Just As I Am Page 23

by Lynn Jaxon

Watching my wife nurse my daughter brings tears to my eyes. Marley was terrified the entire pregnancy that something would happen like it did all those years ago with her first pregnancy. I assured her as much as I could that she was healthy, and our baby was healthy. When we saw her for the first time on the ultrasound, it was love at first sight. Just like it was with Mitch and Henry. Now the technology is so much better that it is incredible what you can see. Marley was just fourteen weeks pregnant when the doctor told us we were having a girl. I broke down sobbing. Yes, I’m that man. I can’t seem to help myself when it comes to the women I love.

Marley turned to me and asked, “Can we please name her Emily? It would mean so much to me, and I really feel like Em is the reason we have her.”

I was speechless. How could she have known that is what I wanted more than anything? The boys broke down in tears as well when we told them that they were having a sister and we were naming her Emily.

I was right. As soon as Emily nursed and was in a dry diaper and warm sleeper, she was out like a light. She didn’t even fuss when I put her in her car seat. I hate these damn things. They are so tricky to get the baby in and out of without waking them up, but luck was on my side today.

Kristi was waiting excitedly at the door when we arrived. Henry and Kristi have become very serious, and she moved in with Mitch and Henry a couple of months ago. I have a feeling we will be celebrating another Davis engagement soon.

Marley went over everything several times and then we were ready to go. It was hard to keep my hands off her.

Dinner was great, but I was ready for dessert at home. On the way home, I hold her hand and rub my thumb in circles. “I love you so much, Marley. You’re the most amazing mother to our daughter. We are both so lucky.”

Marley slips out of her dress while I’m lighting candles around the room. She is laying on the silk sheets with her chestnut hair in waves on the pillow. As I look at my stunning wife, it is still so hard for me to believe how incredibly blessed I’ve been to be given a second chance at love. She’s the light in my darkness and my forever home. I lean in and give her a soft kiss on the cheek while I light the last candle and wave the match to put it out.

I crawl into bed like a tiger on the prowl, licking and biting my way up to the promised land. I just start to lick her clit when I see a flash of light out of the corner of my eyes and smell something burning.

“Oh shit!!” I yell. There are flames coming out of Marley’s intimates’ drawer. The tip of the match must have flown off and landed in the crack where the drawer wasn’t completely shut. Her silk and cotton panties are up in flames. I jump off the bed and pull out the drawer before her perfume, that is on the top of the dresser, catches on fire.

I look over at Marley, and she is rolling with laughter. “Baby you really are smoking hot! A little too hot to handle tonight. Can we go get Emily?”

I had just stomped out the last pair of panties and fell to the bed laughing. “Yes, let’s go get our princess.”
