Lucio is sitting beside my sleeping body. From the mouth of the tunnel I reach out and stroke his hair. I beg him not to come back here and witness what is bound to happen, now that Santiago will never speak an intelligible word again.
Lucio lays his cheek on my tranquil breast and says goodbye.
