“What are biots?
“Biots are ‘biological robots.’ Despite the label, they are synthetic people created from human, animal, and synthetic DNA. The tie that binds them all is the contract system. Social contracts force many of them into slavery with too many necessaries to justify an open rebellion. Without the emancipation granted by Colonel Justin, most of them would not be free. Thanks to the Colonel, most biots are free in Nodlon.
“Biots come in many kinds. Elves, goblins, molemen, and dwarves are the most common in Nodlon by far, but there are many other kinds.
“Noddie is a good example. She’s a synthetic leviathan – a sea serpent. Noddie, of course, is one of the most beloved characters in the original legend, and she had to be included. Her father was possessed by the dragon, and she has played many roles in the various tales of Jack Clay.”
