I quickly pulled on some clothes and got Brent into the car, driving above the speed limit to get him there before he gave birth in the car.

“I will not give birth in this car, Jarrett!” he shouted as we turned off to the hospital, breathing heavily, his brow covered in sweat. “I swear to fucking Christ if you make me give birth in this car I will cut your cock off and this will never happen again!”

“If you cut my cock off, there’s no way I’d be able to fuck you like that again,” I said, pulling into the hospital car park.

He considered this, still breathing heavily, but actually being quiet for the first time since we got in the car. “Fine you can keep your cock but, I don’t know, I’ll lock it up or something!”

“We’ll iron out the finer details when we’ve got the babies out of you huh?” I said, trying to keep my tone light and not fear for the future of my penis.

Brent was incredible as he gave birth, he truly was. I’d never seen it happen before, so was fascinated. Even more so when I found out he wasn’t having any drugs to help with the pain, which I suppose explained why he was freaking out so much on the way here. I mean, I’d be freaking out if I was giving birth while I was high as a kite, I couldn’t imagine how stressful it was when you’d said no to drugs.

But what we had at the end of it were Emmett and Easton, twin boys, the two newest Ewen brothers. My brothers arrived soon after and offered us their congratulations and Tate brought Jonica and Emery along, who couldn’t wait to hold them. She was slightly concerned about her Papa being all sweaty and tired looking and me constantly crying every time I even looked at one of the babies, but she was very happy to be a big sister. And I was happy to have my whole family around me.

I might have missed out on all eight years of Emery’s life so far but there was no way on this planet I was going anywhere. I wasn’t going to miss a damn moment of this if I could help it. This was all I had ever wanted, a family. I’d found my fated mate (more by luck than judgment) and managed to start a family with him. What more could I possibly ask for?

  Epilogue

  Brent

The summer air was hot and thick, even as night fell, but the sky was clear as anything, the stars twinkling brightly alongside a full moon. I could hardly believe we had made it this far, that soon we would be bonded for life and I would get to run with Jarrett and his pack.

We were at The Lodge, a little community building on the outskirts of town, where the light pollution was lessened and we could have a party. We’d been planning this for a couple of months now, though I got the impression that Jarrett has been planning this day for most of his life.

I was nervous. In fact, nervous didn’t even begin to cover it, I was absolutely terrified. I’d never run with a pack during a full moon before and this was going to be a big night for both of us. It was hard to believe that we were actually here.

I’d been at The Lodge for a couple of hours now, getting myself ready in the bridge/groom quarters separate from Jarrett. It was certainly a little bit weird because, while he had his brothers and Tate and Jonica here with him, it was only me and Emery representing my side of the family. I was being let into their pack, really, and it was a weird sort of feeling. I’d not been part of a pack since I was very small and I hardly remembered it.

That wasn’t to say I was complaining. Chasen and Slater had treated me like a brother since the talent show and I gladly called Jonica and Tate friends. Jonica actually looked after Emmett and Easton whenever Jarrett and I wanted some alone time.

I looked at myself in my suit once more. I looked smart. I looked like a man who was about to have a bonding ceremony. If I could just stop sweating long enough to enjoy it and actually look nice in the pictures, that would be fantastic.

There was a knock at the door. Tate poked his head around to look in.

“Gosh, Brent, you look fantastic,” he said. I couldn’t suppress a smile. “They’re ready for you. How are you feeling?”

“Oh my gosh, I’m so nervous I might vomit,” I said.

He laughed, which made me feel a little easier. “If it makes you feel any better, Jarrett looked a fantastic shade of green when I left him.”

I laughed too, because it actually did. At least I wasn’t the only one getting nervous about this.

As I stepped out into the main hall of The Lodge, a gorgeous barn looking building, music started to play and everyone who was there stood up and looked at me. Jarrett was already waiting at the front with his two brothers and Tate on one side, Jonica, Emmett, Easton and Emery (who had been the flower girl for the ceremony) on the other. There was a muscular looking man in the middle called Alex who would be performing the ceremony. But I still couldn’t believe this was happening to me.

“Oh wow,” Jarrett said as I reached the front. “You look fantastic,” he said, tears springing to his eyes.

“You don’t look too bad yourself,” I said which was an understatement to say the least. He was strikingly handsome in his suit, which fit him perfectly, tight in all the right places. I tried not to sexualize him too much, we had an audience and these pants were already tight.

“We’re gathered here today,” Alex growled. “To bond Jarrett Ewen and Brent Bridges together.” My heart pounded. “We are incredibly lucky to see love in this world, to see two fated mates find each other and come together, willing to be bonded for life.” He turned to Jarrett. “Jarrett,” he said. “Your vows please.”

Jarrett pulled a piece of card out of his pocket and started to speak. “Brent, we have been chasing each other around for the past eight years without even realizing it and I am so glad that we stopped running and finally found each other. You’re an incredible person, the father of our three beautiful children and I couldn’t be happier to have you in my life from not until forever.” He looked up from the card and right into my eyes. “I love you, Brent. More than anything in this world.”

“I love you too,” I sniffed, unable to stop the tears in my eyes.

  “Brent,” Alex said. “Your turn.”

“I had stuff written down on a card too but actually I don’t think there’s any point,” I said managing to compose myself through my tears. “The fact of the matter is, I love you Jarrett. I’ve always loved you, even when I didn’t know. We were bound by the universe and I am so glad that from this day on we will be bound together for life. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life loving you.”

Alex smiled and nodded to me. “Brent, please bear your neck.”

I stepped forward and tilted my head to one side, exposing my neck to Jarrett.

“This might hurt a little,” he said. “But take my hands and know that I’ve got you, okay?”

I took hold of his hands and held tight, squeezing my eyes shut. He stepped closer to me, so close I could feel his breath on my neck. He opened his mouth and bit down hard. I gasped. I tried not to scream, I tried not to make a scene or a fuss but fuck it hurt.

He stayed there until the pain subsided, holding my hands.

It eventually left and I found myself falling forward into his arms, applause erupted around us from everyone who had come to see it.

He pulled away and looked me square in the eyes, a little blood around his mouth, across his teeth.

  “Are you okay?” he asked.

  I smiled. “Never better.”

He leant forward and he kissed me. I could taste the blood in his mouth, all metallic and strange, but I didn’t care. This was it. I was his. It was all I could have possibly wanted.

It didn’t take long for the party to get into full swing. There was a cake, which we cut in front of everybody, there were photos taken outside in the moonlight and inside too. It was a beautiful night, we honestly couldn’t have asked for anything more.

As the night wore on, the time came closer for us to run with the pack for the first time. This I was incredibly excited for. I was nervous. A little bit on edge actually, enough that Jarrett noticed and pulle
d me in close on the dance floor.

“Are you okay, Brent?” he said.

“Yeah,” I said back. “Fine, just nervous, that’s all.”

“You have nothing to worry about at all,” Jarrett said. “You need to loosen up, put less pressure on yourself.”

“That’s easy for you to say,” I said. “You’ve run with a pack before, I’ve never done it. What if I suck at it?”

  Jarrett laughed, almost doubling over.

“Stop laughing, what if I’m really terrible!”

“You can’t be terrible at running with a pack, Brent, you’re being stupid,” he said. He reached over and took my hand. He started to lead me away from the dance floor. “Come on.”

“What? Why? Where are we going?” I asked as he dragged me away.

He took me out into the corridor near the chambers where we had gotten ready before the ceremony. It was dark, a little colder than it had been in the main hall, and certainly a lot quieter.

“What the hell have you brought me out here for?” I moaned. He grabbed me and pushed me up against the wall, kissing me hard on the mouth. He bit my lip and I groaned again. God I loved it when he kissed me like that, kissing me like he meant it. “Well that’s not too bad.”

“Maybe you need to blow off some steam before we run,” he whispered. “There are plenty of rooms back here we could hide in, have a private moment and then slip back to the party and nobody would be any the wiser.”

My dick was already rock solid with excitement. We needed to find a quiet room and fast because I wanted him. Just when I thought this night couldn’t get any better, we were going to consummate our bonding before we even left the building.

We moved through the corridor and back to the chamber where I had gotten dressed earlier on in the day. Quietly, we opened the door, only to hear that it sounded like there were people inside already. I was about to step back outside, not wanting to disturb them but Jarrett ushered me inside anyway, wanting to see what was going on.

But as we stepped inside we were met with a sight that I was certain Jarrett didn’t want to see.

Across one of the tables, completely naked, was Tate with Chasen stood behind him, thrusting into him and moaning loudly. They were so wrapped up in each other they didn’t even notice us standing there. Jarrett looked like he was about to pass out, or at the very least say something, so I grabbed him and pulled him from the room before he could.

He was ghostly white, staring off into the distance.

“Earth to Jarrett,” I whispered. “You still there sweetie?”

“What the fuck was that?” he hissed. “What is happening, how could this happen?”

I shushed him and grabbed him by the arm, dragging him down the corridor, not wanting Chasen and Tate to hear us talking about them. Holy shit, Chasen and Tate. Who even knew? I thought they were just friends.

“They were…um…” There wasn’t really any other way to put it than how it actually was right in front of our faces. “They were fucking, yeah.”

  “Brent!”

“What? They were, look, things like this happen at weddings,” I said. “Maybe they’re drunk, maybe it’s just a way for them to get off, I don’t know-“

“They seemed pretty into it,” Jarrett said. “My brother is fucking my best friend? How is that even possible? They’re both alphas, this doesn’t make any sense!”

Slater appeared at the opposite end of the corridor. “Guys, we’re about to start the run. Have you seen Tate and Chasen?” he asked.

Jarrett opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off. “They’re not down here,” I said. “We were looking for them too.”

“Shit,” he said. “If you find them, let them know we’re starting soon, okay?”

“Sure thing!” I said as Slater disappeared back into the main hall.

“What did you do that for?” Jarrett hissed.

“Look, if they’ve not told us, they’ve not told us for a reason, okay?” I said. “There’s no point in outing them or doing anything stupid like that. Just let it go and see what happens. Enjoy the run.”

“Eugh,” Jarrett groaned. “At what point did we switch and you became the mellow one?”

“Since you saw your brother’s bare ass fucking your best friend.”

  “Brent!”

  “Sorry!”

We followed the crowd outside and it didn’t escape my notice that Tate and Chasen were sneaking in at the back, still stood pretty close to one another. They didn’t see me watching, but they were looking at each other with a sort of adoration in their eyes that warmed my heart. I didn’t quite know what was going on there, but it looked like the beginnings of something.

The full moon peaked and, in an instant, everyone around me shifted to their wolf forms. Muscles bulged, snouts grew and suits ripped apart as people found themselves on all fours, reading to run. Jarrett and I made our way to the front, shared a knowing look and howled at the brightness of the moon. And then we ran. We ran like nothing and no one could stop us. We ran towards the moonlight.

There was nothing more annoying than having really good news and not being able to share it. It was taking every bit of me to not call Jarrett and Slater immediately to tell them but I had to keep it to myself. Today wasn’t about me. I shouldn’t make it about me. Should I? I told my brothers everything. Ever since our Dad had died and we’d been left to fend for ourselves in Furbitten Falls we’d stuck by each other’s side and supported each other through the good and the bad. Why should today be any different?

I shook it from my head. I definitely shouldn’t do it. Not now. Not today. It could wait until later on. Today was Jarrett’s bonding ceremony and it wouldn’t be right to make it all about me. But I was allowed to be excited though, wasn’t I?

My phone buzzed on my kitchen table. I quickly grabbed it and saw it was a text from Preston Scott, my second in command.

“Good luck today,” it read. “Sorry I can’t be there, I know you’ll knock her dead.”

Preston was the perfect person to have as a business associate. He was a hard worker and had been with me from a really early stage of business and knew it all inside out. He’d been gutted when another job had come up and he’d had to oversee that instead of coming with me. I would have loved to have had him there, but these things happen.

I was about to leave the house when I felt the need to check that my look was right before I did. I was dressed smartly, my dark hair was slicked back and away from my face. I’d even trimmed my beard this morning so that I looked neat and tidy, like someone you could definitely trust with a huge facelift of Main Street in Furbitten Falls.

I was practically shaking with excitement. It was partly for the meeting, and partly the full moon setting all of my instincts aflame, everything was heightened and I loved it. It made me feel like I was on top form, like I could take on the world if I needed to. Today was going to be a breeze.

The mayor got in touch yesterday to confirm that our bid had been accepted and wanted to meet with us today to discuss his vision fo
r Main Street, making sure that we were all on the same page. I was pretty much on whatever page she wanted me to be on, especially given the price tag attached to it. It was all-but confirmed and the rest of the town would be informed by the end of the week. It was a dream come true.

I took a deep breath and checked myself in the mirror one more time. I really needed it to go well. With the bonding ceremony tonight I didn’t exactly want a bad day at the office hanging over me when all I really wanted to be was happy for them both.

And I was happy for Jarrett, I really was. He’d looked for his mate for a good few years now and fated mates don’t come around every day. It just so happened that Brent had never left town and now he got the chance to reconnect with him and his daughter. They’d even had twins since they’d gotten back together. It was sweet. But the wolf inside me was stirring. I could feel it even as I tried to focus on my meeting. I knew that I was running out of time to find a mate of my own. That was all I really wanted. I was successful, I didn’t really want for anything, but I had nobody to share it with, nobody I could shower with gifts or take care of.

My phone buzzed again, a text off Jarrett.

“Feeling pretty nervous for today,” it read. “Do you have the rings and everything? I know I’ve asked a million times already but I just wanted to check.”

I laughed to myself. There was no use in texting him, all that would come back would be another barrage of texts. I fired a quick text off to Slater saying: Jarrett is already getting in a state. I have to work until around three, can you take care of him until then? I’m just going to call him and check in. Shout if you need me to pick anything up on the way to the hall. Illicit or otherwise.
