  “What's wrong?”

“Earlier my pup smelled an unfamiliar scent on our lands. We traced it back here. We believe it to be an intruder. She is resting in your home,” Artemis explained. Artemis is an older wolf who resembles a large husky. His wife, Mila looks similar, but her ears are much rounder.

“We waited until you came back. We dare not attack without your say so.”

“You did the right thing. She is no intruder. She is a friend of our new pack member Lystra.”

“Ah!! Master is going to mate! Oh yes! Alpha will finally mate!” Hailey yelled, jumping around her mate with excitement.

Her mate Evan simple buried his muzzle in his fur in embarrassment. Hailey has gold far, and she's kind of like the pack cheerleader. She sees the positive in everyone, whereas her mate is covered in a reddish-brown fur. All but a small patch on his jugular is reddish brown. His patch is golden.

“Hailey, calm yourself!” She looked at him frustration before flipping down on her haunches. He nuzzled her neck, and she seemed more satisfied.

“We are not used to other’s being here, Ozni. Her scent is strong and its causing frustration to the others wolves,“ Artemis spoke.

“I will formally introduce her during the next town meeting. She is here because she wants to ensure the safety of Lystra's conversion.”

“She knows what we are?” Evan questioned.

“I will not answer anything before the meeting. Speculation will harm more than it will help. Call a meeting for tomorrow morning.”

“Yes, sir,” all four of them responded before sauntering away.

I entered my home and climbed the stairway leading to the master suite. Her scent smacked me in the face. Hunting had swept some of the urges out of my system.

I had to be dreaming. Her fingers dipped in and out of wet entrance with her cum oozing and pooling onto the powder blue sheet below her. She moaned. I growled, and she jumped up. I swiftly moved out of her line of sight. I heard her breath hitch before she shuffled around the room. I hid in the shadows of the hall. She opened her bedroom door and poked her head around. When nothing could confirm what she heard, she went back to her room and locked her door. I was so hard that it hurt. Masturbation would not be enough. I needed sex. I made my way to my room, to dress and grab my car keys. I need to make a trip into the city.

“Yes! Yes!” Riah clawed at her headboard.

With my hands on her hips, I roughly thrust forward as she attempted to buck back. That headboard would not make it. The frame of the bed had already cracked several times. I’d pay for it with no problem. I halfway expected it to happen anyway. When she and I sex, we usually break something.

Riah and I have an agreement. She is a wolf as well. We are not mated with one another. We sincerely don’t want to be. Still, the sex we have is amazing, so occasionally that when the need arises, we can call on one another to scratch each other’s back.

She continued to throw it back burying her head into the mass of sheets below us. I could hear her growl. Her claws extended, shredding the material that she so desperately clung to. I came, pulling out, and slapping her ass cheeks with the head of my dick. I hate doing this. The orgasm feels different. I cannot impregnate Riah, but she still insists that I do it like this.

“Were you mad about something?” she asks, flipping around onto her back.

  “No, why do you ask?”

“You were fucking me like you were angry?”

  “We always fuck like that.”

“No, it was different.” I waved off her last comment. I knew it was a frustrated fuck, but I didn’t want to talk about it, mainly because I was still frustrated. I just got the sexual frustration handled.

  “Nasha came to me.”

  “Really? What did she say?”

“That this would be our last time. She said you found your mate. Were you planning to tell me?”

“Of course I will when I find her.”

  “Wait, what?”

“I have met a girl recently, but she is not my mate. She is… she’s something else.” Riah got up from the bed and walked over towards me. Her hand caressed my face. She smiled bitterly.

“I can smell her on you. She has affected you.”

  “She causes me visions.”

“The only person who could do something like that Ozni would be blood-related or mate.”

“Riah, what makes you such an expert on this? The girl isn’t even a wolf!” Why do I have to keep explaining this to people? It’s common sense! She can’t be my mate if she isn’t a wolf. For other wolves, this would be no big deal. I am an Alpha. Nasha would reserve the finest Alpha bitch she could for me, not some clumsy human girl with paint under her nails.

“I’ve seen it before. The heart will always want what it wants O. Your heart wants her.”

“Yeah, well people in hell want ice water.”

I left Riah with some cash to get a new bed, and that was the end of that. I would never expect Riah of all people to push the idea of me mating with anyone, let alone mating with a human.

I didn't go back to the mansion. I need some time before I endured Cara again. Hopefully, Edric would have something to help suppress her scent for the sake of the colony. Besides, I had to inform him of my findings on Lystra.

I found Edric in his lab dropping blood into several vials waiting for a reaction. He was fascinated with Lystra’s case being that it was the first of it’s kind. Never had a human reacted to wolf serum so violently.

“Edric, I may have good news for you.”

  “I’m listening.”

“Cara explained to me that Lystra was medicated as a child all the way until adulthood. It was a holistic medicine, purple and a small vial. Sound familiar?”

  “Wolf’s Bane.”

One of the key elements in the assassination of our kind was witch’s potion called Wolf’s Bane. In heavy dosage, it was lethal and damn near untraceable in any drink. It was our version of “damned if you lived, damned if you don’t”. Humans could drink it and would be sick for a day or two, while we died within the hour. Some fools believe that small dosages could cure you of your shifting powers. It could delay your development but never cure it. You could still pass it on to your children.

“Shit!” Edric said, dropping his tool. He snapped his gloves off and disposed of them.

“This will be tough news for them both. Anton had his heart set on a family.”

“I know. We will do what we can to help.” I hesitated before I spoke again.

“That’s not the only reason I came here tonight, doc.”

  “What’s the problem?”

“I need a suppressant. It’s for Cara. Her scent is driving me– I mean the village crazy.”

“I see Artemis has finally complained to you.”

“He’s spoken to you about this?”

“Yes, he was the first to come in with complaints of smelling an alluring female in heat. What disturbed him the most was that the smell was clearly human. He thought that maybe sleeping with her might knock some the pressure off. He knew that would be disrespectful to his mate.

“AND HIS ALPHA!” I growled. Edric smiled at me.

“Uh huh, just what I thought.” I looked at Edric frustrated. I knew. What he was going to tell me, but I didn't want to hear it.

“Mate with her,” he said it like it was an obvious choice.

  “I don’t want a mate right now.”

“Ozni, I say this as a friend and as a medical professional. There is no cure and no suppressant for what is going on. You have smelled women before yes?”

  “Yes.”

“Has it ever been this strong?”

  “No.”

“Because what is rightfully yours is calling for you. Save yourself some trouble and start the damn process.” With that, Edric went back to cleaning up his supplies.

I returned home to the smells of warm food in the air. I followed the scent to the kitchen. Cara was making pa
ncakes, eggs and two steaks were in the oven. She peeked over her shoulder.

“Oh, somebody’s doing the walk of shame,” she teased. I was familiar with the term.

“A lot of unexpected events happened last night.”

  “Hey, that’s your business, Alpha.”

  “Actually, it’s your business too.”

  “How so?”

“The other wolves can sense your presence. You need to meet with them.” She turned off the fire and met me with the wooden spoon in her hand.

“All of them?” She spoke with the spoon making a giant circle. It flung bits of scrambled egg on the floor.

“Yes. A town meeting has been set for the next hour.” I said, checking my watch. I needed to shower and change.

  “Wait!” she came after me.

“You can’t just tell me these things last minute.” She jabbed me in the chest with the spoon. I snatched it from her and snapped it in half on principal.

“Do not do that again. The meeting was scheduled late last night. I told you as soon as I saw you. Eat and get dressed. I make it a habit of being prompt.”

Arrogant son of a bitch, I heard her say to herself.

“Yes, I am. Now hurry up!” I chuckled before prepping myself for an interesting morning.

“We have never allowed humans on the premises unless they were to be mated. Why is she here now?”

She like don’t have no damn name. Cara thought to herself. I remained a straight face. Her irritation was amusing. The meeting to introduce Cara to the pack was going exactly how I thought it would. It was an ongoing series of questions and side ramblings.

“A unique situation has presented itself. Our brother Anton has selected a mate. His mate was attacked along with Cara. We are providing our excellent health care to them both.”

“What were they attacked by?” Mila asked.

“A vampire. He has been handled thus our main concern is now the health of Cara and Lystra. I will let Cara speak a few words on her own behalf.” I stepped back and grabbed Cara’s hand, pulling her to the podium.

Her sneakers squeaked as her feet dragged. She looked beautiful. She chose a relaxed look. Black Nike leggings, a short-sleeved white t-shirt, and her hair pulled back into a swinging ponytail. She looked out amongst the crown of multi-shaded people.

“I have a deep honor and respect for the things you do, with no recognition from the world. I don’t want to cause harm. I am simply here for my friend until Anton steps into his place as her mate. When Alpha gives me the green light, I’m gone. I will speak nothing of the things I hear or see. I’ve signed documentation proving that.”

She began to move herself away from the podium, but Hailey’s hand went sailing into the air. I turned Cara around so she could see.

  “Yes?”

“What’s your favorite color?” The room broke out into hushed laughter. Cara visibly relaxed.

“I’m a painter, so it's kind of hard to choose. If I had to, I’d lean toward blue.” Hailey happily sat down, and another hand popped up.

“While you are here would you be interested in temporary employment? We could use an art teacher for our afterschool programs.” Artemis questioned. I huffed. This was a test question more than a genuine offer. We all had roles in this pack. That is how we kept an efficient and productive community.

“Yes, I would really like that. It would be nice to speak with you all more often.” Her smile was genuine, and Artemis approved. Several more hands popped up asking Cara questions about her paintings and her life before she arrived to our land. The meeting ended with a small lunch amongst the pack. Hailey made sure that Cara sat right by her.

“Did you dye your hair that color?”

“No, I just can’t always find where the paint lands. You know?”

“Oh, right.” She leaned in to whisper to Cara. I think she forgets that I can hear everything.

“How do you like living with, Alpha?” Cara looked over at me smirked.

“You mean Sir Grump?” Hailey gasped and giggled.

“He’s ok. He’s very respectful.” Hailey was a little disappointed with this response.

I already told you I am not trying to mate with her, I spoke to Hailey in her head. She frowned harder. I gave her a look, and she straightened out.

She’s perfect for you, Hailey responded. I watched Evan give his mate a pensive glare. She changed her choice of subject.

“Every Thursday the ladies of Arnoux meet. It’s nothing formal just a chance to take break a from our pups. Let our hair loose. I would love it if you came. Maybe we can do one of those paint and sip thingies.”

“That sounds like a lot more fun than what I normally do in that mansion. Count me in.”

  Lystra

It has been a week or so since I was bitten. I can partially shift now, but we are still waiting on word from Edric as to why I reacted to Anton’s serum so violently. When Edric finally called us to come and see him, it was a relief and a burden. On the one hand, the solution could be simple. On the other hand, we could find ourselves in conundrum much like before. I’d had enough with making such dramatic life choices. At this point, the hardest decision I wanted to make was what I was wearing the next day.

We met Edric at the hospital both anxious and praying for the best. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life only able to change partially. We were in Edric’s lab. Anton chose to stand behind me, and I chose the swivel chair that was available.

“So, we did some digging, and we found out why you reacted the way you did. Do you want the good news or the bad news first?” Edric sighed.

“Just give it to me straight, doc,” I said. Anton put his hand on my shoulder in support.

“Your mother gave you a daily dose of Aconitum. In large doses, it would kill you. In small dosages, it kept you from turning. You were born a wolf. Receiving Anton’s serum full blast caused you to react violently because over the years you became naturally allergic to it.”

“What do we do now? I want to be Anton’s mate.”

“You are his mate. Enough serum penetrated you to maintain his mark.” He seemed hesitant about his next words.

“What are you not saying, Edric?”

“Carrying his pups will be harder. It will take up to a year of dialysis before you can successfully conceive. Even then it’s still only a 40% chance you‘ll carry them to term. I’m sorry.” I felt my own heartbreak.

“We still have a chance though?” I asked, pushing my pessimism to the side.

“We are undoing at least 11 years of damage to your body. It’s not going to be easy, but it is possible.”

  “Then let’s do it.”

“Wait. We should talk about this.” Anton spoke up. I looked at Anton confused.

“Take your time making a decision. My office is always open to you two,” he said before gathering his files and leaving his lab. We were not far behind him. Our trip to Anton’s home on the estate was short and quiet. I honestly didn’t understand why he would feel hesitant by

“You have put your body through enough. You don’t have to do this.”

  “Do you not want pups?”

“Of course I do. I just want you more. I don’t want to lose you behind this.”

“Before all of this came crashing down on me, I had dreams. I wanted to be a mom one day. I just never thought I’d meet the right man. Then you came along. Now you want to tell me that I can’t have kids. It’s not fair.”

“Sometimes we don’t get to choose our fate. If we are blessed with pups ok, and if we don’t have pups, we will still be blessed because we have each other. Let’s not push our luck. Lystra, I need you to side with me on this.”

“I can’t say yes, but I can’t say no either. This is a lot to take in. Just give me some time.”

  “I can do that.”

“Good because I need you to do one other thing. Can you take me off of the estate?”

  “You need a b
reak from the wolf life already?”

“No, I need to ask my mother a lot of questions,” I said, grabbing a few snacks. I knew we were a while away from the city, so I packed a meal or two. I was hungry as hell.

  O

I came across Cara blaring music loudly as she painted. She wore a denim button-up and white shorts underneath it. Honestly, they really could’ve been underwear. They were tight and cut into her meaty cheeks. As she moved, her fleshed jiggled. She stopped painting for a second. Her thoughts were invading my own. She imagined my fingers exploring her pussy until they were drenched. A chill spread through her body as she thought of me eating her from behind. I swallowed hard. I was so lost in her fantasy that I could almost taste her. I licked my lips, and she moaned. Her scent filled the room.

I reached out and touched her.

“Oh my god!” I scared her knocking us both out of the fantasy.

“Shit, I know this is not my house but could you knock? I mean just as a warning you know.”

I wanted to respond, but my attention was solely on the fat print of her swollen pussy lips in the front of her shorts. It didn’t help that they were slightly damp. A detail only my wolf senses could pick up on. I placed my hands in the pockets of my sweats, discreetly squeezing my dick. He needed to take his ass to sleep. When I was sure I had gotten myself together, I spoke.

“Yes, I am sorry. Are you ok?”

“I’m good. Did you need something? Oh God, is Lystra ok?”

“She’s fine. I would like to make you an offer in exchange for something.”

“I’m listening.” She raised her eyebrow and crossed her arms. Paint flecks decorated her cheeks, hands, and torso. My eyes traveled down to her pussy print, which was sucking up most of the fabric of her shorts. Focus.

“I would like for you to paint my pack.”

“You want me to paint?” She seemed in disbelief.

“I’ve seen some of your work through your website. I think artwork of your caliber would be a wonderful addition to our collection. You seem fascinated with the compound.”
