The Viper's Successor Page 2

by Somsiddha Deb Saha

Armun continued “We have analysed the explosion at Mumbai but none of Vipers men was available at India at that point of time. And no one of them arrived a month ago Over there. We are suspicious that there might be more than them.”

“Navan, your task is to supervise the security countermeasures and come up with contingency plan if anything happens. Something has been planned by the Viper’s men controlled and polarized by someone.” Hudson’s eyes were pointed at Navan.

Sam squealed,” And yes, the other one seemed to be homesick. He stays alone at a tarnished, shabby hotel at Italy and have not gone out in 2 weeks.”

“Patience, Sam we’re already keeping an eye on him. And as he is inactive right now, we must contemplate on the other.”

“But it could turn out, these are just diversions and the real stratagem is constructing by someone else. Not only henchmen but some mastermind is working behind this too I presume. Can’t we start with Viper’s real identity and find out why after his death situations are like this, and whom he have bequeathed his grievance?” Navan raised his voice.

“You can tell that better who was Viper really cz it was your troops plan to subdue and encounter.” Sidius looked at Navan with batting eyes.

“We spent 2 consecutive years to find out who this Viper really is but his adroit espionages and brutal works made us stunned. At last when I shot him his face was covered with mask too that time. Col. Tricas did every investigation possible before our mission but not a single link we found about his identity and his acts. Now, it could be a guild formed by his disciples keeping the fire of abomination undoused, its just they are too elusive, just like we have faced something like that too during Viper’s times.”

“Well, we are one step ahead of their possible activities: and rightly you said, Vipers men are like molluscs, too common to identify amidst crowd. This is a worldwide phenomenon now, and not only these two, but our all-seeing eyes are also setted in apt frequencies, tracking every activities and footsteps. Not the common people, but Corporate and Top-Notch industries and Business houses are their target, I surmise from the previous two bombardments. We have sent alerts to notable industries but analysing their footsteps would be absolute necessary.

Armun expressed “After subduing 6 of them, we have retrieved no information of their missions and strategy. They were zealots of Viper and kept their mouth shut inspite of third degrees and aggravated measures. Leaving them, 21 of Vipers men had been tracked worldwide but camouflaged as tourist, doctors and residents. They include drug lords, mafia, former members of Chinas Red Dragons, and Petroleum thugs. Before Apocalypse, the Badshah and oil mafias were also a part of this ring but after 2028 they disbanded themselves. Seems someone is guiding them in the absence of Viper and is trying to take control. These men are not that much snarky and astute to carry out such vicious operations.”

“Okay Gentlemen, I want every intel’s about those two on this table within one hour. Disperse. Navan, Ms. Lucy is expecting you.”

Navan was baffled. He cannot even run, combat is his long-lost dream, Hudson got retarded or what? All he can do is sitting in front of computer now and submitting intels. What sort of activity did Chief mention to disclose?

“Navan, Im having keen faith entrusted up on you cz. I know you are patriot and your dedication towards the nation is unwavering. We need soldiers like you, son.” Hudsons last word was emotive.

“Ah Mr. Navan hope the meetings over” Lucy came up the stairs. “follow me.”

Accompanied by Lucy, Navan started walking. The floors were made of glasses and were translucent of all activities going down.

The elevator touched the basement. What Navan saw; he was completely flabbergasted.

  A new life

  Location: COD Laboratory

  Time: 4:28 pm

The hall possesses a whole new level of technological marvel. From advanced Gliders to wingsuit, from Kevlar suits to jetpack and innumerable ranges of rifles and launchers, left him stunned.

“Welcome to tomorrow, Mr Navan. Technology is the light which cuts through the darkness of cognition, scientifically establish the innovations of mankind. Gone are those condescending days of anomalies and incongruencies, this unequivocal technology will soon dash through the bleeding edge.”

Fiction stories are his favourite, in fact he used to dress up as batman as a kid to scare off bullies. This reality really amazed him.

“We will now analyse your post-accident consequences and anatomical structures. Please get into this vessel.”

Navan lied in the vessel. He didn’t feel anything, except a minor pinch. A Bot arm scanned his body physics.

“Blood pressure normal, too much alcohol consumption, occasional blackout and vision impairment, Both the femur are completely damaged and cracked in places, shards and metal pieces from the blast penetrated into his pelvic girdle and has a 98% possibility of causing gangrene.” The analysis report was less than 3 minutes.

“I could see no other option than amputing your lower body part, Mr Navan.”

Navan was appalled. Some neighbours of his territory advised him to seek prosthetic limbs but this was beyond expectation.

“your life is at risk. Immediately have to start the procedure and improvise with our possible adjustments.”

“So, am I a lab experiment now? Just another guineapig?” Navan mocked.

“Relax, Mr.Navan: have unreserved faith on us.” Her concerned tone added “we will give you a mild sedative for the first step. The operation will be meticulous, and we want no intervention of your catatonic movements and we have to put you in a complete senseless situation for further treatments. Hope you will cooperate with us.”

Navans entire world blurred out in a moment after injection of the sedative, A complete void of pitch-black nothingness. Levitating without any restraints, squirming in the dark charted off course. Unable to grab any support he was ricocheting in trapezium of vast darkness.

“Is, Is that tomorrow?” his dizzy eyes located a trace of light.

Scanning…Scanning…Scanning complete. Biplanar Radiography of Navan Gilman, complete.”

  “Heart-beat 98…vital functions…. normal…no signs of severe cardiac inflictions…”

“Mr.Navan, can you hear us?” Navan’s consciousness was normalising slowly.

“Operation Successful.” Lucy applauded for the supporting surgeons. “Now get off the bed and try to walk, Mr Navan.”

“walk?” Navan’s voice was full of inhibitions. His body was covered with a translucent sheet. taking that off, his eyes got quivered with the glaze of steel legs adjoined at his hip.

“Biologically Augmented Limbic Accelerators” she said “Interconnected by thousands of neural links to your thalamus and ventromedial prefrontal cortex, this will allow you to boost your motion and muscular calisthenics up to 75% of your normal humane capability. The body electrolytes provide sufficient energy to the limbs and for auxiliary power we have additionally installed two graphene aerogel batteries. Its AI will analyse imminent threat from any direction within 5 metre and can perform necessary stunts programmed and delineate as per the adversity. Its seamless integrity spurs up your stamina, agility and dexterity in defence mode. Synced with your bone marrow, the exoskeleton and the epidermis are augmented also leaving no human tissue and flesh beneath. You can feel the same reflexes like before Mr.Navan. Slowly get up and try to stand.”

Navan still could not believe that he could put steps on floor without any support. He slowly tried to stand on his new limbs, trembling, yet a sheer excitement was working inside him.

“You’ve been out of consciousness for two days Mr. Navan. Take your steps slowly sir, don’t rush’” one surgeon commented.

Navan felt like an infant, trembling, yet walking on two legs. A bit difficulty he suffered at first as for 3 long years he didn’t had pressure on his feet. It Normalises within minutes.

“Accompany us to weapon testing facility, Mr Navan” Lu
cy’s eyes were gleaming with success.

  The Viper Protocol

  Location: COD Simulation course

  Time: 10:21 am

Navan’s vivaciousness touched the infinite. With great ardour and zeal, he took a speedy sprint. Life has given him a second chance, to seek his retribution against adversaries. He dashed through the obstacles, sprang through the gaps, and slicked with maximum effort at the simulation.

A mixed reality hologramed inside a hall made up of shielded 4-inch fibre glasses. Navan’s objective was to seek points in all the exercises according to rising difficulty level.

“305 Kw as per the speed and dash; My god we haven’t really expected something like this!” one official exclaimed.

“It all comes from will. Endeavours of what you yearn for.” Lucy smirked.

Navan was prancing in heaven, destructing all debris of his past life. His stance to stand for the nation, to protect the country from pernicious situation just got refurbished. He expressed his gratitude to all surgeons and engineers.

“Couldn’t thank enough for this” Navan said humbly.

“Always happy to give assistance to the protectors of the nation, Mr Navan; Adik would be pleased if hes alive today that you’ve disposed off the dreadful lifestyle and back with a bang.”

“Adik surely would dance like a madman if he had survived. The miscreants caused this, must have to pay the price. Nemesis is unleashed upon them.”

“This will act like a normal human body part Mr.Navan, unlike prosthetics and robotic extensions. The decryptions of programming wont affect the conditioned and unconditioned reflex. To camouflage amidst public, we’ll attach a cloaking device, unable for detectors to identify.”

“So Im a cyborg now, huh?” Navan sneered.

“That’s a primitive term to heed upon, Mr.Navan. We focus mostly on cerebral capacity of humans and try to upgrade with necessary defensive tactics. Robotics comes as a supporting tool to align with our experiments. Reminiscent to Euri Gellers will power, Darwinism, self-adaptation, Biotechnology is sacrosanct for us to achieve the impregnable. No tapeworm or virus could erase the programming of your accelerators; its subverted and consolidated as a memory in your gyrux. Difference from a robotic arm is not just providing capacity but also adapt to the changing circumstances. Also, the blood circulation is normal in your limbs as the transfusion with your Group is successful.”

Navan questioned, “Can it survive external physical threats like gunshot, chopper slices and all?”

“Just our body heals from minor cuts and wounds, this will too except you won’t feel a pain. The outer layer is made up with a concoction of gallium and poly alloy, which has a regenerative ability. In case of Gunfights, the nanobots programmed to create a strong epidermis so that the bullets cannot penetrate.”

“Woaah! Just have to save my body I presume…”

“Your brain will send possible information to your reflexes and motion. Just like your eye blink, sensitivity to heat and other unconditioned reflexes, this will act as your own body part, including analysing external threats.”

“Mm-Hmm.” Navan was checking his balance on ground standing on one leg.

“Good luck for your mission, Soldier. By god’s grace may you achieve success. “Lucy escorted him to the central office.

“Welcome back, Soldier Navan. Men like you are our prized possession.” Hudson nodded.

“Kid just found out the happenings of Amsterdam.” Sidius commented.

“8 of the targets just arrived at Harleem, just a bit far from Amsterdam in a resort located beside the red-light district. 32 Henchmen and bodyguards are in position guarding the resort. A conference might take place within a couple of days.” Sam handed over the intel to Hudson.

Armun explained, “As On our previous mission we came through a business meet that took place at Greece’s Cleocorp resembling this conference. It took 8 consecutive hours to identify the explosive and defuse the device installed in the air vents of parking spot. But the chemical components are still mind boggling to us experts. Most components are off the periodic table and could not be assessed. No leftovers from the Mumbai blast could be recovered either. What sort of chemical attachment instilled as a pocket with that device we are still in oblivion.”

“I didn’t join when this took place or else I could have assessed their location more precisely.” Sam setted his nerdy glasses on his nose.

“Sidius continued, most of them has been identified previously. They belong to some affluent business class or marked as deceased in official records.”

“Let’s not waste any more time” Hudson retorted. “I transpire that the current boss might be present somewhere at Harleem. Secure all the industries and offices over there. Alert their polices and security officials to sent teams to guard and track all offices 24/7. Do the requisites immediately and ACTIVATE THE VIPER PROTOCOL!”

  Just a doubt…

  Location: Shimla Airport, India

  Time: 2:13 pm

  “Hey Sam.”

“Y-Yes? Me? You need some help? Is something wrong?”

“Calm down Sam. Listen this is against the protocol, but I want full access over the Vipers report retrieved plus the location tracers on each suspect. I surmise whatever going on at Amsterdam is a sham.”

“Bb-but I could lose my job. Its against the compliance.”

“Do you want another blast to take place? And I do not think Sidius works with full patriotism. Yesterday hes constantly polarizing us to focus on Amsterdam.”

“I don’t feel so good about this, Mr.Navan. Lemme see what I could do.” Sam focused on his own laptop.

Armun and Sidius are off to Location, and Navan deliberately missed the first flight as he has some doubts tingling in his mind. He and Sam are waiting at lounge at Shimla Airport. Sam’s an agile programmer and web expert, his pro hands are continuously running on keyboards. He seemed quite jittery as he’s suspecting each passenger passing by.

“Here it is” Sam handed over the laptop bashfully to Navan. “I generated a ghost profile and through algorithms I gained access to the main server. What you gonna do? Please don’t kill me!”

Navan’s plan was to make a backdoor entry to the hotel at Italy. He checked the past bookings and reserved occupancies, downloading the hotels server.

“Suspicious about something, eh?” Sam was irresolute.

“The rooms previously booked for some guy named Markus Till, and our suspects name is Dylan S. as mentioned in hotel directory. Could you seek the possible information about this Markus guy?”

“In a minute.” Sam inclined towards the laptop screen.

“You’re from India Sam? Don’t think Sam is an Indian name.” Navan questioned.

“Ahh, yes Mr.Navan. My full name is Victor Samrat Ray. My mom is a Bengali.” Sam smiled at Navan.

Navan recalled, Adik used to visit India once every 4 months. He had an immense disposition towards their delicacies, art and culture. Bollywood films are his favourite, used to say no film industry could portray such romanticism in their picture.

“There you go”. Sam exhales. “Markus Till is dead by a car accident 2 months ago.but whats with him?”

“…God, what are you up to?” Navan murmured. “Sam, do one thing, take the next flight to Netherlands. I have some unfinished business.”

“Wwwhat? Hudson’s going to take serious actions against you if you don’t stick to the plan! Nada! We have to report over there to Sidius and we already missed one light! Have you got insane?”

“I know what I am doing, Sam. And tell Sidius that he might be in charge, but I have previous experience. If anything happens to me in Italy, I shall send you all my findings before that and pass on to Hudson. You’re a brave man Sam, I know but I have to take this risk.”

Sam was perplexed for a moment. “Okay then, I’ll go with you. I could help you with adequate assistance. You can count on me”.

  “Youre not understanding Sam. An
ything could happen. And you will be in grave danger if Hudson finds out. Have to take this risk, my intuition says”

“Leave that to me. Not more than a couple of minutes will take to divert the tracks”. Sam smiled.

  Catch him if you can!

Location: Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, Italy

  Time: 9:56 am

“Mr. Navan, do you copy, Mr Navan?”

“In position, Sam. Notify me each minute.”

Few hours ago, Navan and Sam dropped off at Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport. Navan felt a little awkward amidst the pandemonium as he spent in exile for the past 3 years. His motions are surprisingly normal and ordinary like a normal pedestrian. No wonder innovation has reached to such epochal triumph in past few years and will flourish further. Theres no MomN pop stores now, no standing in queues at theatres and restaurants. People spent most of their time glued their eyes to smartcells. Traffic guards are demoded, population nearly decreased by 8% after the deadly pandemic of 2020 and Zombie apocalypse of 2028. He retrospected how Adik saved him from that ambush of dead people that night just with one magazine left in his holster. Freaking hero that Adik was!
