Colten sighed, a part of him wanted to tell his dad to fuck off, but Declan was right, he was family, he was pack… and okay so yeah maybe he’d missed his dad a little. He stepped back and shrugged before adding,“Yeah. I guess.”
Frank stepped into the house. They stared at each other, then looked away, the tension between them thick as they both shuffled their feet, neither of them speaking. Declan shoved him from behind. Damn my mate is pushy.
“Why don’t you take him upstairs and let him see the twins?” Declan said as his eyes met Colten’s, pleading.
His dad’s eyes lit up. “I would like that.” It was hard to miss the hope in his eyes.
Colt nodded. He grabbed Declan and kissed him on so his dad could see this was his mate, in their home, and he better respect him. The omega smiled and patted his arm.
“When you two are done, you should stay for dinner, Frank.”
“If that’s okay with Colten.”
“He’s fine with it,” Declan said quickly.
“Look, Dec. Again I’m really-.”
Declan waved a hand. “It’s in the past. Don’t worry about it. I’m just glad to see you here.”
Frank smiled and shook Declan’s hand. He turned and followed Colten up the stairs. When they stood in the nursery, Frank glanced down at the twins and whistled.
“Cute pups.”
“Their dad is gorgeous.”
“Yeah, he is. You two make a good couple.”
Colten’s shoulders slackened from their tensed state. “Yeah?”
“I was a big old fool thinking I could come between the two of you. I never believed in any of that fated stuff, but the way you two care about each other? I can see I was wrong.”
Colten managed a small smile. “Thanks.”
“What did you name them?”
“Pryce and Payton.”
“They’re beautiful. Your papa would have been proud.”
“I think so too.”
Frank clapped a hand on his shoulder. “I’m really sorry son. Forgive an old man for thinking he knew best.”
Colten looked at his dad, and then at his kids, and he realized he would do everything in his power to protect them. That was what his dad tried doing. In the worst way of course but still…
Colten sighed, he put his hand on his dad’s shoulder. “We’re good, dad.”
“Thanks, son.” He felt the tension drain from his dad’s shoulders, and a smile appeared on his father's face, “How about we go have dinner with your new family?”
“I would love that.”
Frank patted him on the shoulder, “I’m proud of you son,” he said before heading for the stairs. Colten took a second to admire his children. They both stared up at him, quiet and content for now. His heart squeezed in his chest as he looked down at them.
“You two are magic,” he whispered.
Colten couldn’t think of a single thing that his life was missing.
