He placed a soft kiss on her lips. “I would give you the world if I could.”
“You have and it’s perfect.” She kissed him again.
Little giggles reminded them they weren’t alone. He turned to see the children headed their way. Sage and Lula each held one of Emmarie’s hands as they walked beside her. The girls moved slowly to accommodate Sage’s shorter steps.
He held his breath and waited for the children to join them. He could tell Callie was doing the same. Before long Emmarie, Lula, and Sage stood in front of them. The oldest among them wore a serious expression.
“We’ve decided.”
“Okay?” Ominous much.
“Can I call you Mom and Dad?” Lula bounced on her toes.
“You weren’t supposed to ask that yet, Lu.” Emmarie rolled her eyes. “In case you didn’t figure it out, we decided you could adopt us. I want to call you Matt and Callie for now.”
“You can call us whatever you want.” He looked at Lula. “I’d love it if you wanted to call me Dad.”
“Same for me,” Callie said with a smile. “Except Mom of course.”
Matt held out his arm. “I think we should seal it with a group hug then celebrate with cocoa and cookies.” That’s exactly what they did.
He pulled the covers up making sure the kids were properly tucked in. As usual, he found Lula and Sage in bed with Emmarie. Matt wasn’t sure why they bothered giving them all their own rooms. They always ended up in Emmarie’s full size bed together. Callie said it was good training and eventually they’d stay where they left them.
He watched them sleep for a few moments. So much had changed over the past few years since Ella arrived in Sanctuary. Back then he’d just been happy to have his uncle back. Then his reclusive uncle formed his own pack and Matt gained pseudo aunts and uncles, cousins galore both blood and chosen. But as the pack continued to expand as more veterans and their families came looking for the acceptance and peace Sanctuary Pack had to offer, he never imagined Uncle Koda’s vision would yield Matt the one thing he wished he’d had for years... A mate and family of his own.
