The Marriage Rival: An Office Romance Page 16

by Kat T. Masen

“Because I could have lost you. I’m so fucking in love with you, it hurts.”

“Ditto.” I smile. “Now, make me come because I’m dying.”

He focuses his attention back on my lips, kissing my mouth with urgency and leaving me without a single breath to catch. My nails claw across his back, which I am sure are leaving marks.

With every move Haden makes, I fall deeper under his spell, allowing him to ravage my body to make up for the time lost.

I’m begging my body to hold on and last just a few minutes longer as he continues to fondle my breasts, while biting his lip. I can see he is awfully close.

My phone begins to ring on the vanity. I brought it in here in case of an emergency if Gemma needs us. We both stop and look at the number. It’s Katrina Mayflower.

“I have to take this,” I tell him.

“Presley, you’re kidding me, right? My dick is inside you.”

  “Hello, Katrina?”

I don’t give Haden a chance to say anything, ignoring his hands on my hips as he continues to grind me slowly.

“Hi, Presley, just a quick call. I’m about to take off. Look, your pitch was one of the best I’ve heard. My lawyers have read the contract, and I’m all yours.”

My muscles tighten from excitement causing me to almost drop the phone into the water. “Katrina, you don’t understand how excited I am to work with you. We’re going to do great things.”

“I know you will.” I can almost hear her smile over the phone. “Listen, I have to go. I’ll be in LA next week, so I’ll get my assistant to arrange a meeting.”

  “Sounds perfect.”

I hang up the phone, clasping it to my chest with a surge of happiness.

“Did you hear that? We signed Katrina Mayflower!”

Haden stares back with a knowing grin. “You, baby. You did it.”

“There’s so much to do. My God, Clint is going to be in heaven editing her pieces, and Maria… she’s her biggest fan.”

  “Presley?”

“Hmm?” I murmur, lost in thought.

“Can I at least make you come first?”

I don’t even respond, realizing he’s still inside of me. I place the phone back on the vanity.

This man wants only me at this moment, and I will do every damn thing in my power to please him. I continue to grind him, arching my back as I demand him to blow inside me. My blood is pumping hard, and every single part of me tingles in a mad delight as my body combusts beneath him. I call his name repeatedly, loudly, wishing this moment won’t end.

Haden has a desperate need to control the moment, holding back his impending orgasm until it finally gets the better of him. The grip of his hands is tight against my waist as his body slams into me until his moans slow down and his hips follow suit.

His head falls back against the rim of the tub, both of us out of breath.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect reunion.

I might have been lost, but all along, home is waiting for me.

I want to go back to LA, start our life as a family in our brand-new home. I desperately want to hold Masen in my arms and make more memories.

But most importantly, I want to begin the road to recovery. Grieve, take the baby steps to empower myself, and soon, grow our beautiful family with the one man who loves me more than I love myself at times.

  Haden Cooper, aka my #jerk.

  Twenty-One

  Haden

  Six Months Later…

Marshall has been busting my ass for the last three hours.

We’ve run through the budget, our current shares in the market, and even Lex looked exhausted after Marshall gave us his quarterly projections, which involve expanding the business yet again.

“We’re at capacity,” I warn him.

“We’ve got interest, Cooper. The European market is the romance capital. How’s your Italian?” he jokes, patting me on the back then turning to Lex. “C’mon, Edwards, will you get this guy to relax?”

Lex’s vein on his forehead almost pops out of his head when Marshall mentions Europe. Yes, the market is huge. We are at capacity with staff, especially since we hired a new Editor-in-Chief at Indie Press which cost us a small fortune. Our profit’s high but fuck me—this man pushes my goddamn limits.

There’s a knock on the door, Presley standing with a gracious smile in that hot little red number she is wearing which she knows gets me hard every goddamn time.

  “Good afternoon, gentlemen.”

Lex stands, kissing Presley on the cheek. “Aren’t you supposed to be with Charlie? What’s wrong? Is everything okay?”

Presley rests her hand on his shoulder, attempting to calm him down. “She’s fine. We had lunch next to the most adorable baby place. She’s home, resting.”

Lex sits back down, though he’s still tense. Charlie is ready to pop at any moment, and he is worried every second he is away from her. Presley and Noah are on standby, and at times, Noah’s worse than Lex. Although Charlie is his cousin, he treats her like a sister.

Charlie’s pregnancy has flown by fast, and I’m glad Presley and Charlie have fixed things between them. It makes Lex and my life easier.

“Presley, sit, please,” Marshall says, gesturing toward the empty chair.

She wouldn’t interrupt us unless it is important.

Shit, did something happen with Masen?

Calm the fuck down, she looks happy.

“Thank you, Henderson, but I just wanted to see what time this meeting finishes?”

I wish it would fucking end now.

  “Everything okay?” I ask, worried.

“I have something urgent I need to discuss with you when you’re done.”

“I’m about done.” Lex stretches in his chair.

“I just want to run over one more thing,” Marshall says, head down reading a contract.

“Another hour or so. Mr. Yukon is going to teleconference in. There’s a supply-chain issue in China, and print costs look set to rise,” I tell her, placing my head in my hands to reduce the beginning of a headache. “Would you mind having Maria send in more coffee?”

“Certainly, Mr. Cooper. I shall await your presence.”

Mr. Cooper. My head lifts immediately, just in time to catch a glimpse of her walking away with a flirtatious wink. She only ever calls me that in front of people if she wants to fuck. I did have a headache. My dick stirs beneath my pants.

Fuck it! I want to screw my wife now.

“I’ll be back in a moment.”

Lex lifts his head with a knowing gaze. “Ten minutes, Cooper. Make it pretty damn quick.”

The fucker knows what I am doing. Thank God Marshall takes the opportunity to answer a call on his phone.

I rush out of the room toward the main foyer not sure where Presley went, but in the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of her entering the janitor’s closet.

Smiling at Maria, I ask her to make sure coffee is served in my office. She kindly obliges, and the second she abandons the reception desk and is out of sight, I open the door to the janitor’s closet.

The room is dimly lit, a hanging bulb the only illumination. I shut the door as Presley throws herself on me, slamming her lips to mine, nearly knocking all wind from my lungs. I hardly have a moment to react before she presses her tongue to the seam of my lips, delving inside my mouth.

Pulling away, she pants. “I’m ovulating. I don’t know how long this window is, but you need to own it.”

“I can’t just switch it on at a moment’s notice,” I lie, just to see how far she’ll go.

“Me masturbating in the shower with my white t-shirt on.”

  Bitch.

  She got me good.

I pull her dress up, pushing her panties aside while she unbuckles my belt, tossing my pants and boxers to the floor.

  “Turn around,” I demand.

With my cock resting in my hand—hard as fucking hell—I stroke myself as I spread her cheeks, admiring the beau
tiful sight in front of me. I slide myself into her pussy, groaning as the sensation ripples through me.

Lex’s voice echoes in my head, “Ten minutes, Cooper. Make it pretty damn quick.”

Argh, I squeeze my eyes shut, pumping myself hard, skipping all foreplay and gentle lovemaking. She wants to be fucked hard and fast, and that’s exactly what I’m going to give her.

She is so fucking wet, wanting this as much as I do. Her hands clutch onto the closet door for support until her moans become harder, and her walls contract against my hard dick.

  Fuck.

  I’m done.

I’m seeing stars, grabbing her hips with force as I ram her harder one more time. My body follows in a euphoric state, taking my breath away as I try to calm down.

  “Thank you,” she whispers.

“You’re welcome, you freak.” I pull my pants up, strapping my belt back on, then plant a kiss on her shoulder. “Now, I have to go back.”

“Go, go... I’ll see you tonight. Round two?”

I stop just shy of the door watching her fix her dress. She lifts her head, her beautiful face gazing back at me with a beaming smile.

“How did I get so lucky to have a wife like you?”

She moves closer to me, running her hand along my tie and fixing it straight. “You made my life a living hell, jerk. It was impossible to ignore you.”

I graze my thumb against her bottom lip, watching her lips part with an angsty moan.

“Rubber and glue, baby. I’m the jerk, and you’ve crowned yourself the bitch.”

Even in her heels, I tower over her. She tilts her head, her breath brushing against my ear. “Watch yourself, Mr. Cooper. You know what happens when you anger the beast.”

Oh, I fucking know what happens.

My dick ends up right back inside her.

Because, hey, I’m the jerk, right, and that’s the kind of thing guys like us do.

  She called me Alex.

No one calls me that anymore.

I’m known as Lex in the business world because of my ruthless behavior. I have been compared to that of Lex Luthor. Overhearing a bunch of interns call me it once, instead of firing them, I enjoyed them being afraid of me. Not long after that, I demanded that my family stop calling me Alex because it was a shadow of who I used to be.

I’m no longer the Alex Edwards she knew. But this isn’t the moment to correct her because her other words linger, a high school fling.

Charlotte tries to push her way past me, but I grab her arm again. She doesn’t turn around. Instead, she stands completely still with her back to me.

  “Is he your boyfriend?”

I don’t know why I ask, maybe it’s the sadist in me. I know it will infuriate her, but the fucker was all over her, and knowing it’s her now, I want to go back and beat the living shit out of him. Drag him out of this place and demand he return what belongs to me.

“Excuse me?” She turns around abruptly, blazing eyes with her nostrils flaring like a bull ready to attack. “First of all, you have no right asking me that. It’s none of your business who I’m fucking, Alex.”

My blood boils as the words ricochet like bullets spraying against my bruised ego. So what, she’s fucking him? Had she turned into a cold-hearted woman fucking men without attachment?

I’m losing control, ready to walk over and show him who the fuck she belongs to, but as I bow my head to calm the storm lashing within me, the shimmer of a large diamond catches my attention.

My eyes widen, my stomach twisting in a gut-wrenching knot as my heart pumps hard while my adrenalin spikes. Without hesitation, I yank her hand toward me to make sure what I’m seeing is indeed a ring on her finger.

  “What’s this? You’re engaged?”

She allows her hand to linger for a moment, but then, with force, she pulls it back. Her face looks slightly guilty, then it quickly transforms into anger.

  “Julian is my fiancé.”

“Your fiancé? So, you’re marrying that jerk?”

“Typical Alexander Edwards. It’s all about you, right? Remember, you left me without a goodbye, without an explanation. I’ve moved on just like you did with her. Goodbye, Alex. Have a nice life.”

I loosen my grip, stunned by her words as she storms off back to her table. Resting my back on the wall, I close my eyes for a brief moment to compress the rage consuming me. My pulse is elevated, and my vision is clouded as the pounding inside my head is dominating my normally rational thoughts. With my heart still beating erratically on the verge of combustion, my feet move on their own accord back to my table. I need to end this meeting now.

But like a force of nature, I’m drawn back to her again, unable to turn away. Charlotte sits back down before leaning in, whispering something in his ear. He places some bills on top of the black check holder, and they both stand. She grabs her purse and starts walking toward the main door. For a split second, her eyes meet mine, and undoubtedly something passes between us.

The same look which passed between us nine years ago.

The guy grabs her hand, holding it firmly.

My anger is on the brink again, losing control, my temper getting the better of me. I need to find a way to talk to her, to get her alone and to have that chance to explain everything. I’m certain if she knows my side of the story she will forgive me, understand my mistakes and regrets.

In a moment of clarity, it all starts to make sense.

I rule the business world, I am on top of my game. I have everything I want, at least everything I thought I wanted. Now, it stands before me, the one thing I never knew I desired more than life itself.

The one thing I would give up everything I own for.

It’s no longer a figment of my imagination.

I touched her, felt that surge that no other woman in this lifetime will make me feel.

It’s Charlotte who has been missing all along, and now, I’ll stop at nothing until she’s completely mine.
