Chapter one
Brooke
The reflection looking back at me was someone I barely recognized. This was a woman of sophistication and class. The pantsuit was the perfect way to make it seem like I was all about business. The white blouse with a dark vest to match was giving me a sense of style and confidence.
Walking into the courtroom ready to go to war had become my new normal.
My long blond hair with a light red streak down the back was tied up in a ponytail. My hourglass figure made everybody take a second glance with their eyes conveying their wanton desire without even meaning to.
I set down my black briefcase and very carefully extracted the files pertaining to the case. Nerves didn’t play into it but I could feel my heart beating just a little bit quicker. The adrenaline rush was unmatched with that feeling of invincibility running through my veins.
The man next to me was dressed to impress in a black suit with no tie. Focus groups had proven casual would make him more presentable to the jury. I didn’t believe the case would go to trial. Being an associate gave me a license to think outside the box. The research was the key to any successful defense.
Carver Reinhardt was being accused of premeditated murder. His retainer was quite significant. Preferential treatment was given to those movers and shakers that had the money to make things happen.
He moved his hand through his recently shorn hair. “You said there was nothing to worry about. What happened in getting this thrown out for lack of evidence? I never suspected we would be here after all the assurances you made,” He directed his comments to me but did not give me the courtesy of looking me in the eyes.
He was looking around with one hand squeezing the knuckle of the other.
“Things like this sometimes take on a life of their own. The judge has been deliberating on the evidence for almost an hour. It means that he is taking his time to make sure that he makes the right decision in this case.” I talked a good game but there were always complications that couldn’t be accounted for.
There was something in my peripheral vision.
Austin Black was in the courtroom. He didn’t normally come out of his office unless it was for a damn good reason. The only thing he was worried about was getting results. Trusting me had come easy when I showed him through example that I was willing to do practically anything to win. We barely said two words to one another.
Why was he here? I didn’t like somebody looking over my shoulder.
Carver grabbed my wrist with enough force to leave the imprint of his fingerprints behind
“I don’t like this. I’m paying you good money to make sure this goes away. How was I supposed to know the burglar was my wife coming home drunk from a girls’ night out. I didn’t have my glasses on,” He professed with this puppy dog look in his eyes to garner my sympathy.
Austin Black was a legend when it came to courtroom battles. His reputation preceded him. He saw some potential in me right out of law school. It wasn’t every day when he invited someone into the inner circle. I felt privileged and it put a fire under me to make the best impression.
I carefully removed Carver’s fingers one at a time. “I have a motion in front of the court. The warrant they used to search your place for the murder weapon was flawed. There was a clerical error. The number of the house should have been next door,” I explained while pushing my glasses up.
I didn’t need them but they gave me that extra touch of education. People had the idea that the only thing I did on Saturday nights was stick my head in a book.
I could still see Austin out of the corner of my eye watching me intently. There was something in the way that he was scratching his chin that concerned me. It wasn’t like him to take a personal interest in a case. There had to be an underlying reason for his visit. It was out of the blue without any fair warning.
The bailiff came in and announced that the judge was ready to make his ruling.
The door behind the bench opened and the shine of his bald head followed him until he sat down. Judge Anders was fair but firm when it came to the law. There was no way that he could possibly side with the prosecution. They made the mistake and I capitalized on it.
“You can all be seated. I have reviewed the case. It’s painfully clear the murder weapon was found at the suspect’s house. The warrant used to retain this evidence was done with some haste. Unfortunately, anything found in the house cannot be used against him in the court of law. I have no other choice than to release the defendant.” There was a chorus of dissension and congratulations at the same time.
Carver’s mother reached over and wrapped her hands around her baby boy’s shoulders. She would believe anything that came out of his mouth. They would’ve had a slam dunk case if the warrant had the right address on it.
Austin Black never moved an inch showing no emotion when the decision was read. He was always staid and quiet but when he did say something, it was always poignant. The man was intimidating at over 6 feet and 200 plus pounds of muscle. His physique had me wondering what was hiding underneath those custom-made Italian suits.
The gavel banged repeatedly to gain some semblance of order in the chaos. “The prosecution can retry this case at their discretion. I would suggest you find irrefutable evidence before you attempt to bring this before the court. The one pet peeve I have is wasting my time,” He said before getting up and leaving the proceedings.
It was a moment to celebrate but I wasn’t much in the mood to raise a glass to my victory. There was this somber feeling in the room and that black cloud was localized over Austin Black.
He stood up and came over to stand right behind me with his shadow encompassing me. “That was impressive. We do need to talk about something that has come to my attention. I would rather do this someplace private.” His voice was neutral displaying nothing that indicated that he was angry or upset.
I gave my client a pat on his shoulder. There was no doubt in my mind he was guilty. It all came down to what could be used in court. They tried in vain for a plea deal but I summarily shot them down before my client could even contemplate the idea of spending any time behind bars.
Austin made me feel like I was being called in front of the principal’s office. I li
ked the idea of being disciplined by him.
To say that I was hungry for something more than a casual date where idle chitchat might lead to a chaste kiss at the end of the evening was an understatement.
My hand was permanently attached to my briefcase with my fingers locked in place. This was the first time in a long time I felt less than confident.
Austin was a contemporary warrior. Instead of a suit of armor, he was wearing a disarming smile and a style that was hard to ignore.
The smell of his cologne was an overpowering aphrodisiac. There was not a shortage of women in his life. The press had followed him around. Candid shots of him with different women every week had satiated the bloodlust of the photographers looking for their moment in the sun.
Austin motioned with one hand for me to go into this vacant room before he closed the door behind us. That hand was at the forefront of several of my fantasies. One look in my direction could make me lose my train of thought.
Keeping it together was paramount.
The room had a long black rectangular table in the center with several black leather swivel chairs around it. The walls were plainly decorated with what would be construed as artwork.
There was nothing to focus on.
I sat down and spun around to face him. “I’m not sure what this is about but it must be important for you to come down here in person.” I was waiting on pins and needles feeling this cool bead of sweat running down the back of my spine.
“There is no easy way to say this. It hasn’t become public knowledge but it’s just a matter of time before it does. I need to get ahead of this.” He stopped talking and moved a little closer until his hands were pinning me to the chair.
“This is highly unorthodox. I don’t appreciate the interrogation tactics,” I uttered with my voice cracking under the pressure of those glaring blue eyes staring right through me.
He took a deep breath with his finger squeezing just a little bit tighter. “I thought I made myself clear when you came to work for me that there couldn’t be any secrets. I know people have skeletons but this information is going to cause a snowball effect. The past has a funny way of coming back to bite you when you least expect it,” He mentioned and at that moment I knew exactly what he was referring to.
It was such a long time ago that I convinced myself it didn’t happen. The world as I knew it was different. Desperation made me do some strange things. Wiping the slate clean meant reinventing my persona from the ground up. It wasn’t that difficult when I had people in low places. Changing my name and my look was just one of the many ways I had transformed.
I wasn’t sure what to say and I became silent without the words to express. She was supposed to be gone. Burying her 6-feet deep was the only way. Selling my services for compensation wasn’t my proudest moment.
This was a secret I had and I hadn’t shared it with anybody. Those days in the past were something I was trying to avoid thinking about. It wasn’t because I was ashamed. It was the exact opposite. The thrill of doing something naughty and taboo was an electrifying experience. Everything else paled in comparison including the adrenaline rush I got when I went into court.
There was no telling how Austin was going to respond.
Chapter Two
Austin
My research staff was second to none and I made sure to have all of my bases covered. There was very little chance something would catch me by surprise. It was quite amazing to be standing in front of her. The photographs were a far cry from what I was looking at.
Brooke Langley AKA Bodacious Lisa was one in the same person.
“You have put me in a very difficult position,” I said with almost a smile when I began to think of other positions she had probably been in swinging around on the pole.
She was biting her bottom lip. “Everybody has something in their past. I thought I left it all behind me five years ago,” Brooke replied with me standing at the door supposedly judging her but mostly undressing her with my eyes.
“I can do damage control. I’ve already taken the liberty of having those photographs digitally altered. Some have even been scrubbed clean from the Internet. That was at great expense. I don’t need this drama in my life,” I spoke like a boss but underneath I was still a normal red-blooded American man with needs.
Telling her the photographs were destroyed was somewhat of a negative statement. Nobody would be able to find them on the Internet. I had personally taken possession of those photographs and one very explicit video.
Stripping wasn’t her only crime. Bachelor parties had come with the territory. The video was something that I had watched over and over again in the comfort of my bedroom. That woman made me yearn for something that was off the menu.
She stood and began pacing back and forth showing off her curves in the right light. That body was made for sinful exploration. Spending time behind closed doors to make her scream with my name on the tip of her tongue had become somewhat of an obsession over the last few days.
“Who else knows about this? You said this information came to your attention. That means somebody besides you, knows my dirty little secret. I want names,” She said when she suddenly grabbed me by the collar to show a chink in her usual rigid armor.
“I have made them sign a nondisclosure agreement at the threat of prosecution and dismissal. I have the power to blackball anybody that even whispers something about this. It doesn’t mean there won’t be a leak. I thought about firing you,” I mentioned and I could see the way that she was pleading with me without saying a word.
She gulped and sat back down with all the air coming out of her lungs.
“I’m slightly curious about how you can go from that to walking into a courtroom a few years later. I saw the video,” I blurted out to see her reaction.
I was making sure to invade her personal space with my hands on her shoulders.
My eyes narrowed on her heaving bosom from where I was standing over her. This was on purpose to satisfy a certain craving. It did nothing other than raise the flag of my persuasion. The pleasing sight of those golden globes made a certain part of my anatomy wake up. It was quite pronounced in my pants and it wasn’t going down without some help.
“I left that life behind. That video was taken out of context,” She expressed with a bit of a catch in her throat.
“I’m usually a good judge of character. What I saw on the video told me a different story. It wasn’t like you were just going through the motions. You were enjoying yourself. You might have left her behind but she has always been with you,” I stated emphatically with my arms crossed, and my hips angled in such a way that it would make it impossible for her not to notice my condition.
Her pink bubble gum tongue snaked out of her mouth and she stared at me with this fire in her eyes. There was something lurking underneath begging to come out. It was waiting for someone like me to come along to coax it back out into the light.
There was no reason why she had to hide in the darkness when what I wanted most of all was to see that woman from the past getting a resurgence of life.
Grabbing her hand quickly before she had a chance to stop me had me pressing her palm against the bulge of my excitement. It felt right to be doing something wrong behind closed doors only a few feet away from people walking by in the hallway.
I reached back and locked the door to make sure that we were not going to be interrupted.
She was breathing a little bit faster. “I don’t want to be that woman,” She protested without taking her hand away from the fire of my loins.
“I hear the words but there is no conviction behind them. You want to be bad. There’s no reason why you have to hold back on my account,” I spoke with encouragement giving her the proper incentive and permission to do whatever her dirty little mind was thinking.
The zipper began to move with her shaky fingers holding onto the tab.
I placed my hand delicately on the back of her head and gave a slight tug t
o make her look at me with her eyes glazed over.
Those were the very same eyes I saw in the video.
My masculine fingers went to work on her blouse until I could see the purple lace bra underneath. It was almost transparent with those dollar-sized nipples poking out obscenely through the material.
“I can’t do this,” She wrenched her hand back but she didn’t stop eyeballing the merchandise.
I lifted her chin. “You can do this. Nothing is stopping you. We can be bad together. Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about this. We both know you have. I can stop whenever I want but I don’t think the same thing can be said for you,” I debated with her hand returning to finish what she started.
Her fingers reached inside the opening of my black silk briefs. That one touch made me become like some kind of wild animal unleashed from the chain. There was this low growl from deep down in my stomach when she wrapped her hand around the hot shaft.
I casually glanced over my shoulder to those few inches of wood. It was decadent and dirty to do something that would be considered inappropriate.
Brooke brought me out into the open where she could get a better look. It was 9 inches quite large and imposing and thick enough that she couldn’t reach her fingers around the base. There was no pressure and she was doing what came naturally in the animal kingdom.
Her perfume was understated and the slight amount of makeup was mostly on her lips. The way that she was looking at the eye of the storm had me convinced she was never going to be able to restrain the wild woman inside of her.
This experience was making me realize how life was passing me by. The women in my life were merely footnotes in my history. Brooke was the first to take the initiative with a bit of guidance from me.
