Unleashed (Unmemorable Series Book 2) Page 28

by A. P. Jensen

She stared at the bedroom with blind eyes. Was he saying...?

Cain stretched out full length beside her, hot breath against her neck, arms wrapped tight around her middle.

  “Cain?” she asked, voice shaking.

“I’ll never go back to Jane and I was an asshole for saying what I did. I hate that you’ve bonded so fast with the Unmemorables. I want you all to myself. I said that stupid shit about you being a killer to hurt you. I saw it on your face and I didn’t fix it and then it was too late. Guilt’s been eating me alive and I couldn’t figure out why. Do you know what it feels like for something to gnaw at your soul day and night and there’s nothing you can do to make it go away?”

  “Cain...”

“Fuck that braid shit, you’re giving me your blood every five days, you get me?”

  “But...”

Cain raised his head and looked down at her. “That’s not negotiable.”

  “There’s things you don’t know...”

  He tensed. “Are you okay?”

  “Yes, I...”

His hands went to the waistband of her yoga pants and yanked down.

“Wait! You...” Her words were muffled as he yanked her sweatshirt over her head.

Suddenly her hands were free of the cuffs and she was in contact with Cain’s hot skin and rigid muscles. He sank his hand into her hair, gripped and slanted his mouth on hers at the same time that he slid inside of her. She wasn’t wet enough so he nipped his way down her neck. It finally registered that she was with Cain and he wanted her, loved her, still wasn’t close to letting go. He groaned as he worked his way inside of her almost desperately. They didn’t speak as their bodies moved together. She lost herself in him as his mouth and hands moved over her, reclaiming her. Too soon, she was reaching her climax and he urged her on, pinning her thighs wide as he pounded into her. He gasped her name as he came and shuddered as he splayed over her, his hand cupping the back of her head.

When rational thought returned, she tensed. Was he squishing the baby? Before she could ask him to scoot to the side, he did so, but tossed his thigh and arm over her and tucked his face against her neck again.

  “Tell me,” he murmured.

Her breath caught. Did he know? “Tell you what?”

  “Have you Seen anything else?”

She took a deep breath and explained the vision with Delilah. Cain looked stricken and she ran her hands over his face.

  “You died?” he whispered.

She paused. “I guess when I’m in someone else’s body it affects me as well and . . . .”

“You’re never doing it again. Ever.”

“But if we want to get them back...”

“Angel isn’t patient. He’ll resurface. You do not sacrifice yourself.”

  “But Maggie...”

His face was pained. “She’s tough and smart. She’ll find a way.”

She hesitated and then, “You never told me about Angel, Vick and your mom.”

“You think I wanted you to know I’m related to that sick fuck?”

  She blinked. “Oh.”

“He’s my half-brother and I’m going to kill him.”

Cain’s face was implacable and she believed him. She turned so they were facing each other. Cain’s hold changed so he could press her as close as possible. She met his eyes and took a deep breath.

  “You love me?”

  “Do you doubt it?”

She splayed her hands on his chest and whispered, “No.”

He pressed a firm kiss on her swollen lips. “I love you, Raven.”

“I love you too,” she said and then, “Something else happened.”

His hand cupped the back of her neck. “What?”

  “I’m pregnant.”

Cain’s expression didn’t alter at all. He kind of just froze in place.

“Did you hear me?” she asked and drew back a little. His hands flexed on her, holding her in place. “We used condoms most of the time, but...”

His mouth curved and she stared at him.

“Why are you grinning at me like that?!”

“You’re mine,” he said, voice deep with satisfaction.

“I’m not mommy material!” she said and pushed against his chest when he leaned toward her. “We’re on the brink of war and I’m an Unmemorable! What if the kid can’t remember me?”

“We’ll deal with that when the time comes.” He ran his hand down to her stomach and closed his eyes. “The kid binds you to me. Let’s get married tonight.”

She gaped at him. Cain laughed and sat up. She grabbed his arm, afraid he might start getting dressed.

  “We can’t get married!”

He reached over to the nightstand and opened the drawer. “We’re in love, you’re pregnant with my child, you’re never gonna be with anyone else so . . . I don’t see what the protest is about.”

She sat up and brushed her tangled hair back. “The protest is about...”

On the palm of his hand was a small square box. Her heart thumped so hard in her chest, it was painful. He opened the box and revealed a solitaire ring on a platinum bland. The ring sparkled in the dim light and her throat went dry. She didn’t know anything about diamonds, but it was large and because it was Cain, she knew it was real. She lifted her hazel eyes to his blue ones.

“I was going to propose on Christmas, which is why I was such a dick,” he said.

Her mouth opened and closed soundlessly. He took the ring from the box and slid it onto her left ring finger. Then he grabbed her face and kissed her.

  “Yes, I accept,” he said.

  “But I didn’t...”

“Yes, you did. You give me a child, I give you a ring. That’s how it works.”

  “But the Council and . . . .”

He clasped her face between his hands. “This is all that matters, you got me? Whatever comes, we’ll deal, but this is permanent. You with me?”

Tears filled her eyes and she nodded. Cain pulled her back down on the bed and kissed away her tears.

“We have to break the curse for the kid.”

“I know and there’s no leads.”

“We’ll find a way,” Cain said a moment before his mouth covered hers again.

It was past midnight and three orgasms later when something tugged her out of sleep. She groaned and burrowed into Cain who tightened his hold on her.

  What? she asked grumpily.

Did he like the cuffs? Jackie asked.

I’m gonna get you back for that.

So, can we assume he isn’t dead, you both got laid and we can tell Gerald he’s going to have Cain Henson as his new son-in-law? Bam Bam drawled.

I’m not getting married, she said, even as her diamond winked in the moonlight.

Pop’s not gonna like that, Jackie said.

  I don’t care.

Glad for you, baby, Bam Bam said.

Thanks. You guys can leave now, she said with a lazy smile. I don’t think we’re gonna leave for a few days.

We don’t want to hear that, Bones said testily.

And if you think we’re going anywhere, you’re crazy, Jackie said. We’ll take shifts.

You don’t have to do that.

  You’re family.

Those two words warmed her heart and she rested her face against Cain’s chest. She didn’t know what would happen tomorrow but she knew three things. One, she was pregnant with the first Unmemorable to be born in twenty-six years. Two, Cain Henson and the Unmemorables loved her and would be at her side no matter what came next. Three, she would get back each of the hostages and Angel would die.
