“I understand. You are carrying another person. You have every right to be fussy if you want to.” Chase said kissing her forehead as he lead her to the stairs.

“I’m not feeling so well.” Callie said as she started up the stairs.

“Want some hot chocolate?” Chase asked her.

“No.” Callie said pausing halfway up the stairs. “My back has been killing me all day.”

“Maybe it will relax while you take a bath. I can give you a back rub when you get out.” Chase said looking up at her.

“Aahhhh.” Callie cried out as she doubled over clutching her stomach.

“Callie?” Chase said running up to her.

“Something’s wrong.” Callie said as she tried to straighten up.

“Okay, let’s go back down and I will get you to the doctor.” Chase said trying to turn with her.

“Aaahhhh!” Callie screamed out. “Chase, I can’t walk.” Callie panted.

“I have you. Hang on. I will get you to the doctor.” Chase said scooping her up going down the steps. “Luke! Luke!” Chase was yelling as he opened the door.

“What? What’s wrong?” Luke said rushing up the steps.

“Get the car. Drive us to the hospital now!” Chase said rushing to the car.

The ride seemed to take forever. Chase rode in the back with her, telling her how much he loved her and rubbing her hair. When they go to the hospital everyone moved fast. She was rushed around and hooked to machines, then they gave her an IV and started a medicine.

“It looks like you went into preterm labor. We were able to stop it for now, but that isn’t a guarantee it won’t comeback. How far along are you?” The doctor asked.

Callie and Chase answered all her questions and held tight to each other as they waited. The doctor wanted to do an ultra sound so they sat and waited. Luke had called Chasity so they were all there with her when they started the ultrasound.

“So have yall found out what the baby is?” The radiologist asked as she did the scan.

“We are having a little girl.” Chase said. They continued to answer questions as she went, until she moved farther around her side then usual.

“Is something wrong?” Callie asked her. “They have never moved it that far.”

“Not at all. Do you hear that?” The radiologist asked them.

“It’s my heart beat and the babies.” Callie said.

“Look at the screen.” The radiologist said pointing. “See, there are two babies. It looks like one baby was staying in front of the other. You my dear are having twins.”

“T-twins? Are you sure?” Callie asked looking up at Chase.

“Yeah, and they seem to be good sized for this stage, with stronge heart beats.”

“Can you tell what the second one is?” Chase asked squeezing her hand.

“Give me a minute to see if it will cooperate.” The radiologist said moving the wand around. “Ah there.” She said pointing. “Looks like this little one is a boy.”

“Oh wow.” Chasity said as she leaned into Luke.

“Callie, you are amazing. You are giving me two babies.” Chase said kissing her gently.

“I will print these pictures and let you settle, while I let the doctor know what’s going on.”

“Callie, are you feeling better?” Luke asked her.

“Yeah, I’m not having the pains anymore.” Callie told him quietly.

“What’s wrong love?” Chase asked propping her up against him.

“Twins Chase. We aren’t prepared for twins, what if I screw this up?” Callie said as tears rolled down her face.

“Chasity and I can go get a second… Well, everything and have it ready before you get home.” Luke said looking at Chasity and she nodded.

“But I painted the room pink.” Callie said. “ Shouldn’t I have known?” She was feeling useless.

“There is no way you could have known. Luke, have Jimmy help you repaint the room yellow?” Chase said looking at Callie, when she nodded he continued. “Then get whatever we need. I don’t want her worrying about anything.”

“Will you call us when you know what’s going on?” Chasity asked them.

“Absolutely. Feel free to stay at the house if you want, but will someone call the school. Let them know Callie will call tomorrow when we know what’s going on.” Chase told them.

“Sure.” Luke said and he and Chasity kissed her goodbye before leaving.

“We will be fine love, these babies will have the best family anyone could ask for.” Chase told her as he kissed her forehead.

“How did we go this long without knowing there was two babies?” Callie said staring of into space.

“Just relax. She said they looked like they were a good size, that should mean they are healthy.” Chase told her.

The doctor came in and did another exam and talked to them for a bit. Callie couldn’t seem to take her hands off where the babies were inside her stomach. She was so scared, had them not knowing endangered the babies? Chase kept his arm around her letting her lean on him.

“Doctor, is it normal for us not to have found the second baby sooner?” Callie asked.

“It doesn’t happen often, but it is possible for one to hide behind the other. From the ultrasound everything looks to be good. The babies are at a good size. Twins do seem to come early, so I’m going to give you something to help with the development. You really need to keep them in as long as you can.” The doctor told them.

“So, what do you need me to do to put this off as long as possible?” Callie asked, she could feel the tears running down her face.

“For tonight, I want to keep you here for observation. Long term, I’m going to put you on bed rest till the little ones come. You can get up to run to the bathroom and for short periods of time like for a shower, but no strenuous activity. Your best bet is to stay in bed as much as possible.” The doctor told her.

“Okay. Thank you doctor.” Chase said as she walked out.

“Chase, what are we going to do? I can’t work or move for the next couple of months.” Callie said as the tears streamed down her face.

“We will be fine Callie. Money isn’t a problem, and I know you don’t like the thoughts of having to stay in the bed, but it is what we need to do for the babies.” Chase said rubbing her belly.

“You’re right. I will deal with anything to keep them safe. If you will give me my phone, I will call the school while you call Luke and Chasity.”

  *****

Chase spent the night at the hospital with Callie before they released her the next morning. She was quiet and he knew it was because she was overwhelmed. He held her hand as they drove home. Callie was very active, being stuck on bed rest was going to kill her. He would buy her lots of books, and have girls night every night they could come over. He would have Luke take over as much as possible so he could stay by her side.

“Callie, it’s going to be okay. I will do everything I can to make sure you aren’t bored.” Chase said squeezing her hand.

“You can’t stay with me at all times. I will be fine. I will do whatever it takes to keep the babies safe.” Callie told him quietly.

“We are so glad ya’ll are home. We will be here as much as possible.” Luke said as Chase pick her up to carry her inside.

“Can I get you anything?” Chasity asked her.

“No thank you, I’m fine.” Callie replied curling into him. She sounded so defeated.

“We got everything you wanted set up and ready.” Luke said walking up the stairs behind them.

Chase took Callie into the room so they could look at all the work that had been done to get this place ready for their babies. The room was perfect with two of everything. They had worked hard to get it taken care of so fast.

“Thanks for everything ya’ll have done.” Chase nodded at both of them.

“Why is there two rockers?” Callie asked them.

“With two babies both of you needed a rocker so you
could rock them together.” Chasity told her smiling.

“I still can’t believe we are having two babies.” Callie said rubbing her stomach. “It’s no wonder I feel like I’m gonna pop.”

“You are as beautiful as always.” Chase said stepping behind her and reaching around to rub her belly. “But now it’s time for you to get off your feet.” He said as he scooped her up and carried her to their room across the hall.

“Chase, I’m allowed to walk.” Callie told him giving him the evil eye.

“You are suppose to be staying off your feet.” Chase told her gently laying her on the bed.

“I can walk to the bathroom and to the nursery.” Callie scolded him.

“We aren’t taking any chances. Bathroom only. Anywhere else I will carry you.” Chase replied.

“You can’t carry me every where. I’m too heavy, especially now.” Callie informed him. Before she could get the last word out Chase had his hand over mouth frowning at her.

“I don’t ever want to hear those words out of your mouth again. Do I make myself clear.” Chase demanded.

“But..” Callie began, but broke off at the look on his face.

“I said are we clear Callie.” Chase growled at her.

“Crystal.” Callie said sticking her tongue out at him.

“Good, now lay back and rest. I need to go check on a few things at the barn. Chasity will you watch her.” Chase asked.

“I’m not a child I don’t need to be watched.” Callie huffed at them.

“Yes I will make sure she doesn’t get up.” Chasity told him before he walked out.

“Trader.” Callie told her turning away.

“Yes, but at least you and the babies will be safe.” Chasity replied sweetly.

“You need to go it’s girls night and they will want to hang out tonight.” Callie said pouting.

“It’ll be fine. We need to discuss names and clothes and…” Chasity started.

“Chase and I will decide that, and you already bought everything the baby could need.” Callie told her.

“But I didn’t get the outfits you will bring them home in. We could go online and find those.” Chasity said trying to distract her.

“Fine, I will let you distract me with shopping, for now.” Callie replied as Chasity got her computer and climbed on the bed with her.

  *****

Callie had been online shopping for hours. Her and Chasity had already picked out two outfits for each. Of course a little western wear for her baby boy, and frilly dresses for her little girl. It was starting to seem really real now. In a couple months she would be holding two little babies, her babies. Chasity was excited about the twins and wanted to buy everything, but Callie limited her. They had already bought enough clothes to put a new outfit on each baby everyday and never wash them, and then they would probably have extras they never wore.

“No more shopping for clothes.” Callie said flopping back against her pillows.

“Fine, don’t let me spoil the babies anymore.” Chasity replied sticking her tongue out at her.

“You can spoil them when they are here.” Callie said, then the door bell rang. “Wonder who that is? I better go get it.” She started to get up only to have Chasity grab her arm to hold her down.

“Chase can get it, you aren’t suppose to be moving alot and definitely no stairs.” Chasity told her.

  “Chase is…” Callie began.

“Chase is right here, what do you need my love?” Chase asked as he opened the bedroom door.

“Oh, who was at the door?” Callie asked him smiling. It felt like she hadn’t seen him in forever.

“Well, that’s why I’m up here. You see there is this group of women who are…” Chase started but was cut off.

“We are right here, and we are coming in.” Lindy said as she pushed Chase out of her way.

“What are yall doing here?” Callie asked surprised they were there.

“Since someone had to get knocked up with twins, and put on bed rest, we had to move girls night here.” Lindy replied.

“I can’t believe you’re having twins.” Taylor said bouncing around.

“Me either.” Callie said happy that her friends would come all the way here for her.

“We are to keep you company and keep you still. As long as we follow orders, we get to visit as often as we want.” Kara told her softly.

“I see you girls will be fine. I will go down stairs and hangout with Luke now.” Chase said as he stepped over to Callie and kissed her before walking toward the door.

“Thank you Chase.” Callie said with tears in her eyes.

“Anytime love, anytime.” Chase winked at her as he left.

Callie spent several hours with the girls talking and laughing. She couldn’t believe it when they told her Chase had set it up and told them they were welcome anytime and he would leave the front door open so they could come see her anytime. He was really going to extremes to keep her happy and healthy. She loved him so much. How had she lived so long without him?

The girls finally left sometime after dark, with promises they would be there anytime she needed them to keep her company. Chase had ran up and down the stairs several times to check on her and see if she needed anything. The girls had insisted bed rest called for pizza, so he had ordered more than enough as usual. He had even had a guys night in the living room, inviting the sheriff, the fire chief and some of the guys from the EMS. Callie figured a lot of them were friends of Luke’s.

She liked having the house full of people. Hopefully the guys that had come over could become friends with Chase too. She had a feeling he wouldn’t be leaving the ranch unless it was absolutely necessary. The down time was going to drive her up the wall, but if the girls would come by some and Chase and Chasity were going to be close she could do it. She would do anything for her babies. She was still in her happy place, day dreaming of holding her babies when Chase came up to get ready for bed.

“What has such a beautiful smile on your face?” Chase asked as he pulled his shirt off over his head.

“I was just thinking that I can’t wait till we can hold our babies.” Callie told him. All of her attention was focused on him as he continued to get ready for bed.

“I agree, but we need them to wait a little longer.” Chase said as he slid into the bed in only his underwear.

“I know. Did you have a good night with the guys here?” Callie asked cuddling up to him.

“Yeah. Most of them are friends of Luke’s, but I got along with all of them. In fact we are planning on making it a regular thing.” Chase said kissing the top of her head.

“That’s great. I liked having all the people in the house. This house seems more alive when there are lots of people here talking and laughing.” Callie told him.

“I agree. It seems like you had a good time with the girls.” Chase said rubbing her belly gently.

“I did. It made the time go by faster. I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done for me.” Callie said kissing his chest.

“I would do absolutely anything for you. I love you more than anything Callie girl.” Chase pulled her in closer.

“I know. I love you too Chase.” Callie said looking up at him.

“Let’s get some sleep Callie. It will be another long day of being in the bed tomorrow.” Chase said kissing her lips.

“That is not funny Chase.” Callie said pulling back and giving him the evil eye.

“I know but it’s for the little ones.” Chase reminded her.

“That is the only reason I’m willing to do it.” Callie told him sighing.

“I know, sleep love.” Chase told her as he pulled the blankets up over them.

“Night Chase. I love you.” Callie replied.

Callie felt like the luckiest girl in the world. She had the best man a girl could ask for, and friends anyone would be lucky to have. Callie knew it would be tough for a couple months, but then she would have two healthy beauti
ful babies. Babies she had made with Chase. As she feel asleep she was sure her life would be full of love and joy and laughter, she just hoped her friends could be as happy as her one day. It’s true, a person in love wants everyone around them to experience the happiness and joy true love brings you.
