Trent did as he had to. He had to keep her safe and warm, even if it was going to be pure torture for him all night. He wasn’t going to sleep, but at least Sienna would be warm.

  Chapter Nine

She didn’t know what she’d been thinking, but her mind was quickly pulled to the hard body next to hers. Trent was stiff in the way he was holding his body, as well as other parts of him that were pressed up against her.

He acted like he was asleep, but his breath wasn’t very even, and when she pushed back against him, Sienna could hear the gasp come from him. He was certainly not asleep by any account, and his body was more alert than she was prepared to deal with.

Sienna was finding it hard to get comfortable, and that was partly because Trent was holding back so much. He didn't want to let her know how needy he was, but she already knew. It was impossible to hide. Sienna could tell that he had his hips pulled back so that there wouldn't be any contact, but she made sure that it was the case anyway. She wasn't going to let him get off that easy.

The ground underneath her was hard, and she kept moving around, trying to get comfortable. In the course of doing that, she rubbed herself against him several times, and the groaning behind her got louder.

Finally, she could tell that he was frustrated and that brought a smile to her face. Sienna was feeling a lot of things all at the same time, and a big part of her was feeling frisky. She didn't know why, and even though she wanted Trent to do things to her, there wasn't a valid reason. At the moment, she just wanted him.

“You have got to stop moving, Sienna. You're killing me.”

“I am just really uncomfortable. I don't have a pillow. Can I use you like a pillow?”

Trent hesitated, and she was already getting up looking back at him. Her eyes were pleading with him, and finally, he relented. She saw the moment in his face when he did, and she smiled back at him.

“Let me use your chest too. It is so uncomfortable. If you want me to stop moving, then you're going to have to help me.”

He did not want to. She could see it on his face. He was treating her like the plague almost, and she would have been offended if she hadn't seen the need in his eyes. He could pretend all he wanted, but she knew the truth. He wanted her, and Sienna was convinced that she needed to use it to her advantage.

  “Please?”

“You are going to be the death of me; you know that?”

Though he was still nervous about it, Sienna knew that she was going to get her way, and she smiled. He was rather dashing when he was frustrated, and she especially liked the reason that he was frustrated.

Trent pulled her into his arms so that she could get comfortable on his chest. His arm finally closed in around her and Sienna was filled with the smell of him and the heat that was emanating off of him. She had not been cold for some time. Everywhere that their bodies touched, it felt like it was burning her.

Sienna moved a couple of times to get comfortable and he growled at her.

“The only reason I agreed to this is because you said that you'd stop moving around and go to sleep.”

“I am trying, Trent. I have never laid with a guy like this, that I didn't even know. Or even that I knew.”

“Wait a little bit of time, because you're going to do that very soon.” When she married his brother.

Sienna groaned into the darkness. His brother was the last thing that she wanted to think about. She didn't want to think about how her life was going to change so drastically in such a short amount of time. Sienna wanted to forget for a little bit longer. Pretend that it wasn't going to happen.

“You don't have to keep reminding me, you know. I know what I have to do.”

  “Just so you know.”

Sienna finally went to sleep, but it felt like it took forever. By the time she woke up the next morning, it was midday.

“It doesn't look like it's daytime out, does it? Why is it so dark still?”

“No, not really. That storm is still brewing.”

“So, what are we going to do?”

“I guess we're going to have to walk back on foot. It won’t be too far until we can pick up a car.”

“Why don't we just stay here until it lets up? Then you can take me home in just a few minutes. It's not like they’re going to be able to find me anyway. What would one more day hurt?”

Sienna was only thinking about the immediate future. She wanted to stay as far away from home as possible. If she was going to have to marry Darius in the end, she at least wanted to pretend for a little bit longer that she had a choice.

Sienna wanted to believe that she could make her own choices in her life, even as she knew better than that. Really, the only thing that was going to be her choice was how she accepted it all. It was going to happen one way or another, and the only thing that Sienna was going to be able to control was her reaction to it. But they didn't mean that she didn't want to push it back as long as possible.

“I don't think that would be a good idea. They are probably pretty worried about you.”

“We both know that's not true, Trent. They're worried about me getting married for their own reasons. It has nothing to do with me, and you know that.”

  “It would not look good.”

“What, if we're together for that long?”

  “Yes.”

Sienna wondered what was going through his mind, and when she looked up at his face, there was nothing to tell her. He was very good at hiding his emotions, almost like he didn't have any at all. Sienna wasn't sure if that was true or not, though sometimes he had her convinced of it. She was holding on to the fact that he had let Carl live. She was hoping he would show mercy again, for her.

“Do you really want to walk thirty miles in the rain?”

“Not particularly. I would have rather gone back last night, but the rain never let up.”

“So why can't you just wait another day? Would it really be that bad?”

Trent looked around the cave and shrugged. “This isn't the best place to hole up for a storm, you know. We don’t have any more food...”

“I have some more. Plenty of days’ worth. Can we please stay here, just a little bit longer?”

  Chapter Ten

Trent knew that he should tell her no. There were no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It was a bad idea all the way around. The last thing he needed to do, was stay around Sienna any longer than he had to. She was bad news, in more ways than one.

But at the same time, it was almost impossible to disagree with her. Her green eyes somehow got an even bigger, and she looked pitiful. How could he tell her no? Even as he thought that, Trent was thinking in the back of his mind that Darius may have met his match. He wasn't going to be able to tell her no either. She would run him and any other man that she put her mind to.

“Fine. For just one more day. And if it starts getting better outside before dark, then we’re going to leave. Deal?”

There was a moment when he didn't think she was going to agree. Maybe it was the idea that she would have to leave that kept her from nodding her head, but finally, she did anyway.

“I just need one more day. You know, to collect myself.”

“It's going to be pretty boring, Sienna. What is there to do?”

Her eyes flared for a moment and that was the last thing that Trent needed to see, and he was already regretting the offer put on the table. He shouldn't have.

“I am sure that we can find something that isn’t too offensive to you.”

She smiled his way, and Trent had to look away. He was enchanted, and that wasn’t doing anything good for him. He was still clear on what had to be done. Trent also hadn’t thought clearly about what was going to happen if they spent another day away from her house: he was going to have to spend another night with her, alone in the cave.

The night before had bothered him more than he was able to really explain. It was hard to feel her body pressed up against his for warmth and not being able to do a
nything about it. There had been a very short amount of time when he’d fallen asleep, and he’d awoken with his manhood slid between her thighs. It would have taken nothing for him to slide inside of her. All it would have taken was a tilt of his hips for it to all go as planned.

It was that thought alone that made him stay up the rest of the night. He had slipped himself from in between her legs so that Sienna wouldn’t wake up and freak out, but it didn’t do all that much good. He was far too involved in that moment and the idea of lying next to her again wasn’t something that he wanted to think about.

“I don’t know if you’re thinking the same way as I am. You’re getting married soon, to my brother.”

“Stop reminding me of that. I know. Why do you think I left?”

Trent knew that he was saying it for his own sake far more than she was worried about it. He knew that there was something sinister in Sienna’s mind, something that was going to screw everything up, and he was smart enough that he wasn’t going to be pulled in. He couldn’t. He had to make sure that they were on the same level. He couldn’t bring Sienna back to his brother damaged and tainted by his own desires.

“Why don’t you lay down for a while and I will be there soon?”

It was getting late, and Trent wanted her to go to sleep first so that he wouldn’t have to deal with her on him and rubbing up against him all night. Trent wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to do it. Not again. Not if he wasn’t supposed to touch her. That is all he wanted to do the night before.

“You’re not going to lay down with me?”

He shook his head and said that he wasn’t going to. There was nothing good that was going to come of that. Trent knew that for sure and he was avoiding her again.

“I will in a little bit. I’m not tired yet.”

“Well, I will stay up with you.”

“No, no, I insist. You have a big day ahead of you.”

Trent knew that she didn’t want to talk about any of it and he was going to do his best not to worry about it too much. It was more than he was about to get into with her. She was bad news, and staying away from Sienna was the only proper action.

“You are afraid of me, aren’t you?”

“Why would I be afraid of you? You’re a human, and hardly powerful.”

She snickered at his answer. “You don’t sound so sure of yourself, and I’m not human.”

“Well, you’re not a shifter either.”

“That’s true; I can’t shift. But in other ways, I am powerful. I can hear your thoughts sometimes. I can feel the change in your heart when I get close to you. These are all extra things that a regular human wouldn’t know.”

“Considering how hard I was last night; I don’t think you needed any special powers to tell.”

Another snicker. “I suppose you’re right. So why are you running away, when we both know that all you want to do is lay down with me and make me scream your name a few dozen times?”

He shivered from her words like the temperature had dropped in the cave. He even looked towards the fire to make sure that it was still burning.

“Just because that’s what I want to do doesn’t mean that I should do it. You’re my brother’s. Not mine.”

“I could be yours, Trent. Why do you have to make it more complicated than it needs to be?”

She was now standing in front of him, her head tilted up to look at him. He was much taller than her, and it was almost preposterous that he would be afraid of her. It certainly didn’t look like he should be.

“Why do you want me so badly? You say you don’t want to marry Darius because he’s a stranger, yet so am I. Why not just put all of this energy towards the man who is going to be your husband soon?”

It was the only thing he could do, to make himself think of something else. He had to keep reminding himself that she’s was Darius’ before he got something crazy in his head, like he could have her too.

“First, because you let Carl go. I know that most everyone else that was sent after me would have killed him on the spot. I know how they are and what they think of humans.”

That wasn’t quite the answer that he was thinking of. Trent had been sure that she was just getting into his head so that he would let her go. Sienna was throwing herself at him, and it was all because she wanted to run away. She wanted him to look the other way. Her answer did not fit into that at all.

  “Because I saved your lover?”

“He isn’t my lover. I’m pretty sure we already went over that.”

They had, but he was still skeptical of Carl’s place in it all. Why would she have been with him if they weren’t together like that?

“Well, whoever he is, he wasn’t guilty of anything. You roped him into this, knowing the danger that you were putting him in. It didn’t seem fair.”

She made a loud sighing sound, and Trent could imagine that she was upset with him about one thing or another.

  “What?”

“You are something else. I’m practically throwing myself at you, and you’re sitting there, telling me how I dragged him into this.”

She sounded exasperated, and Trent could feel himself moving closer.

“This is you throwing yourself at me?”

Sienna agreed. “I’m not very good at this, but I would have thought that you knew what I wanted.”

He did. He really did, but Trent was fighting the feeling with everything inside of him. He knew what would happen if he let things go too far.

  “We can’t.”

“I can’t have one little kiss?”

She was so close, and the words were echoing in his ears when she moved to her tiptoes to brush her lips against his tentatively.

“Do you really not want this?”

Trent wanted to tell her no, he really did. He wanted to push her back and remind them both who she was about to marry.

  But he couldn’t.

Instead, he pulled her closer, and his lips devoured hers. Trent was going to have to show her that she didn’t even understand what she was asking for. Trent wasn’t Carl. He wasn’t going to be ‘friends’ with her. He was going to take her, shape her, and change her forever.

Sienna was caught off-guard, not prepared for the onslaught. She whimpered when he pulled her closer. Trent took the sound as her submission, and it only drove him closer to the edge of not caring.

  Chapter Eleven

He had taken over her body and mind in seconds. She was on the cold ground before she knew what was happening. As much as she’d tried to keep it all together, she wasn’t able to. Sienna was writhing underneath him, as his hands and mouth moved to please her. He knew exactly where to touch and the nips on her chest as he moved lower really caught her attention.

“And this is what you want, huh?”

Sienna could hear anger, or something like it, in his tone. She didn’t know how to answer him. She certainly liked what was going on at the moment. It was all too much, but she didn’t want him to stop.

Her shirt was pulled up, and his mouth latched onto her hardened tips. Her eyes closed, and Sienna could no longer see what Trent was going to do next. She was scooching towards the hand that went between her legs, and she jerked when he rubbed her gently.

  “You’re ready.”

That was all that he said before he moved off of her. Sienna was getting used to the feel of him, and she was startled when he was gone. She wanted him so badly, but it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. She wanted only to feel his touch and the lack of it was almost physically painful.

Then he was pulling her panties down and pressing up against her. It happened so fast that she had no time to prepare and Sienna let out a scream as he pushed in. She had been thinking that one thing was going to happen. She thought she’d have time, but now her eyes were clamped shut, and Sienna was trying to figure out what she was supposed to do now. She’d heard of what was next, but they were both in shock.

  “You didn’t say.”

&
nbsp; “You didn’t ask.”

  “I didn’t know.”

Sienna didn’t want to talk about it. The sharp pain in the beginning was gone, and before she could think straight, he was going to have to start doing something. She felt full, but also unsettled, like there was something going on that she was missing out on. He was supposed to do something more.

When he was still staring down at her and hadn’t done what she wanted yet, all she could do then was start moving herself. She could feel the different parts of her that were becoming filled with need, and she tried her best to hold herself together. She couldn’t. It was impossible to with all of the feelings flowing through her.

  “I didn’t know.”

“Are you going to keep saying that all night?”

Sienna needed him to give her what it was that she wanted. He just didn’t seem to understand that she was losing herself and if he didn’t do something quickly, she was going to explode. It was just that simple. Her insides throbbed and Sienna just wanted more.

“Yes, you’re my first, Trent. Is this it?”

Trent shook his head. “No, much more to come. I just…”

Sienna stopped him because if he said that he didn’t know again, she was going to end it right then and there.

He pulled back and surged inside of her, much like he had started it all with. Sienna’s eyes closed again, and she held onto him as he started a mind-numbing rhythm. It wasn’t at all what she thought it would be. Sienna had put it off for so long, she wondered if it would feel this way with anyone else. She had a feeling that what was going on between them was exclusive to only them.

She clung to his neck and called out his name as she felt wave upon wave flow over her. Sienna was holding on for dear life, like if she let go, then she was going to be lost in some sort of abyss.

“I can’t hold back much longer.”

Sienna had no idea what it meant. All she knew for certain was she felt better than she ever had, any other day in her life. No words came forth, just her nails biting into his shoulders in response. She hadn’t been able to hold back since they started.
