  The End

Excerpt from Sanctuary’s Aggression Book 2: The Road:

Skye called out to Mrs. McCleary hoping for some kind of recognition.

The woman stilled a bit but didn't turn to look at Skye.

"Mrs. McCleary?" Skye repeated, "I'm going to leave you some water and a couple of protein bars. I know it's not much. If you need more, there's some food and water in my house. Just break a window and take it."

The old woman slowly turned toward Skye. It gave Skye hope that she could understand what she was saying. "Mrs. McCleary? Do you understand?" She took a couple small steps toward her.

The rise and fall of the woman chest became more pronounced. A long, gargled wail started. Low in pitch and then rising until the screech seemed to bounce off the hills all around them.

The flailing arm now went up and down. Up and down. Up and down. The shriek continued to rise. Skye winced and covered her ears.

Skye stood frozen as Mrs. McCleary turned inch by torturous inch until she faced Skye. Her face red with fury, she took a deep breath before continuing her wail.

Skye hurried to set the food and water down on the pavement. She calmly spoke to the woman as she did so. The screech continued. The arm moved in the same chopping motion.

The eerie sound coming from the woman caused Skye to shiver as she moved back toward the car. But Skye wasn't quick enough.

  From the Author

If you liked this book, I’d love to hear what you think when you leave a review.

To hear of new releases, a mailing list sign-up is available at my website www.mairadawn.com. I don’t email often, maybe once a month. Mostly to let you know how I’m coming along on new books.

You can leave me a comment on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/mairadawn.writer/ or my email at [email protected]. I’m always happy to hear what readers think of my stories.

  Special Thanks

To all of you, who took the chance to read a new author. I appreciate each and every one of you!

To all my readers at Wattpad for letting me know that this, my first story, was good. Without them, I would have taken this leap into publishing with a much weaker heart.

To Sarah, whose critiques offered the wisdom and encouragement to continue on. I cannot say thank you enough.

To my friend, Cheryl, who has read the book multiple times and continues to love it. Her enthusiasm warms my heart.

To my Mother, who loves everything I’ve written. I continued the story of Skye and Dylan past the first ‘The End’ for her.

To my daughter, Kelsey, for her support as a Beta Reader and as a unique sounding board when I needed one. When stuck, I could always rely on her to give me inspiration.

To my daughter, Anjulie, and her husband, Tristan, for their special brand of encouragement, not doubting for a moment that if I put my mind to something, I could accomplish it.

And once again, to my husband, who didn’t bat an eye when out of the blue, I said I was going to write a book. Who, even though he is not a reader of almost anything, listens to my chapters and me when I need to talk something out. He has, in fact, given me many great ideas that made their way into this series.
