And Jesus, Mary and Joseph. His balls were thick, heavy weights between his legs practically inviting me to reach down and play with them.

He growled when I started to tighten around him, my release only seconds away thanks to the erotic show I had going on between my legs.

I moaned and reached for his balls, and he started to curse.

Seconds later, he was thrusting into me so hard that it momentarily knocked me off of my feet.

When I came back down again it was to take him so far inside of me thanks to my uneasy footing that I saw stars.

“Shit,” I gasped, throwing my head back in a moan.

The orgasm that hit me fucked me up.

That was the only explanation I could say for what I felt my body experience.

My head fell back, and my hand might’ve tightened a little bit too tightly on his balls.

He cursed and I let go, only to latch onto his inner thigh with my fingers and dig my fingernails in deeply.

He growled and leaned forward, biting the meaty part of my shoulder.

His cock started to pulse inside of me, and it was only as I was coming down from the euphoric high that I could see just how hard I was latched onto him.

“Shit,” I said as I disengaged my claws from his skin.

He laughed then, running his tongue along the surprisingly tender spot where he’d bitten me.

“At least mine can be hidden with clothes,” he pointed out.

I felt my eyes widen as I looked at him from behind. “How visible are we talking here?”

Twenty minutes later as we were walking out the door, I had my answer.

  Pretty damn obvious.

The bite mark could be seen despite having my t-shirt on and my hair down.

I would’ve laughed had this situation not been so dire.

I was meeting his parents and sisters, for God’s sake!

He clutched my hand as he guided me up the front walk of his parents’ place.

“Tubing this weekend,” he said. “Remember to ask your boss for the time off.”

His smack on my ass proceeding that comment made me laugh.

“You could always just spank her for me. I hear that she likes that,” I teased, looking at him over my shoulder.

He winked. “Duly noted. I can do things to her. Torture her. We’ll get you the days off.”

“She can be a real bitch, though. You’ll have to gag her to make sure she doesn’t say things to you that are nasty,” I goaded him.

  His eyes flared.

And even though he’d just come twenty minutes ago, I knew that he was hard behind those jeans.

“Fuck, they’ve seen us now. Too late to turn around,” he grumbled as he awkwardly shoved his cock into a more comfortable position.

I would’ve laughed had the door not opened seconds later by his sister and father.

And, dear God. His father was gorgeous.

  Sweet mother of pearl.

“Holy shit,” I said softly. “Your daddy is hot.”

He pinched my ass for that comment.

  “That’s not funny,” he grumbled.

“I’m at that age,” I said softly. “Where the son and the father are both appealing.”

He snorted and directed me to his dad’s open door.

“Dad, Sierra,” Sammy said as he helped guide me up the stairs. “I’d like you to meet Hastings. Hastings,” he said. “This is my dad, Miller. And that’s my sister, Sierra. Blue’s out with friends, and way too important for family right now.”

“Miller.” I tilted my head. “I’m not all that good with beers. I’m more of a whiskey fan myself, but is it Miller Lite?”

He scoffed. “Miller Genuine,” he answered with a wink.

“My sister’s Sierra Nevada.” Sammy placed his hand on my back. “I have another sister named Blue Moon. Y’all gonna back up and let me in?”

“Sure.” Sierra smiled at me, making my heart warm with her openness. “Sammy told me you were a nurse? I have another friend who’s a nurse named Hastings.”

I was led into a rather large room that had very tall ceilings.

And a wall of windows that made my heart yearn to have the same thing.

“Actually,” I said, “I’m not really a nurse. I graduated with my Bachelor of Nursing from UT. Passed the NCLEX and boards and all that fun stuff. But I didn’t actually get a job.” I paused and turned to smile at Mercy who made her way into the room from a hallway. “I never worked as a nurse. My books took off during my third year. It took everything I had to stay in when that happened. It would honestly hurt me at this point to take the time to work as a nurse than to just do what I want to do anyway.”

Sierra’s eyes were wide with wonder. “Mom downloaded all of your books on Kindle. I’ve already made it through your first ten books. You have a lot of talent.”

“Where should I start?” Miller asked.

Sammy snorted and slapped his dad’s arms on the way past him. “Dad, you want a beer?”

Sierra shook her head. “No, I don’t want anything. Thank you for asking. I have wine.”

Mercy snorted. “We have tea, too, Hastings.”

  I nodded eagerly.

“I’ll take that.” I looked to Sammy and started to follow him, but he held his hand up. “I got it, baby.”

Sierra went utterly still beside me.

“Did he just call you baby?” she asked in awe.

I frowned. “Yeah, is that bad?”

“No.” She shook her head. “I just never thought I’d see the day that my big brother found a girl to call his own. I gotta tell you, this is amazing.” She eyed me, trailing her gaze down the length of my midriff. “And a baby. I love babies!”

I felt my face flush. “Uhhh, yeah.” I scrunched my nose up. “We have a while, though. I’m only about eight and a half weeks.”

She rubbed her hands together. “Plenty of time to buy all the things!”

  All the things.

  That made me grin.

“I’m guessing you really love children,” I teased.

She nodded enthusiastically, and it was then that I saw the resemblance between her and her brother.

They both had the same eyes and the same dimples.

“Who the hell can resist you, Spurlocks?” I blurted. “Dimples? Seriously?”

Mercy burst out laughing. “We were surprised, too. None of the other family members have the dimples. Only these two. And when Sammy smiles, all the girls just fall all over themselves. Until he covers it up with that beard.”

Since I’d met him, Sammy hadn’t had a beard long enough to cover them.

But I imagined he’d pull the beard off just as well as he pulled off the dimples.

“So, Mom, you’re going to watch the dog for me while we go this weekend to the river, right?” Sierra interjected.

Sammy came back with my tea, and we headed out to the back yard where the grill was already puffing out smoke, indicating there was food almost ready.

“I already told you I would, loser,” Miller interjected. “Aren’t y’all worried it’s going to be too cold this weekend?”

I had expressed that same question, but Sammy hadn’t seemed too concerned.

“It’s not even October yet. It’s still ninety degrees. It’ll be fine,” Sierra said.

  “Famous last words,” Mercy teased.

  Dinner was great.

I didn’t scream out ‘fuck’ once, and I only tittered off one catchy jingle from nineties commercials, and none of them blinked an eye.

It was like I’d been with them forever.

It was everything I could ever hope for when it came to meeting my man’s parents.

And even better, I loved his sister, too.

It felt like I’d known them forever.

Bonus points was that they all said ‘fuck’ more than I did.

  Score!

Pre-annoyed—knowing beforehand that someone is about to piss you off.

  -Sammy to Hastings

  Sammy

  Two weeks later

“There’s a first responder CrossFit competition.” I turned my phone to show her the display.

Her eyes lit up in surprise. “You should do it!”

I grinned and turned my gaze back toward my phone.

“You have to have a team of men,” I explained.

“Sammy.” Hastings pushed my side. “You have to go. Ask everyone. I’m sure that a lot of them would do it just because it’s for a good cause.”

  They would.

“But I don’t want to leave you here on a Saturday by yourself,” I teased.

She rolled her eyes. “You damn well know that I’d be going with you. My readers would love to be able to see this. All these hot, sweaty, in shape guys competing? They’d eat it up.”

Her readers were a bunch of hussy women, that was for sure. But I was beginning to like all of them.

  “It’s tomorrow,” I said. “I don’t have enough time.”

She rolled her eyes. “You’re just trying to get out of it. Come on,” she bumped me with her shoulder. “It’ll be fun. And it’s not like you have to drive far. It’s here, in Kilgore. Not to mention you go to the gym there already.”

I knew it would be fun.

But I also knew that she didn’t do well with a shit ton of people around her.

But her excitement over it was what ultimately made me agree.

“I’ll ask around,” I said. “But I’m not promising anything.”

She winked at me and pulled up her phone. “I’ll ask the ladies.”

  And she did.

My phone started lighting up moments later in the largest group text I’d ever been a part of.

Dax: If I do this, you have to be on baby duty for an hour later that night.

Ford: I’m calling in a future favor for my own baby duty.

Hayes: Ask Hastings not to post my bad side when she shares it with her reader group.

Booth: I’m in. Asa says he’ll be our mascot.

Bourne: I’m down. It’s always an ego boost when hot ladies tell me I’m pretty.

  Booth: I’m hotter.

  Saint: In.

  Malachi: My snatch isn’t pretty.

Derek: I have a beautiful snatch. Count me in.

Adam: That’s the day before we leave for Beaver’s Bend. Swear to Christ if I have a pulled muscle when I go to ride jet skis, I’ll kill you.

Louis: Don’t be a little bitch, Adam. At least you’re not just coming home from your honeymoon.

Nathan: I’ll sponsor the team, be the coach. My shoulder’s being a bitch lately. Don’t think it’ll be ready by tomorrow.

I shook my head at all the replies.

Then nearly crossed my eyes in annoyance when my phone just kept going off. Again and again and again.

I tossed it to the side before replying and looked over at Hastings. “Are you in a group chat, too?”

She nodded and turned her screen toward me, displaying a chat screen that was having more and more messages pop up every second. “I am.”

“Well, just sayin’, but baby, I don’t like group chats. If you want to be in one, don’t ever expect me to reply,” I teased as I pressed my fingers to my temple. “My head already hurts.

“I think that’s a man thing. I don’t mind being in a group chat. As long as it’s one that I want to be in, anyway. My sister put me in one for some cookie party a couple of months ago with a bunch of her nurse friends. I didn’t know any of them. I was so lost, and you can’t back out of it. I had to mute the conversation,” she said, shaking her head.

I pulled her into my lap, loving the way her tiny belly poked me in mine before I laid a kiss onto her lips.

The thing had popped out unexpectedly this morning. Last night when we’d gone to bed, it’d been flat.

Then this morning she’d gotten up and stretched her arms up high over her head, and bam, there it was. It was the perfect size to fit in the palm of my hand.

“We’ve decided to camp there. We’re going to set up a tent. And the weather is supposed to be beautiful. Mid-sixties, sunny, and gorgeous.” She curled herself into me and I felt more than saw her close her eyes and drop her phone to her lap. “We’re going to meet up there at eight. You have to leave by seven in the morning, right?”

“That’s what the signups say,” I admitted. “Though, they said they ‘highly discouraged’ same-day registration.”

“You’re the Kilgore SWAT team. I’m pretty sure all the excitement you will garner will totally cancel out the fact that they have to scramble to find a place for you in the event.” She sighed and turned her body so that she was facing the couch more than the television. Her phone fell between her and the cushion. “You’re so comfortable.”

I snorted. “Did you just call me fat?”

She pinched me on the side. “I didn’t and you know that I didn’t.”

I grinned and pulled her closer to me, inhaling deeply so I could get the scent of her in my lungs.

“Why do you always smell my hair?” she asked tiredly.

Her eyes were closed now and her nose and mouth were so close to my skin that I could feel each inhale and exhale against my arm.

“Because I like the way it smells,” I told her. “Today it smells differently, though.”

She laughed, the small puffs of breath against my skin making my amusement notch upward.

“I found a new smell at the store that I wanted to try. I don’t think that I’ll ever use it again, though. I liked the smell until I was smelling it all day long. Now it’s making me nauseous,” she admitted.

  I frowned. “You’re nauseous?”

She pressed her lips against my skin in an absent kiss that made my heart disgustingly warm.

  I liked this.

  A lot.

“Only when I get a whiff of my hair,” she admitted. “Though, sometimes when I get a whiff of your deodorant, it does the same thing.”

I made a mental note to find a different smelling one at the store tomorrow when I went.

“But don’t change it,” she said as a yawned cracked her jaw. “I like the smell most of the time.”

I couldn’t keep the smirk off my lips.

“I’ll buy some new stuff. Then you can see if that’s better or worse,” I offered.

She sighed. “I think I’m fairly lucky, considering. Your mom said that she was nauseous twenty-four-seven when it came to Sierra. And my mom said that when she was pregnant with me that she had to take meds for her nausea. If she didn’t she had to go to the hospital because she was dehydrated because she couldn’t keep anything down.”

  That would suck.

It was bad enough that she was nauseous some of the time.

According to Adam, Amelia was throwing up every single morning. I’d yet to see Hastings need to.

  Thank. Fucking. God.

I would hate if she wasn’t feeling well because of me.

“I’m just going to take a nap right here,” she said.

“It’s ten o’clock in the morning,” I pointed out.

She smiled against my chest. “And?”

  She had a point.

So, for the next couple of hours, we did nothing but lay around and be lazy.

Neither of us would realize how much this day would come to mean to us in the weeks to come.

  Chapter 21

You need to let that shit go.

  -Hastings’ secret thoughts

  Hastings

I was brushing my teeth and glancing at my text messages when I froze.

“Nooo,” I moaned, spitting the toothpaste out of my mouth and rinsing despite only having brushed the top half of my teeth. “Son of a fucking whore!”

  “What’s wrong?” Sammy asked as
he came in the room.

His eyes automatically went to my belly that was on display since I was standing there in a bra and panties.

I threw the toothbrush down onto the vanity and looked at him with horror.

“I was just contacted by the place that I use to publish my books through. Apparently, there’s something wrong with my book, and I need to upload a new file.” I nearly cried. “It’s showing up as a blank document.”

He frowned as he looked at his watch.

“You’ll have to hurry if you want to go with me,” he said.

I waved him away. “This is not going to be a quick or easy fix. Just go. Pew, pew, pew.”

“What about the photos that you wanted?”

  I couldn’t even think.

“I…” I shook my head. “I’ll have to… fuck. I can’t even think right now. What a disaster! I have like two hours to get this uploaded before it’s locked completely and this version is released to the public.”

“I’ll call your mom,” he said. “She can take photos for you.”

I looked at him with a smile on my face, despite feeling like I was about to throw up.

“Thank you, Sammy.” I walked up to him and threw my arms around him before dropping a quick kiss to his cheek. “Thank you.”

Before he could reply or say a word, I rushed to my office to do damage control.

  ***

I smiled when I saw the familiar man at the door.

“Hey, Trist.” I grinned. “What are you doing here? Sammy isn’t here.”

Trist looked down at my belly and shook his head.

Trist I’d met the day before. We had a unit that was being built and he’d come to express the desire to rent it when it was done. When Sammy had come to the door, it was then I realized that Sammy had instructed him to come by and let me know his intentions.

“I have some bad news…” he said softly. “There was a wreck on the interstate. It was a multi-car pileup. Your parents’ car, along with a KPD vehicle holding Sammy was involved in the wreck. At this time” —he shook his head— “we don’t know anymore. The truck that initially began the pileup exploded.”

  My heart…

I clutched my chest with both hands and stared at Trist.

  “Is he…”

He shook his head, guessing what I was asking before I’d even asked.
