“Mason,” she sniffled as he tugged her close.
He removed the file from her hand. His palm caressed over her back. “I had to sweeten the pot… if you didn’t say yes of your own accord.”
And then he surprised her further. He released her and lowered himself onto one knee. “I know you said yes already, but I want to do this properly with you. So, Emily Fox, love me, build a life with me, have children with me.”
When he withdrew a ring from his pocket, her sniffles increased. It was a simple, elegant platinum band with a solitary diamond in the center that sparkled up at her. She looked into Mason’s eyes, saw his emotions, the love he held for her, and the promise of their future. With her heart in her throat, Emily said, “Yes.”
He slid the ring over her finger and it fit perfectly. Just like he fit her so perfectly. Then he stood and swung her up into his arms, carrying her up the stairs.
“I have plans for you tonight, Em. Be as loud as you need to be,” he said, shutting the bedroom door behind them.
“But Cole…”
“Is on a weekend fishing trip with clients,” he assured her.
“So we have the house to ourselves?”
“Umhmm.” He backed her over to the bed. Their hands made quick work of their clothing as they tumbled onto the mattress.
And when Mason slid home inside her, holding nothing back, the love apparent in his eyes, Emily surrendered to the need, to the desire, to his wicked love that she could never live without.
The road she’d driven to get here might have been paved with coffee, Ho Hos, and a love she never expected to find. But it had been worth every mile, because she finally found her way home.
