“Perfect. Tell Doctor Varas that I will check in later today.”

  “Of course.”

With the retreating sound of scuttling footsteps, she allowed herself to look out the window and drink in the sight of her intoxicatingly perfect city. Forged of glass and steel, and glinting unforgivingly in the blinding sun, because forget she might have, but forgive she never would. A little further out, and she could see the ocean, blue and calm.

Perfectly unaware, beyond the calm tides, there was a king of mortals who she suspected was a star; burning quick and bright, resounding through galaxies beyond his time. Beyond the calm tides, there was a king who wore a crown of a dying world, and try as he might, they both knew that he couldn’t stop the brewing war.

She had lived long enough to know how to fight wars, and more importantly, how to win them, but for now, she breathed. Because while she still might have eternity, right now, after years of imprisonment, she was free. Kessia was dead, and now the rightful heir to the throne would take her place.

  The Immortale Queen was free.
