I pull her into my arms. “With all my heart, Amy Reynolds.”

AMY
It’s been four years since I moved home, but the day has finally come. I’m holding my very first book in my hands. One I wrote. I pace around our home, nervous about the onslaught of people who are about to show up to celebrate this day with me. Nervous and excited. “Is everything ready?” I ask Reid.
He draws me into his arms and kisses me until I’m in a haze. It’s been like that for four years; his kisses ignite all my senses and push away all my worries. If we didn’t have company coming, I’d shove aside the appetizers on the kitchen island and demand he take me right now while our little boy is napping.
“I’m so proud of you, Amy.” He releases me slowly, taking the paperback from my hands. “This is so special. You are so special.”
“What if everyone hates it?”
“Not possible.” He kisses my forehead. “I read it, and it’s amazing.”
“What? How did—”
“I snuck a copy out last night.”
“You read a romance novel?”
“Every last word.”
Though I started out writing a mystery novel, Reid’s sister Jenny helped me realize that my passion was actually romantic suspense. Still plenty of elements of mystery, but all the steam and sizzle my first draft was missing. I’m already halfway through writing the next book in the series, and I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled.
“You liked it?”
“You’re lucky we have company coming, because you wrote some naughty things, Amy.” He growls against my ear.
The doorbell rings, announcing guests. I kiss Reid once more, promising to act out any scene he wants later tonight. For now, our home is about to be filled with my loving and supportive family, and Reid’s too. He was right about them. Once I told my family I was back in town, they embraced me and never once said I told you so about any of the mistakes I’d made.
I squeeze his hand as we walk toward the door. “I love you, Reid. With all my heart.”
