How to Train a Viscount (Wedding Trouble, #4)

The estate was vast, and the manor house was immaculate.
Adam strode through his garden, inhaling the scent of flowers. Hamish’s wife had helped Isla redesign the grounds, and now there was a new delight at every turn.
“I’ll get that,” Adam said.
The postman widened his eyes. “Thank you, My Lord.”
Adam grinned and pressed some coin into the man’s hands to tip.
“Thank you, My Lord.”
“Mail is important. There might always be something interesting.” Adam smiled, thinking of another arrival of post, long ago.
The postman’s gaze flitted to Adam’s shoulder. “That’s truly a monkey. I—er—thought it might be a rumor.”
“No rumor,” Adam said cheerfully. “Thabisa is quite alive.”
Thabisa climbed down Adam’s shoulder and into his arms. She was getting larger, but she still enjoyed being held, even if she was spending more time exploring the treetops. The Duke of Vernon, Earl of McIntyre and Lord Hamish had delighted in joining her, proclaiming a remarkable enthusiasm for tree climbing.
Lord Hamish had forgiven Adam for attempting to run away.
“Wave to the nice man,” Adam instructed, and Thabisa waved.
The postman grinned. “Incredible. Quite incredible.”
Adam shrugged.
“Is it true you got the monkey in Africa, My Lord?”
“It is.”
“Golly!” The man gawked. “Well,” he said finally. “I better be on my way.”
“You’ll come for May Day,” Adam said. “All the villagers are invited. We’ll have a big May pole here.”
“Golly,” the man said again. “This beats working in the mine.”
Adam grinned.
He was just a viscount because of the slimmest of chances, and he didn’t want to forget his former life. He wanted all the villagers and residents on the estate to feel appreciated. He understood what it was like to not be happy.
Perhaps Randall would have run the estate differently, just as the solicitor would have perhaps done things differently, being aggressive in selling valuable furniture and art. Adam wasn’t going to sell anything. He was going to honor the history of the estate and secure its future, all while making certain the people here knew they were valued.
Some of the fields were now reserved for cow grazing. The previous viscount had not liked to see them by his home, but Adam didn’t tire of seeing happy animals.
Adam looked through the mail and then entered his home.
Perhaps today was simple, with no celebrations planned, but he cherished every small action.
“You know the butler is quite capable of getting the mail,” Isla said.
“Yes.”
“With all the visitors arriving he will not get the least bit rusty at the process of opening doors,” Adam said, and pointed to the letter in his hand. “Hamish and Georgiana are stopping here on their way to Brighton.”
“Are they?” Isla beamed. “How lovely.”
“It seems Wiltshire is ideal,” Adam said proudly.
“You take such pride in respecting the Tremont name,” Isla said. “One would almost think you personally inspired the king to create the position for you.”
“Nonsense,” Adam said. “I’ve been researching the Tremont family tree. Henry VIII created the position, and it is perhaps best not to dwell on the reasons for why it was created.”
Isla’s eyes sparkled. “That means it was for something naughty.”
“You are a very intelligent woman,” Adam said.
And then he kissed her, and life was wonderful.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED spending time with Isla and Adam. I loved writing them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
BORN IN TEXAS, BIANCA Blythe spent four years in England. She worked in a fifteenth century castle, though sadly that didn't actually involve spotting dukes and earls strutting about in Hessians.
She credits British weather for forcing her into a library, where she discovered her first Julia Quinn novel. Thank goodness for blustery downpours.
Bianca now lives in California with her husband.
