No More Secrets Page 34

She turned a slow circle, trailing her gaze over the stunning display a second time. “It’s absolutely amazing—so romantic. It’s a shame they went to so much trouble when you can’t see it from the tent.”

Cade’s shrug was back. “I didn’t want to steal anyone’s thunder when I asked them to do this.”

She blinked her surprise. “You did this?”

He nodded. “I thought you and Kaitlyn deserved something beautiful when I asked you both to be mine.”

“Cade,” she whispered, bringing her hand back to her heart as he settled on one knee in front of her, showing her a stunning oval-cut 4-carat diamond ring.

“I love you, Gwen. From the first moment I saw you, I knew you would be someone special in my life. I was so lost and broken before I found you. You’ve changed everything. You’ve given me everything—more than I ever could have dreamed of.”

She wiped at her tears, beyond touched by his words as she clutched their little girl close.

“Will you be my wife, Gwen? Will you let me give Kaitlyn my name? Will you let me be her dad?”

She rested her cheek against Kaitlyn’s head. “Oh, Cade, you are her dad. You’ve been her dad all along.”

He smiled. “Be mine, Gwen. You, Bean, and Bug.”

She nodded without hesitation. There was no need for contemplation when she was excited for the amazing life they would continue creating together. “Yes!”

He grinned, sliding the ring on her finger before he stood, then pulled her close, kissing her. “I love you.”

She brought his mouth back to hers for another kiss. “I love you, too.”

His grin returned as he lifted her and Kaitlyn in his arms, spinning them once. “We’re getting married, Gwen.”

She laughed as the baby did, looking up to the hill when Callie let loose one of her piercing, cab-calling whistles.

“It looks like there’s another party going on!” Nate shouted as he grinned.

Beaming her joy as Cade set them back on the dock, she waved to her parents, Nate, Molly, Callie, and Brad as her family moved toward the beach. This was her world. This was her life. She gasped, laughing again when fireworks exploded in the sky. “Did you do this, too?”

He tossed her another shrug. “I’ve had a partner in crime in Kay. She’s quite a schemer, that one—suggesting we should take a walk to settle Kaitlyn after Roy got the candles lit down here, then calling in the grand finale when she knew we’d be ready.”

Her left eyebrow winged up. “You don’t say?”

He grinned, nodding. “We figured they’d make a nice surprise for the bride and groom. But mostly, this is for you because I know how much you love them.”

  “Aw, you’re the best.”

He hooked his arm around her shoulders as Kaitlyn pointed toward the next wash of color. “So, when do you want to get hitched? Because things are ready to roll with Kaitlyn’s adoption as soon as we are.”

She laughed, as eager to be married as he was. Very soon, she and her little girl would share his name. “I happen to know a wedding planner and some excited family members, so I imagine we can pull something spectacular together by next month. At Carter House.”

“Done,” he said with a decisive nod.

Gwen gave her attention to their daughter. “Did you hear that, Baby Girl? We’re going to have another wedding—Mommy and Daddy’s.”

“Daddy,” Cade whispered, holding her gaze as their family joined them on the dock. “I love that, Gwen.”

“We love you.” She snuggled her soon-to-be husband and sweet little girl, watching the next explosion light up the sky.
