  Chapter Seventy Eight

  Every inch of Alexa's body hurt: her arms, her face, her ribs, even the foot she used on Lonnie. She wondered if she had cracked a toe. Probably couldn't even walk. Wrapped up like a birthday present and worrying about being able to walk. She giggled. Her mind wandered. How long would she be alone? She liked being alone, it was so quiet. God, if only she didn't hurt so much, she could sleep. Maybe Bobby would find her. She frowned, trying to remember why she thought Bobby might find her.

  Chapter Seventy Nine

  As he started the Astro, Bobby noticed the clock on the dash. Forty minutes since they left the office. It seemed like longer, maybe because it had been an unusually busy lunch hour.

  He went north on sixth to Rhode Island, then back down Rhode Island toward Logan Circle. Guam was a short, narrow street, almost an alley. He missed it the first time and had to circle back. The noon hour traffic was heavy. Bobby was surprised to see that the block was in a fairly busy part of Northeast; a steady stream of cars roared by on Rhode Island and there were open stores and a few pedestrians across the street. He found a parking place a block away.
