The Problem With Mistletoe Page 31

It was still decorated for Christmas and he decided to leave it up until after the new year. Dr. Horton inquired about using the venue for an EMC staff New Year’s party and Alex readily agreed. The hospital was now a pledged partner to the CYA, so it was good business.

It put Alex in mind of other opportunities in town. With Capili’s as a kitchen, he could start his own satellite Five Points catering business. It was definitely worth a thought or two.

David wanted to take point at the CYA anyway, with him working on fundraising events. It could all come together very nicely.

He opened a cardboard box and pulled a small wooden ornament out. What the . . .

He held it up to David. “You still have this?”

“Of course I still have it.” David gave him a wink as he hung a large glass ornament.

Eric glanced at the object in Alex’s hand. “It’s the little drummer boy.”

“We had two.” Alex cradled it in his hand. “One for each of us.”

“That is Alex’s. He had mine,” David said.

“Yours was at my father’s house. It must be long gone now.”

David shook his head. “No, when they sold off your father’s stuff, I got it back.”

  “You have it?”

“It’s right here.” Reaching into another box, Eric grabbed a matching ornament and held it up. “We always hang them together.”

“Right where they belong.” David hung Alex’s ornament on the tree and Alex placed his right beside it. “Come here.” He led Alex toward the foyer.

“What is that?” Alex pointed to the sprig of mistletoe hanging from the light fixture in the mudroom. When did David put that up?

“Let’s get it right this time,” David said and pulled Alex into a deep kiss.
