The Return Page 12

by Nathan Valerio

The body started to crumble and I pulled the horn out and moved back before standing up returning to my normal human shape without the horn over my head.

The rhino was barely alive but since its core was cracked, it couldn’t support its body and would soon crumble.

It was a great opportunity to learn how rhinos really fight. I’d been wondering if there was anything specific I could do as a rhino, but I didn’t have to worry. All I needed to do was run in and ram into anything I felt like. That’s exactly what a rhino is, the huge horn was made for that and mine was made harder just to help me mimic that.

As the rhino nodded towards me, his body died.

You have learnt the class skill, rhino mode: rush

  Rhino Mode: Rush

  Basic Level 1

While in your rhino mode, you can mimic the rhino’s characteristic rush skill without getting any of the recoil damage you would have gotten from the impact.

Warning! If you miss your target and hit something too hard to break you could be stunned and will get double the damage you would get without the skill.

I couldn’t help laughing at this. A skill made for a tank class like my own. Not only that, I would also take no damage as long as I didn’t hit something too hard.

  “Hehehehehe Let the carnage begin.”

I dropped to all fours and started to rush into the crowd of monsters that were getting too close to the village walls.

  Greer PoV

How could it be true! There was no way those guys were normal. How could someone have so much power that a small crew controlling some robots could destroy a monster army like that?

I was holding on onto Nova for dear life as she sat on the strange robot and made it jump from one tree to the next. It was scary how calm she was. How could she remain so calm in that situation? Shooting monsters, telling my tribe to kill another. Was she really younger than me?

Could it be that she was so innocent that she couldn’t see what’s going on?

(Parental control censors all blood and gore. All she sees are monsters which have had the ugly lessened and for butchering monsters she is sent away or would see the drops magically appear after Techno does stuff to it.)

That crew was totally weird. I couldn’t wait until they left and I could live with my family in safety again.

  Annabeth PoV

Where was I? What’s was all that noise?

  Boom!

Bombs, where was I? In a fight with the clockworks?

No wait! I asked for the clockworks to save my family. That’s right, my family!

In seconds, my eyes shot open and I sat up in a bed only to feel the rocking of the ship and feel the pain of my wounds.

“This is... the ship?” I saw no one, but I heard running footsteps outside the room and a lot of shouting. A few minutes later I also heard a heavy cannon shot.

I got up from the bed and slowly walked to the door. I opened it and saw lots of tiger men running around with metal boxes and metal balls.

Walking out and to the end of the corridor the tigers didn’t even care about me and simply dodged me and went about their work.

I climbed the stairs at the end of the corridor. At the top, I found a small room with a single door. I opened it and found several robots shooting down and some small tubes being set up by a few robots and tiger men. At the center of the deck was another demon robot and a dwarf who was shouting out orders. The demon robot wasn’t the same one. It had a slight bluish color and only four arms as well as being human sized instead of giant sized like the other one.

  It was also less scary.

“Hey draconian girl, if you’re going to gawk at Techno then at least do it while helping out. Cast some magic or something or stay out of the way!” the dwarf shouted.

I instantly felt my face get red hearing the midget say that. I wanted to beat him to a pulp, but from what I was seeing he was instructing the shooters in setting up weapons so I wasn’t going to beat him up, yet.

Getting out of the doorway and walked to the side rails, I looking out at the battlefield that was being lit up by an unnatural light in the night sky.

My jaw couldn’t help but drop open. The battle was tipping to our side. In the air were draconians firing magic and fire breath over the monsters, splitting their forces and killing them. On the ground were several people corralling the monsters before killing in a large rush. One animal robot that was simply rushing through in a mad rush that left several monsters injured, stunned and at the mercy of those coming from behind. And last were the people in the ship.

Bombs, guns we didn’t normally have access to that didn’t care about levels only endurance. They dropped several in one area and it would kill even the hardest monster. The bombs from the metal tubes even did more damage than the hand bombs dropped down to the ground.

Was this what father was talking about. Masters of war that we couldn’t compare to. They had weapons that could simply ignore the level restrictions.

They gained them as well, but they cared less for them and probably only got more to make more weapons.

I finally understood why father was scared of them. They are the real monsters. Merciless war mongers, the real monsters.

As I looked down, I noticed a change in the monsters on the ground. They started running away back from where they came.

I felt a strange foreboding feeling.

  Thump! Thump!

I heard a sound from the ground. Everyone was looking towards the center of the forest.

With each “thump” the ground got more swollen. Cracks soon began to appear on the area.

Everyone swallowed hard as the area turned into a large hill. It continued for about a minute until the ground couldn’t support anymore and caved.

What was left was a giant arm sticking from the ground. It remained there for a moment before lowering to the ground and a new one appeared and landed on the opposite side.

It was then that we all paled. Coming out of the hole was the scariest creature we ever saw. At least 30 meters tall and shaped like a human with smooth rock skin.

‘Boss’ Black Iron Golem Guardian Menthol Level 450.

  CHAPTER 14 Childish ChitChat

  Techno PoV

The giant black golem looked side to side slowly with a frown as if looking at bugs. “Tiny little bugs. Do you know how much damage you caused my body?!”

No one replied since we could see he was hot headed at that moment. Speaking a single word would annoy him.

He simply stared at us for a long moment.

“He... is a boss monster so shouldn't we kill it?” Victor asked cautiously.

“Everyone retreat. Return to the ship right now!" I ordered urgently.

  “What's going on?" Bulk asked.

  I frowned. “Check your mission."

I was looking at it myself.

  Mission: Monster Mayhem (Complete)

You have survived the monster attack and they have now retreated back within the elemental.

  Reward:

Familiarity with draconians and tiger men, 6x levels

  Mission Update

  Mission: Guardian Rampage

The great elemental Menthol has been greatly angered because of the warring between the draconians and tiger men as well as your own use of weapons on him.

After his attempt to rid the draconians who were the first invaders, since he lived in peace with the tiger people, he grew even more displeased as everyone began draining the minerals from his body to prepare for war.

With his rage, he has released his second body as well as the guardian of his elemental core, to wipe out all sentient beings on him. You must escape with the draconian and tiger men before you are all whipped out.

  Reward:

  ???

  Difficulty:

  C+

  Success:

  Escape without dying.

  Failure:

  Everyone dies.

  A C+ rank mission and
that was only getting away. I was sure if it was fighting that thing it would easily reach B++ or higher.

“Bulk! Help me find Nova before she does anything. Nova where are you. Come back to the ship it's not safe,” I shouted over the text to all the clockwork.

It took a while before I got a reply.

“This giant thing is so awesome. But why is he so grouchy?” Nova asked.

“Where are you Nova!?” I asked without replying.

  “At the big guy’s foot.”

As soon as I finished reading her message, my eyes flew in that direction with both Yasha and Asura looking that way both scanning. Both found her signal right on top of the tallest tree closest to the black giant golem.

If we were anything besides artificial beings, we would have turned ghostly pale.

“Nova! get away from him right now or I will make you come back here and I will lock all your things until the next time we go back to virtual town!” I threatened her.

There wasn’t a reply, but I saw the protector jump really high.

I could only feel faint as I saw the giant look down at her.

  Nova PoV

I had Proto jump really high after Bro said that dumb line. I breathed in really deep and as we both got as high as we could I screamed out. “hey! old man! why are you so grumpy?”

I didn’t know if my voice reached him since he was really big but as we fell back down towards the tree, I looked up and saw the big glowing eyes on the giant guy look down.

“You called me an old man brat. What do you want?” he growled angrily.

“Why are you so grumpy?” I asked again.

“Why? why? Look around brat. All this damage was caused by you brats. This is my body and you all started burning all the trees and use the iron and other minerals making me weaker!” he said very angrily.

“Well, I don’t know about minerals but wasn’t it you who sent all those big monsters to attack?” I asked.

“Yes, it was. You all were already fighting?”

“But we didn’t even use half the stuff we used to save those lizard guys. Also didn’t you make that big hole behind yourself?” I asked tilting my head.

He looked back at the massive crater he had made from the inside of the whale body. “Don’t try to shift the blame brat. You all were fighting, and it annoyed me!”

“Pff hahaha you’re worse than my little cousin! It’s harder to make fun of him than it is to do the same to you.” I fell back on Proto’s back laughing and waving my legs as I hold my belly laughing with all I got.

The big guy began to murmur and even started to yell like a little kid.

“Stop laughing you brat! It’s not funny! Grr ahhh. I said stop laughing!”

I stopped because he started to hit the ground and it shook everything.

“Wow! For someone so big you’re just a big baby. If you had just asked the lizard guys to go away, I’m sure you could have saved everyone a lot of trouble,” I said.

He couldn’t reply to that. He even sat down after doing something that closed the big hole and sat cross legged.

He then looked at me and tilted his head.

“Are you really a kid? You sound like an adult already,” he said.

“I’m only eight years old? Why do I sound like an old lady to you!?” I shouted back frowning.

“No, you sound more like an old friend of mine. He was just like you,” he said as a strange feeling surrounded him.

We began to talk after he started to calm down. He was fun to talk to but after a while I started to get Bro’s text again. It was annoying so I just turned off that thing that brings the messages up.

  Techno PoV

I didn’t know if I should be impressed or scared of Nova.

First, she caught the attention of the giant, pissed him off, made him have a childish tantrum and then she was talking to him like best friends. Did she have some kind of skill to calm down smart monsters? Maybe it's simply because she is a child.

Still it was scary to see her chatting so casually. It wasn’t like I let that stand though. I messaged her some more, but she eventually cut the link to the chat.

I had to give up since I couldn’t climb that high and if I teleported her, it would anger the giant again. So instead I had all the tiger men and draconians gather in the draconian village.

We sent Greer to go get the remaining 40 tiger men that were in hiding and stood there anxiously watching as Nova just talked to Menthol. No one could speak as they simply watched the giant lay down and rest his head on his arm while Nova sat on the protector who was on the top of the tree.

Every last one of them were scared of how easily she calmed and distracted him, so we simply packed everything. I was going to transport them some place. Maybe the elf forest would fit both of them well enough. From what I heard, the elves had begun to accept some forms of technologies inside their forest but mostly stuff that helped improve the wellbeing of the forest itself.

I tried to connect to Nova but was swatted away the connection again which made me sigh and sit down with both my bodies and hang my head.

“Oi, what's with that mood?” Bulk asked as he approached me.

“Nova.” I simply pointed at the giant who had already forgotten about us all. I'd already begun to wonder if all ancient beings were like that.

Seriously, Gaia was a total bitch and an annoyingly childish one that liked to piss me off. Delta was similar to her, but he liked pissing Gaia off, which I enjoyed watching. Then this guy.

Is something wrong with these ancient monsters to act so childish? I could only guess that they got bored of acting like grown adults and reverted to a more childish personality.

I couldn't help but curse out loud. Those around me looked strangely my way since they knew I never talked.

We couldn't do anything about it except wait for Nova to finish talking.

Sometimes we would hear the giant yell and scream while having a tantrum while other times he would laugh loudly enough to wake everyone. Most of us went to sleep seeing this would go on for a long time.

The sun was starting to rise when I gave up. And with both bodies, I left the ship and walked towards where Nova was.

The scars from battle the previous night were still visible but already plants were growing. I guessed he must be feeding it magic to regenerate. So much for us causing trouble.

As I neared the place his head was, I could hear Nova talking.

“Nova! we are leaving! He doesn’t want us here, let’s go!” My voice echoed up to both of them and they looked down.

“Bro do we have to go!” Nova complained from the top of the tree.

“He doesn’t want us here, so we are leaving,” I said it again.

She looked at the giant who began blinking several times before something clicked and he seemed to remember why he was even there.

“Ah that’s right, I was about to wipe all of you out for causing damage to my body,” he said. He sat up and looked around at the healing scars before scratching his cheek. “Even if I wanted to now, I don’t really care about it since I actually forgot about you all. Still, I would be hard pressed to actually let them all remain here if they continued fighting,” he said.

As soon as his words came out, something clicked in my mind.

“Nova say this for me. ‘What do you want in return for letting them stay? I don’t know what you would want so say something. I really don’t want to bring more people with me,’” I secretly messaged Nova.

He started to look around, then his eyes stopped on my floating anchored ship over the draconian village.

That said, before she could he spoke once more, “Hmm. I feel the faint presence of several elemental cores from your ship. Do you have intact cores?”

“We have a golem and two fire elementals who learned some time ago to create cores,” I sent to Nova who said it.

“I see. Then if you hand over all the cores from both elemental races and make the two
races sign a magic peace treaty in my presence, then I would allow them to remain. Any other way they would have to leave,” he said.

I was completely surprised that he resolved this on his own, so I nodded.

“What about taking minerals from your body?”

“Figure something out. I don’t want them mining my body,” he growled remembering this fact.

I frowned before I started to think for a long time. I sat cross legged with both bodies and soon Nova jumped down the tree and landed next to me.

“Hey Bro, if it’s metal you want why not just go back to that junk place we started at? If we get Gaia to give the kitties and lizards some boats, they can go and get stuff for themselves,” Nova suggested.

I really am proud of my little sister. Not only was her recklessness saving us, but she even remembered about the near infinite sized clockwork scrapyard which would take hundreds of years to completely clear out.

“Good idea. But that won’t make your punishment any less severe later,” I said.

She blinked a bit before looking up and then back before pouting.

“Can I have time to talk with the people involved?”

“As long as no more wars happen, I don’t care.” He waved me off.

I nodded before overriding Nova’s control over the protector. When it started to walk without her control, she started to throw a tantrum, but I quickly locked all her weapons which made it worse.

“This is for disobeying me when I told you to come back.”

When she jumped off and started to run towards Menthol, I had the protector grab her and bring her with it.

I was too tired to even care about her whining.

We returned to the village. The sun was already up by the time we got back, and everyone was already moving everything around.
