was Tang Hao better than him? His family background was far superior, and he was enrolled in a national key university with a promising future ahead. Tang Hao was just a poor loser and a piece of trash.
