Behind-The-Scenes Secrets #7 ... “Prophecy”
There is no doubt at all that the 1984 film version of Dune is an odd movie. I love David Lynch and, even for him, it’s an odd movie — an outlier. It’s the one film that he’s made that he’s actually disowned. But, despite all that, it’s still pretty mesmerizing and the soundtrack is still pretty damn awesome, especially Brian Eno’s “Prophecy” theme!
Like the music from the movie Hostiles that I posted about in Behind-The-Scenes Secrets #1 over on my Patreon page, the “Prophecy” theme from Dune is one that I listened to over and over again while writing Book 1 of Legendary Dungeon Seed. There’s actually a mega-mix of it on Youtube that’s just over 3 hours long! Although, truthfully, I could only ever get about an hour-and-a-half in before having to switch to something else. It’s only a 4 minute and 21 second song after all, and three hours of that on a loop is sure to melt most peoples’ minds.
However, somewhere between my mind becoming a tuna melt sandwich and total epiphany, I came up with the basic elements of the prophecy that Pelt tries to tell Osman in Chapter 5: “A human with dragon eyes … a dragon with human eyes … the unclean spirit and a girl with a fractured soul.” These points are all part of the bigger mystery that Osman must solve over the next several books in order to prevail or, at least … survive!!!
