  PRAYER AND GUIDANCE

  68. WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

  What a friend we have in Jesus,

  All our sins and grieves to bear!

  What a privilege to carry

  Everything to God in prayer!

  Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

  Oh, what needless pain we bear,

  All because we do not carry

  Everything to God in prayer!

  Have we trials and temptations?

  Is there trouble anywhere?

  We should never be discouraged—

  Take it to the Lord in prayer.

  Can we find a friend so faithful?

  Who will all our sorrows share?

  Jesus knows our every weakness;

  Take it to the Lord in prayer.

  Are we weak and heavy-laden?

  Cumbered with a load of care?

  Precious Savior, still our refuge—

  Take it to the Lord in prayer.

  Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

  Take it to the Lord in prayer!

  In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,

  Thou wilt find a solace there.

  Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised

  Thou wilt all our burdens bear;

  May we ever, Lord, be bringing

  All to Thee in earnest prayer.

  Soon in glory bright, unclouded,

  There will be no need for prayer—

  Rapture, praise, and endless worship

  Will be our sweet portion there.

  69. GOD’S WAY UP

  Refrain:

  God’s way up, Is down upon your knees

  If you want the crown of glory, you must bow before the King;

  Have a servant heart, and all the world would see

  You work harder and harder

  Trying to succeed

  You forget that our needs are met

  When we lean on Jesus, and let Him lead us -{Refrain}

  There is a throne of honor, meant for those who serve,

  Those who serve the LORD our KING

  70. SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

  Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!

  That calls me from a world of care,

  And bids me at my Father's throne

  Make all my wants and wishes known.

  In seasons of distress and grief,

  My soul has often found relief

  And oft escaped the tempter's snare

  By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

  Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!

  The joys I feel, the bliss I share,

  Of those whose anxious spirits burn

  With strong desires for thy return!

  With such I hasten to the place

  Where God my Savior shows His face,

  And gladly take my station there,

  And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

  Thy wings shall my petition bear

  To Him whose truth and faithfulness

  Engage the waiting soul to bless.

  And since He bids me seek His face,

  Believe His Word and trust His grace,

  I'll cast on Him my every care,

  And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

  May I thy consolation share,

  Till from Mount Pisgah's lofty height,

  I view my home and take my flight:

  This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise

  To seize the everlasting prize;

  And shout, while passing through the air,

  "Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer.

  71. I WAS WEAK AND WEARY

  I was weak and weary, I have gone astray

  Walking in the darkness, I couldn’t find my way;

  Then a light came shining, to lead me from despair

  All my sins forgiving me, and I was free from care

  Refrain

  I found the answer, I learned to pray

  With faith to guide me, I found my way;

  The sun is shining, for me each day

  I found the answer, I learned to pray

  I was sad and lonely, all my hopes are gone

  Those were long and weary, I couldn’t carry on;

  Then I found the courage, to keep my head up high,

  Once again am happy and here is the reason why. {Refrain}

  Keep your Bible with you, read it every day,

  Always count your blessings and do not stop to pray

  Learn to keep believing, and faith will see you through

  Only call to Jesus and He will answer you. {Refrain}

  72. ARE YOU DISCOURAGED

  Are you discouraged, over burden with fear?

  Helpless and hopeless, with no helper near

  Though you are lonely, and pass ways are dried

  Jesus is thinking, He’s thinking of you

  Voices ask: ‘can God save me,

  From the troubles that caged my life?’
