The Secret History of Hatty Ha Ha ... Begins Page 42

‘Is it all in?’ she said, her voice trembling.

‘Nearly,’ he replied, moving in and out until she thought the pain was going to make her sob. Then he used the same rhythm he had done with his fingers. She held her breath as her insides were banged gently. ‘Are you okay?’

‘Yes,’ she said, still holding onto her breath, feeling him knock inside her.

Then he started to go faster and she knew she was in pain but she didn’t want to tell him to stop. Jake put his tongue deep into her mouth and let out a groan and scream simultaneously.

Hatty realised he must have come. She wanted him to pull it out but he wasn’t budging as he lay on top of her she said, ‘Is that all there is to it?’

‘What?’ he laughed and gently pulled out. She felt an almighty relief. ‘Did I hurt you?’

‘Not really,’ she said and didn’t know what to think. ‘It hurt. Does it always hurt?’

‘You’ll get used to it,’ he said and she noticed there was something gentle in his face as he smiled. ‘You’re amazing, do you know that?’

‘Is it supposed to be quick?’ she continued, not knowing if it was normal what they had done. ‘Or was that long? I don’t know. Was I okay?’

‘We just made love for the first time. It’s special, that’s all you need to know.’

Hatty started to laugh loudly. She couldn’t help it.

‘I don’t know why I made such a fuss about it,’ she yelped as tears started to fall from her eyes. Jake stared at her with a half-smile. ‘I’ve inserted more painful tampons!’

He didn’t know how to take her laughing. Jake was relieved she wasn’t crying but her sniggering moments after they made love made him wonder if she was indeed normal.

‘Sorry,’ she said, trying to stifle her laugh. ‘I’m scared of so many things and this wasn’t scary.’

‘Can you stop laughing? It’s making me feel a little odd,’ he honestly said. ‘People are supposed to cry from emotion not laughter after sex.’

‘We made love,’ she said and turned to stroke his face, resting her breasts on his arm and her face on his chest. ‘As long as you were happy, that’s what really matters and you know a lot more about this than I do.’

‘You don’t think sex with me is funny then? Or will you compare it to a painful tampon again?’

‘I thought for the past few weeks your penis was larger than I could handle,’ she said and placed her cheek on his chest. Jake wanted to smile at her comment wondering if she was being cute. ‘I thought of even buying a cucumber to stretch me out a bit.’

‘You really are quite odd,’ he said, laughing through his smile.

  ‘Can we do it again?’

‘Right now?’ He laughed even harder. ‘I need to get my wind back.’

  ‘How long will that take?’

‘I don’t know. I’ll tell you when I’m ready,’ he shrugged seeing her smile sweetly at him and wished he could do it again, there and now.

‘Next time, can we make love in the freshwater pool?’

She held on to his shoulders as he lowered her down onto him. Hatty was still a bit sore but this time she wanted to enjoy it. Jake pushed her up against the rock and she’d spread her legs so he could push inside her. This time, it felt deeper and she looked down, shocked at seeing his light brown hair rub against her jet black. His piston like penis pushing in and out. He was moving in and out and side to side.

Her face got hot as he put his finger on her clitoris and circled it faster. They’d waited an hour. He’d already licked in between her legs to prepare her and soothe the pain. Hatty felt liberated at having him do this to her in the day light and outside. Her swollen lips were taking him in as he pushed her thighs wider apart. she felt his sacks hit her bottom.

‘Jake,’ she said, one arm against the rock and the other holding onto his neck as he pushed deeper inside, all the time looking at what he was doing.

He bent down and sucked on one of her breasts then she felt the orgasm fire through her, squeezing hard onto his penis as she screamed out and he carried on pumping away until he grabbed her breast so tightly, groaning into her neck and shuddering immediately.

‘I love you,’ he said, trying to catch his breath. ‘I love you Ha Ha. I think I really do.’

Hatty smiled and kissed him very hard as they were still joined.

‘I love you too,’ she said. ‘I know I do.’

Hatty had fallen asleep after lunch as Jake walked down to the beach and took a swim in the cool sea. His head was all over the place. The last eighteen hours had left him confused and emotionally drained. As much as he tried, he couldn’t get his head around Philip being gay and Hatty covering for her friend. Jake wasn’t happy about Gabriel feeding Hatty shit information about him.

He lay on the sand, his hands behind his head as he felt the hot rays beat against his body, closing his eyes and thinking of making love to Hatty in the morning. The first time was quick, the second time was longer and he felt an intensity of passion he’d never experienced. She was willing to do anything he asked, anything he wanted to make him happy. Then he froze when he remembered he said he loved her and knew he shouldn’t have told her this, mislead her as he was going back to New York in February. He couldn’t see further than that.

Jake sat up and wondered what his father would think about Hatty and him, what people would think, and he started to worry. Until he made love to her, there was no consequence to what they were doing but now, he’d taken her virginity and maybe she’d want something more, some commitment he had no intention of giving.

He stood up and walked back into the sea, letting the waves lap over his head, wondering what Hatty would expect him to do.

Knowing it was probably the opposite of what he intended.

She tried not to feel scared when she saw him in the water, initially worried he was going to be swept away but she knew he was a strong swimmer. Hatty watched him on the beach through her binoculars, deep in thought and she knew something was bothering him. It crossed her mind if it was making love to her that had made him to subdued, if she had done something wrong and not known. But she was smart enough to know he went quiet after he told her he loved her and she said it back.

Big words she thought, but maybe with little sincerity behind his. Hatty looked between her legs remembering Jake being there. She felt a little sore but it didn’t hurt and she wanted him more.

After showering, she smothered herself in an odourless mosquito repellent. There was a bottle of lemon smelling perfume nearby so she sprayed it as not to gas Jake when he came back in. It was mid-afternoon and she wasn’t in the mood to do anything, just spend time with her new forlorn lover.

Except it’s not what she expected.

Hatty thought they’d be laughing when they made love for the first time, it would be a happy occasion not marred with a quarrel and certainly with her lover spending time alone on a beach.

A dark thought crossed her mind he had been with her, so therefore he didn’t want her any more. She knew there was a large probability it would happen, she knew of lots of people it happened to. Worried it may be the case, she wanted to make sure when he saw her she looked nice and happy.

Hatty wanted him to love her as much as she loved him and knew he might not.

Drying her hair with a towel then brushing it out, she felt sad and wanted to cry. She was scared the rest of the day would turn out bad. He’d see her and tell her it was all over. Her mind raced with sad things and before she knew it, she started to weep, upset about how she felt and remembering when Simon died, that moment when she found out knowing all was lost and she could never get it back.

Hatty put on an old dress and realised it didn’t matter how much she dressed up, tried to make herself look beautiful. The man she loved, after making love to him, didn’t want to be with her.

‘Silly, stupid girl,’ she said to herself, wiping her tears roughly away and shaking her head. ‘Time to grow up.’

Hatty walked down the stairs and put on her flip flops, going into her work room. She arranged the stock to go to the market the next day and the orders expected to be picked up. There was a mirror she was working on, quite large and it lay half done on the side. She tied up her hair and carved the waves gently on the bottom and was lost in her work for a moment, knowing this is what she could rely on to keep her company for the rest of her life, where no man could ever do that.

Hatty heard the back door close and she momentarily snapped out of her concentration, hearing his footsteps walk up the stairs. She stood silently wondering what he was thinking and what he was going to say.

‘Hatty!’ Jake called out and she heard the thunder of his feet come back down.

‘I’m here,’ she said, seeing her hands start to shake, scared he was going ruin the day after having a couple of hours thinking things through.

But she’d prepared herself the best she could. Her work room door was open and she didn’t want to turn around. She realised he was going to say or do something to hurt her. She wanted that part to go away and then she’d skip the pain which was coming her way.

‘That’s beautiful,’ she heard him say and immediately tears sprang to her eyes which she couldn’t wipe away. Hatty kept her head down hoping they’d drip to the floor. Then he touched her shoulder and gently stroked her neck. Hatty closed her eyes and gulped. ‘Ha Ha?’

  ‘Yes,’ she sniffed.

Jake turned her around and she quickly rubbed her eyes, smiling brightly at him as he stroked her face.

  ‘Why are you crying?’

‘Nothing,’ she shrugged and felt so much love for him, petrified he was going to hurt her. ‘Thinking things, you know how it is.’

‘About today?’ he said and she felt the pit of her stomach turn.

‘It’s fine Jake,’ Hatty gulped. ‘I know I’m not experienced and you said things you shouldn’t have. I don’t expect you to stay here if you don’t want to. Don’t feel obliged.’

‘What are you talking about?’ he frowned.

‘Just,’ she started to cry, she knew she had to tell him. ‘You see when I was with Simon I never told him I loved him in all the time we were together. I was scared if I did, he’d go away. But he did anyway. I know this isn’t forever between you and me. I don’t expect anything from you, I really don’t. You can go if you don’t want to stay here anymore. I won’t cause a fuss or be mean to you. I’ll understand, I really will.’

Hatty knew that was a big fat lie but realised she had to make him feel better.

‘I can’t promise you anything, you know that,’ he said and she did. ‘I don’t know what’s going on between us but all I do know, I want to be with you right now.’

Jake took her hand and walked her up the stairs, taking her into his bedroom. He pulled off her dress and sat her on the edge of the bed as he kneeled on the floor and kissed her on the lips, caressing and stroking her body very gently. Hatty wanted him so much, she pulled him onto the bed and kissed him as he pushed his way inside her, moving slowly.

They looked at each other for a moment and she knew, even if he didn’t want it to be, this was the closest thing ever to being in love she’d experience.

  Nineteen

‘And the quarrel was about?’ he drilled her in the car as she sat smiling at him. ‘Hatty we have to get our story straight.’

‘You thought I’d gone back on the deal about having people stay in the house and that’s why you went off in a huff,’ she said. ‘You thought I was being hypocritical though, personally, I think you were being highly oversensitive.’

‘I know what I saw,’ he said, feeling a little rise of jealousy. ‘What was he doing there last night?’

  ‘Talking shit.’

  ‘About me?’

‘I really like him as friend and I had someone different to talk to when we were away but nothing else. He doesn’t seem to trust you and-.’ Jake immediately put his foot on the brakes and stopped the car. ‘What’s wrong?’

‘And you listened to him?’ he said, trying to digest it

‘I know, typical man thinking they can tell me what to do,’ she shrugged.

He could see she was missing something out as she readjusted the straps of her dungarees.

  ‘Are you telling me everything?’

‘No,’ she said, looking into his eyes. ‘I’m not.’

‘What bits are you missing out?’

‘The bits that upset me,’ she said anxiously. ‘He cares, you see. He cares about me and my. . .’ Hatty took a deep breath. ‘… my mental and emotional well-being. Don’t go telling anyone about Philip. We’re going to have to make out Gabriel and I have split after he came all the way to see me or we’re still a couple.’

‘I’d prefer the split,’ he said, trying not to get agitated. ‘The way he touched you when I saw you together for the first time, it looked real.’

‘Then we did a good job. We’ll make out we’re friends and he can stay round Philip’s without anyone detecting anything. They really make a lot of noise in the bedroom. I hardly sleep when I have to stay the night.’ She blinked several times as Jake leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips, not wanting to laugh at her confused expression. ‘I might have to stay over depending on how Philip wants to play it but I’m going to sleep with ear plugs.’

‘No,’ he said, staring into her eyes and smiling. ‘The deal is I thought Gabriel was cheating on you and I’m being a very protective friend.’

‘I need to tell Philip what’s going on between us,’ she said. ‘I know I said I didn’t want anyone to know but then at least he can see I’m not letting him down. You don’t know how vicious people can be and he’s a very private man.’

‘Why doesn’t he just come out?’ he said, running his finger down her throat until it nestled in front of her bra. ‘It’s simple enough.’

‘This isn’t London or New York,’ Hatty replied, leaning forward and kissing his cheek gently. ‘This is where he wants to live and his dad wouldn’t be happy, so he has a secret. I told him if he didn’t want to marry me then he should marry Gina bitch Glory Glory and give her a life without sex plus make it hell to boot.’

‘You’re evil,’ he laughed and started to drive. ‘Poor Gina!’

‘She’s evil,’ mumbled Hatty. ‘And if you touch her again I’ll burn you alive.’

‘Threat taken,’ Jake said and glanced over at her pouting face. ‘Have I been the only man to have touched you since Simon?’

Her body became taut and noticed she turned away.

‘Yes,’ she eventually replied. ‘I didn’t want anyone else after Simon until I met you.’

Jake didn’t know what to think but smiled all the way to his father’s house.

When they parked the car and got out, Barney came running up to Hatty as she bent down and patted his head.

‘Barney boy,’ she said, smiling brightly at him. ‘Any guests I don’t like, will you bite?’ The dog barked back as he jumped in the air wanting to play. Hatty found a stick and threw it very far as the dog ran like crazy. ‘There’s a hill over there. He’ll slip but enjoy the climb back up.’

‘You are evil,’ he laughed and wanted to hold her hand or put an arm around her but he knew he couldn’t. They got to the front of the house and Jake heard a few voices. ‘We’re not the only ones invited.’

‘Great!’ she said and he noticed Hatty looked instantly upset. ‘I hate parties.’

‘You’re with me, you’ll like this one.’

  ‘Doubt it,’ she said sadly.

He wanted to give her a massive hug then realised keeping his hands off her might prove to be harder than he anticipated. Jake opened the door and she followed him in. There were people scattered on the balcony as Murray spotted them.

‘Here you are!’ he shouted, raising a glass in his hand standing behind the bar as Hatty pushed Jake forward.

He then noticed Gabriel and Philip on the other side o
f the pool.

‘How did you get that swollen eye?’ Hatty shouted out to Gabriel and promptly marched across to them.

Jake realised he forgot to tell her what he’d done.

‘Do you want to explain what happened this morning?’ his father said, putting a hand on his shoulder.

‘Not really,’ Jake replied and let out a little sigh wondering what she was going to do. The next thing he saw was her roaring with laughter as Philip smiled and Gabriel flashed Jake a dirty look before raising a glass to him. ‘We had a misunderstanding about the house rules.’

‘I see,’ said Murray. Jake turned to look at his father, recognising a few faces in the background including Philip’s parents. ‘And everything’s okay now?’

‘Yes,’ he said, pursing his lips tightly.

‘I see. You know Jake, you do need to apologise to Gabriel, if only as a matter of courtesy because you hit him in my home.’

‘Sure,’ he reluctantly replied and strolled slowly towards the three of them.

Hatty greeted him with a wide smile.

‘Well done, old man, for thumping the Spanish git,’ she laughed as Gabriel glared at Hatty. ‘You deserve it and you know you do.’

‘Now let’s all play nicely,’ said Philip frowning at all three of them. ‘Hatty’s told us the story and I think, for safety purposes, Hatty and Gabriel are finished. Jake thumped Gabriel for upsetting Hatty and we leave it at that.’

‘Do you think?’ said Gabriel, flinching when he touched his eye.

‘I’m really sorry,’ said Jake, feeling bad when he saw the large swollen lump.

‘Are you?’ hissed the angry Spanish man as Hatty grinned at Jake. ‘But she thinks it’s funny so that’s okay.’

‘Next time, call before you turn up,’ she said brightly and walked off towards the bar.

‘Don’t worry Jake, Gabriel’s going to keep out of your way until he goes,’ said Philip, smiling at Gabriel who Jake noticed, was watching Hatty.

‘I worry about her heart,’ Gabriel said, looking at Jake. ‘Just make sure you don’t do anything to hurt her or I’ll take her away for good.’
