  “I’m going to read it.”

“No!” Lara reached for the phone, but instead of playing keep-away, Paige kissed her. The surprise was enough to stop Lara from protesting, and the confidence in Paige’s voice when she spoke was enough to put Lara’s stomach at ease.

“Hey. You don’t have to worry this time. You killed that interview.” Paige kissed her again, soft and sweet, and Lara let her hands settle back into her lap. “Can I read it to you?” The way Paige asked made Lara believe that if she said no, then Paige would put the phone down and act like Roger Feldman never existed.

It was all the comfort Lara needed to say yes. She had been waiting for this too, if not as diligently as Paige.

  “Yeah. I’m ready.”
