  “That’ll do it,” Zax said.

Ruby paused before she spoke again. She was already pretty sure of the answer, but she needed to have it confirmed. Men could get away with all kinds of things due to women’s desire to fill in the blanks with favorable assumptions. “You’re not married, I assume?”

Zax raised his eyebrows. “Is this still business, or are we transitioning into pleasure?”

“That depends greatly upon your answer.”

He leaned forward and shook his head. “Not married,” he said quietly, his deep voice rumbling through her. “Used to be, but she left a long time ago.”

Ruby pledged to learn more about that, but not now. “Girlfriend?”

  “Not in a while.”

  “Boyfriend?”

  “Not in a longer while.”

And now it was Ruby’s eyebrows that shot up toward her hairline. “Oh, this will be fun.”

  “What will?”

“Getting to know you outside of business.”

“Ah,” he said, tilting his head back. “You mean by talking.”

  She nodded.

“Then it seems you and I have different preferred methods for getting to know someone who fascinates us.”

“It seems so. But seeing as how I set up this date, I also get to set the rules.”

  “This time,” he said.

She nodded slowly. “Sure. This time.”

  About the Author

Nova Nelson grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie novels. She loves the mind candy of cozy mysteries and has been weaving paranormal tales since she first learned handwriting. Those two loves meet in her Eastwind Witches series, and it's about time, if she does say so herself.

When she's not busy writing, she enjoys long walks with her strong-willed dogs and eating breakfast for dinner.
