Fae Lord Avenged Page 7

She knew her words were brimming with innuendo, but she didn’t care. For the first time in her life, she was letting something other than her rational side sit behind the steering wheel.

“Well, then you’re extremely good at following my lead,” he murmured in her ear.

His words were hot coals. She could almost feel the heat emanating from his body, and her own body was reacting in kind. Welling up from deep within her was lust—fiery and uncontrollable—and she knew that whatever resistance she tried to offer wouldn’t do her any good. As such, she did the only reasonable thing she could do.

  She surrendered to it.

“Want to get out of here?” she whispered, the words coming out from her mouth before she could stop them.

He raised one eyebrow, surprised, and his smile curled up into a wide grin. Dragging her teeth across her bottom lip, she glanced at the crowd, looking for a way out of the hall. It’d be almost impossible to slip out unnoticed, so she’d have to create a diversion. Thankfully, she knew exactly how to go about it.

She honed in on the smoke machine at the far corner of the dance floor and knitted her eyebrows together. Tapping into her inner well of magic, she felt that familiar tingling sensation starting on her toes and creeping up her legs, and then closed her eyes for a half-second. A burst of energy shot from her and across the dance floor, and then there were sparks.

People yelped as the smoke machine misfired and a mushroom cloud of smoke started taking over the hall. With the smoke wrapping itself around them like a veil of invisibility, Evie seized the opportunity and took Kellen’s hand, dragging him out of the hall.

I, she thought, her heart hammering inside her chest. I’m actually doing this.
